What a mad trip the three of them throw in here. The very first song almost bursts the duration of a long-playing record. Meandering nicely trippy through the musical swamp rock landscape of the 60s & 70s, Mouth scrape along all the genres you can roam with a classic rock band - prog, rock, space, garage, jazz or krautrock - this is all formed into a coherent, stomping mass on "Getaway".

Previous albums "Rhizome" (2009/2020) , "Vortex" (2017), "Floating" (2018), "Live'71" (2018), "Past-Present-Future" (2019)) were all highly acclaimed works and MOUTH's well matured album "Getaway" will also pick up similar critical acclaim.

US doom metal giants ACID KING announce more shows for their upcoming European summer tour + North and South American shows!

San Francisco-based psychedelic doom legends ACID KING have confirmed to play Europe extensively this summer, as well as live shows in the United States, Brazil, Chile and Argentina. Their new album "Beyond Vision" is available now on Blues Funeral Recordings.

Released this March as part of Blues Funeral Recordings' special PostWax series, ACID KING's new album "Beyond Vision" sees the band venturing into an epic sci-fi-inspired journey — the result of a special collaboration between Acid King founder, guitarist and vocalist Lori S., guitarist and vocalist Jason Landrian (Black Cobra), bassist and keyboardist Bryce Shelton (Hawkwind) and drummer Jason Willer (Charger, Jello Biafra) — described as "a largely instrumental mushroom cloud of sound and hallucination" by Decibel Magazine and "an otherworldly journey" by PopMatters.

Breaking a new record in the international heavy scene by reaching #96 on the Billboard Hot 100, ACID KING is now ready to take over both the old and new continents to share their thundering, swinging and trip-inducing heavy psychedelia with the masses.

The band announced special sets in San Francisco and Southern California and will perform "Beyond Vision" in its entirety with guitarist and vocalist Jason Landrian as a special guest. All other shows will be performed as a three-piece with a lineup of Lori S. on guitar and vocals, Bryce Shelton on bass and Jason Willer on drums.

Supercluster is the debut album from Industrial Metal/Noise/Psych Rockers JAAW and they can be classed as a supergroup of sorts. JAAW features Andy Cairns (Therapy), Jason Stoll (Mugstar), Wayne Adams (Death Pedals) and Adam Betts (Trapped Tigers, Squarepusher) within their ranks. The band are primarily influenced by bands such as Godflesh and Ministry but play a variety of different hooks, grooves, sounds and heavy riffs. Throw in elements of aggressive Sludge Rock, Doom Metal and Stoner Rock then JAAW are a different kind of Industrial Metal band.

Opening song Thoughts And Prayers (Mean Nothing) isn't the strongest track on the album but it's powerfully addictive with its blend of aggressive and fast paced Noise Rock and Industrial sounding Techno beats. Reminding me of The Mad Capsule Markets in places. The song picks up towards the middle when JAAW play a warped style of Psych Rock with AMPLIFIER DISTORTION creeping in. Andy's vocals are prominent as ever and he feels energetic and essential from his early days with Therapy.

Second song Reality Crash is where JAAW quickly find their Creative groove and start impressing with their Riff Based and Anthemic Rock. Psychedelic Noises and Glitches work surprisingly well with a more DOOM orientated effort with a track reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails and perhaps from their WITH TEETH era. The heavy Industrial themes are given a more GLOOMY makeover with JAAW bringing a mechanical sense to the Doom Metal genre this track can easily fit into. JAAW experiment more with their Industrial beats and this leads to sublime extended Noise Rock based jams. The vocals are chaotic, measured and fully assured from start to finish.

Third song Rot has been receiving plenty of positive feedback lately and it's not hard to see why. As JAAW bring a sense of bleak dystopia that merges into heavier areas of Sludge/Stoner Rock with the premise still being one of Industrial Metal and Nightmarish beats. The vocals are more chilling in places but the subtle Psychedelic moments allows JAAW to bring a refreshing blend of Noise Rock fused Industrial Metal to the album. The lyrics have a real life quality to them which allows the song to be more DOOM based than you would initially expect. However, it's the SONIC experimentation that JAAW use for this track allow this to be one of the standout tracks on the album.

Fourth song Total Protonic Reversal goes further down the Industrial Metal Rabbit Hole with echoes of Mechanical Noises and Synths. Distorted guitars have a more Psychedelic Feel with the music allowing the vocals to be further in the background for the earlier parts of the track. JAAW return with a highly anthemic 90's Alt Rock/Metal approach to this track with the song being helped along by GLOOMY Sludgy Sounds which have an almost Post-Punk or Post-Metal energy to them. 

Fifth song Bring Home The Motherlode, Barry - is the