Following their release of »Litha«, Mister Earthbound present their newest 3-song seasonal release, »Mabon«. Featuring gloomy instrumentation, melancholic harmonies, and driving percussion, »Mabon« is a heavy, bluesy, psychedelic exploration of the autumnal. For fans of Danzig, QOTSA, Alice In Chains.

With the lush, warm sounds of »Ostara« (Spring) and firey blues of »Litha« (Summer) behind them, Mister Earthbound slow things down to a sinister, smoldering burn on »Mabon«.

»Mabon« is the third in an ambitious new series of EPs in 2026. Each is set to launch on a seasonal solstice or equinox, with the bound collection being released as Mister Earthbound’s sophomore full-length, »Endless Man«.

The brainchild of guitarist Walter Gray, Mister Earthbound originally emerged after its founder returned to his hometown of Richmond, Virginia in 2016 armed with a pocket full of riffs and a drive to hit the road with a new project. Named as a homage to Napoleon Hill’s book »Outwit The Devil«, the quartet rapidly established themselves in their region and beyond as pioneers of a new breed of swamp rock, and have been captivating a diverse and growing fanbase ever since.

Building on the foundations laid by influences from the trippy tones of the 13th Floor Elevators and the raucous early days of Pentagram to the eerie blues of Robert Johnson with a psychedelic, doom-tinged approach, Mister Earthbound’s signature blend of searing riffs, haunting vocals, and driving rhythms transports audiences to the depths of the swamp both through their studio recordings and their electric live shows alongside sonic titans like Dead Meadow, Kadavar, Weedeater, YOB, and Black Mountain.

With a host of achievements already under their belt, including the release of their debut record »Shadow Work« via Kozmik Artifactz and a feature in Embassy Skateboards’ »Winter Warriors«, Mister Earthbound’s momentum is at an all-time high as they dive into their biggest undertaking yet with the »Endless Man« series of EPs.

Boston Prog Metallers Momentary Masters releasing new single "Body Tells" September 25th

Out this Friday, September 25th, prog metallers Momentary Masters will release their newest single "Body Tells" from the forthcoming album "Rheospect". Heavy, crunching riffs, ethereal vocals, and winding grooves are the name of the game for this crusher of a track.

Momentary Masters is a four piece Boston-based prog-lite rock band. Subtly weaving prog moves into a digestable, heavy riff-driven format, they are looking to share prog sensibility with the greater rock community throughout New England and beyond.

Their debut album, Rheospect, is a love letter to the album format as a narrative arc. In spirit it tells the story of the creative process from inception (“Prospect”), through the flow state of creation (“Rheospect”), and eventually to letting the product go (“Retrospect”).

Laid out in a palindromic structure, Rheospect plays straight through the roughly 70 minute run time and features big riffs, soaring choruses, dynamic instrumental shifts, and thematic easter eggs.

The band plans to support the record live in the Fall in the greater Boston area and is looking forward to digging into their sophomore record.

Over the years of playing these songs live, and with the addition of Kenny on bass, these songs have changed so much that we felt it was only right to re-record and re-release them in their final form. Review

Garage/Scuzz/Stoner Rockers LáGoon return with their latest album Forget What You Heard which sees the band performing in loud and highly unapologetic fashion. The whole record feels like LáGoon have finally found their true calling in the Stoner Rock scene with their blend of Punk, Fuzz, Garage Rock, Psych, Doom and Scuzzy melodies. This is their most confident and highly entertaining record to date with some epic nods of FU MANCHU riff loving amplified worship but with LáGoon’s own great style of music still being heard.

These tracks have been released and recorded differently over the years but these are perhaps the most definitive edition of the tracks and how they're meant to sound. This is the perfect starting point for newcomers to become a fan of this great band.

Opening track Kill The Messenger has some spiky demented lyrics and pure distorted mayhem developing within the music. It’s very stripped back and has a classic Nineties Stoner Rock attitude which becomes one of the best themes from the album. There’s some Punk Rock sounds being played at an relentless fast pace which has been a staple of LáGoon’s music from the very start. It’s a great way to open the album with.

Second track You Tried (We Lied)  has a sublime MELVINS based energy with LáGoon approaching that FUZZY / Scuzz Punk attitude once more. There’s some influences from the likes of Dinosaur Jr and The Ramones emerging from the Punk Rock wastelands but it’s the screeching psychedelics and stripped back Garage Rock mechanics that makes the song work so superbly well.

Third track Draculove is a Doom Punk offering with LáGoon having some fun with the whole Proto-Metal theme of the track. It’s quite a bouncy little number with a subtle manic energy and playful lyrics that plays right into the classic “DRACULA” folklore. Maybe a bit too “radio friendly” at times but it’s refreshingly hip and quite clever with the simply played melodies that brings a huge amount of fun to the album.

The next two tracks Father Of Death and Wheel Bite sees LáGoon return to the playful surroundings of the opening tracks with a certain Sludgier environment developing with some socially aware lyrics. This is LáGoon being socially aware and having some gloomy fun at the same time especially on Father Of Death. The music has a turbo-charged appearance that’s primed to explode on musical impact. The lo-fi surroundings allows the songs to breath organically especially on Wheel Bite.

One of the main strengths about LáGoon and this album in general is how the band don’t give a fuck about Progressive themes at all. This is Stoner Rock music played in it’s purest form where the main mission is JUST TO GET SHIT DONE and leave you superbly entertained which they achieve with flying colours within the excellent two final two tracks Shake Fast, Play Loud and Smoke And Flesh.

The songs allows LáGoon to close the album playing snarling Punk Rock grooves that are almost quite anthemic with that seedy and dirty Psychedelic attitude playing some of the best music on the album. 

Forget What You Heard is another great record from LáGoon who are fastly becoming one of the standout Stoner Rock acts from the infamous Portland underground Heavy Rock scene.

Review

You’re Not Yourself Lately is the debut album from Ambient/Post-Metal collective Rapidly Aging who brings a dense and progressive style to the Post-Metal world as Shalor Howell (the creative mastermind behind the project) explores a slow style of music that allows other areas of Post-Rock. Shoegaze and Sludge Metal to fully form. Rapidly Aging takes their time in building highly melodic Post-Rock structures that are firm and hold steady one moment before a towering force of Atmospheric Sludge destroys everything for a heavier style of ritualistic passage to form.

You can hear influences from the likes of Pelican, Neurosis, OM, Pink Floyd, Earth and Russian Circles which shows you the type of musical surroundings that Rapidly Aging aims for. The whole thing does take time to fully get moving along but it’s a deeply reflective journey that allows the Ambient and Post-Rock sounds to appear within the haunting opening tracks of Distant Sirens Wailing and Fleeting Moment. I would consider these tracks the most straightforward songs on the whole album as Shalor Howell moves along into some unexpected themes of music for the stunning third track The Negative Thought Loops. 

The Negative Thought Loops combines Post-Metal aesthetics with a gloomy Americana, Gothic and Southern Folk sound which is held together by a commanding Post-Metal presence. The instrumental passages are heavy for the most part but Rapidly Aging then aims for a subtle Alt Rock and Experimental based flow. The whole thing tries to strive for pure Post-Metal heaviness but settles for a great style of Post-Rock and Post-Doom aggression. Parts Neurosis and Pink Floyd combine for a sound that’s perhaps one of the most reflective moments on the whole album.

Fourth track Awoken From A Bad Dream To An Even Worse Reality never shies away from playing a monumental style of precise progressive melodies that have a certain Pelican (Australasia) vibe to them. The free-flowing “cinematic” journey of the track brings a low-key Psych Metal aspect into the mix. The song is equally spaced out and fuelled by tranquil Post-Rock themes that feel cautiously optimistic but quite content to remain in the darkness at the same time.

The level of music experimentation is excellent with some deft classical rock and jazzy scores starting to make themselves known on the second half of the album. All of the vocal samples that provide the main storyline for the album are taken from the classic 1974 French film “The Man Who Sleeps” with this album acting as the unofficial soundtrack. I haven’t seen the film but the samples used are magnificent where they are matched up to the music amazingly well especially within the Ambient sections of the whole record.

The final three tracks of the album allows Rapidly Aging to fully explore the heaviest and progressive moments on the album whilst keeping to a slight Orchestral delivery mostly on How Quickly The Ground Falls Out Beneath You and To Keep From. There’s a determined energy to how the music is delivered with intense Progressive musical beats becoming thicker and denser that allows the album to reach it’s emotionally charged conclusion.

You’re Not Yourself Lately is not an easy album to listen to but it’s the overall journey that Rapidly Aging takes you upon that’s the real highlight. For an instrumental record, Rapidly Aging have crafted a dark and mysterious record that offers no easy answers but you can’y deny how brilliantly powerful the record is when everything is said and done….

Review

Vulture Neck’s debut self-titled album continues with the rebellious Power-Trio attitude they brought on their acclaimed 2023 debut EP but on a more grander scale as they have more time to play with. This allows Vulture Neck to create heavier levels of sludgy surroundings which sees a Stoner Rock attitude develop with areas of Doom, Sludge, Psych sounds to converge on a mountain top of classic hard rock themes. 

The sound is quite raw sounding with a distinctive Garage Rock / Proto-metal attitude forming within the opening tracks of Host and Rat Riders which sees Vulture Neck bring a determined focus into their music. There are small elements of modern day Swedish Sludge/Stoner Metal forming that remind me of the likes of Dozer, Cities Of Mars and Firebreather. The sludgy sounds become quire progressive with Vulture Neck adding a gloomy atmosphere behind the scenes. 

The vocals are not the most refined but they perfectly match the music that Vulture Neck stunningly creates throughout the record. Shades of Doom & Gloom become more commonplace within the album as Vulture Neck bring an end of the world scenario into their music. The lyrics are quite bleak and get straight to the point on tracks such as Rat Riders, Phantom Carriage, “Raining Fire, Raining Stones” and Bright Lights Descending. 

There’s also some great melodic parts of the record which you only begin to notice on repeated listens with Vulture Neck applying some great musical mechanics within both the “HEAVIER” and “QUIETER” aspects of the album. The warped atmospherics constantly moves to the greyer areas of Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal but Vulture Neck always allow themselves and the listener to have some brief uplifting musical passages which allows the record to be transformed into a wicked Classic Hard Rock sound that remind me of Black Sabbath and Budgie at times. 

Vulture Neck always tries something different with each track and for the most part everything comes off superbly well with the record not afraid to take huge risks that allows the album to be refreshingly different and slightly offbeat at the same time. The instrumental parts are epic and superbly cinematic when they’re fully required to but Vulture Neck always have the balls to apply logical Proto-Metal decisions to disrupt the musical flow which leads to some of the most exciting sounds of the album to fully emerge.

One of the main standouts of the album is the Progressive attitude that Vulture Neck apply to their music that shows shades of the legendary RUSH in places and even Mastodon when the band fully transforms into Progressive Sludge Metal monsters. There’s something for everyone to seek out and fully explore with this excellent recorded and produced album. Vulture Neck delivers the goods with a great supply of grounded melodies and hard hitting grooves that will leave you mightily impressed from start to finish.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

So Forget What You Heard in the past, this is how LáGoon really sounds.

LáGoon is a heavy riffing trio from Portland, Oregon that blends elements of punk, garage rock, doom, and stoner rock. They have released a large catalog of music, but are best known for their high energy shows.

The band has toured extensively and played with a number of notable bands including Nebula, Matt Pike vs the Automaton, Duel, Wo Fat, Mos Generator, and Sasquatch to name a few.

Doomed and Stoned best describes the band as “…an odd duck, with the head of The Stooges, the fuzzed up body of Dead Moon, the feet of The Gun Club, the soul of Electric Wizard and the guts of Nirvana”.

As always, the band's next plans include playing live as much as possible. They're also already working on new music for LáGoon and their other garagegaze project, OOPSY DAZEY.

Review

Doom/Stoner Metallers Rust Lords bring a Hardcore Punk flavour to their latest EP - Suffer Eternal. There’s even a healthy dose of Crossover Thrash that gives Rust Lords a vibrant and seedy energy with their blend of lo-fi heavy grooves. The EP is superbly aggressive from the start with the Hardcore Punk vocals from Kyle Roy which has a classic Crossover influence running throughout. The music itself is superbly technical when the fast-paced melodies appear on different sections of the record.

Rust Lords like to play around with the rules and conventions of the Hard Rock and Heavy Metal scenes they closely align themselves to. As the music goes through many different transformations which gives Suffer Eternal quite a highly original approach with that great Hardcore Punk and Doom Metal sound that reminds me of Saint Vitus and Corrosion Of Conformity on tracks such as Louis, Bubba, Jack and Adrian. 

The EP lasts for around twenty minutes but Rust Lords employ a great style of Doom Metal and Stoner Metal that manages to be quite playful and superbly hard-hitting along the way. When the band find their Psychedelic swagger, the EP becomes very trippy and self aware with a delicious level of FUZZ METAL that really makes the record really standout. You start to notice the fast-paced riffs even more with some fast-paced Thrash Metal beats that should appeal to fans of Motorhead and High On Fire with some great riff-centric passages moving into areas of Distorted based heaviness.

Suffer Eternal could have easily done with another song as everything suddenly ends once Rust Lords are fully in their musical element but the guys show a lot of promise here which should allow them to build a loyal following within the underground scene. Check this superb EP when you have the time and be prepared for a highly unapologetic style of aggressive Doom/Stoner Metal that takes no prisoners when everything is said and done.

Neurogeneisis is the debut EP from Progressive Sludge Metallers Heathen Tongues who add a Crust Punk attitude amongst the Grunge, Doom, Post-Metal and Stoner Metal surroundings which changes aggressive attitude throughout the short eleven minutes runtime of the EP. The band have the legendary talents of Brad Boatright on mastering duties and Matt Bayles on mixing duties who have perhaps both help to build and shape the modern day Sludge/Post-Metal scene over the last twenty five years.

This serves Heathen Tongues brilliantly well who forge close sonic alliances to the likes of Pelican, YOB, SLEEP and Red Fang. The EP is purely instrumental with both tracks of Revelation and Firefight having a wide assortment of Crust Punk and Post-Metal grooves with that biting Progressive Sludge Metal environment bringing surprising elements of Psych, Grunge and Stoner Rock into the foray. 

Each song has a great metallic narrative which allows this hugely talented two piece sound like a bigger band with more members than the core duo of Devin Mendoza (Guitar) and Shane Falkenhart (Drums). The gloomy use of the speech from the classic Charlie Chaplin film The Dictator gives a harsh and unsettling reality which comes mostly into focus on Firelight. 

Neurogenesis is one of the strongest debut EP’s I’ve heard in quite some time with Heathen Tongues having some great things to say and without the use of vocals makes it even more emotionally powerful. If you’re here for the grooves and bleak melodies then Heathen Tongues have you covered but only for eleven minutes but it does keep you wanting to hear more and that’ only a good thing.

Heathen Tongues will be releasing their debut album in February 2027 in which both of these tracks will appear and I can’t wait to hear the complete narrative of what they form. As these guys have real potential to release something special and definitely a band to really look out for next year.

Review

Instrumental Doom/Post-Metal collective Observers return with their second album The Emerald which continues the great work laid down on their acclaimed debut album The Age Of The Machine Entities. The record is an effortless blend of Doom, Post-Metal, Heavy Metal, Prog Metal, Ambient Metal and Stoner Metal for a journey that has complex cinematic quality throughout. Observers channel “Video Game” narrative for this record but allow the true Heavy Metal dynamics to do their thing with surreal moments of intense Post-Metal quality.

The whole sound aligns more closely to a grounded level compared to the COSMIC surroundings of their debut album. The music is more frantic and action packed with Observers delving into a frenzied style Prog Metal with an intense Heavy Metal presence emerging from the stunning opening tracks of The Emerald, The Eye Tree and Forest Of Doom. Sometimes the mood can be too flashy but it works for the overall story of the album.

The instrumental work is dominated by a great “DOOM & GLOOM” atmosphere with flashes of Ambient Metal allowing Observers to bring in other areas of the ROCK/METAL spectrum. Adding small pockets of Folk Rock and Post-Rock gives a more emotional sound especially within the haunting third track of Forest Of Doom that has elements of OPETH and Animal As Leaders transforming the Post-Metal energy quite suddenly.

The Emerald relies heavily on synths and dramatic soundscapes which expertly builds up the tension but also allows the record to breathe and grow naturally for the story to move onto its highly dramatic conclusion. Observers hit upon every corner of the Doom, Post-Rock and Post-Metal landscape throughout the album with gloomy passages having a deeply emotional core when moving the different time frames of Eighties Heavy Metal and modern day instrumental music.

Other standout tracks on the album to check out are: Asterophora, Predestination, Boreal World and Voices Within which contain the heaviest, gloomiest and epic guitar shredding moments on the entire record.  

Observers have released another standout collection of tracks that does something wholly original and superbly cinematic with the Instrumental Doom Metal scene.

Exclusive Album Premiere Of Doom Metallers OBSERVERS New Album THE EMERALD

The Emerald is the second album from Martin Kennedy's instrumental metal project, Observers. The Emerald's instrumental post-metal was inspired by the primeval forests and hidden portals of the cover art by visionary art pioneer Gilbert Williams, one of Kennedy's favourite artists. Once again mixed by Joe Haley of Australia's Psycroptic, the album is equal parts crushing guitars and atmospheric soundscapes, reminiscent of Kennedy's ambient rock project All India Radio.

Observers' debut earned widespread acclaim, including selection on NPR's New Music Friday, a Wild One pick on ABC TV's Rage, and praise from critics around the world. Prog magazine hailed it as a "glorious instrumental reimagining of 2001: A Space Odyssey," while Distorted Sound called it "a sprawling space-metal epic." Steve Kilbey of The Church simply declared it "sounds brilliant," and Sea of Tranquility "Spacey and doomy" 3 stars.
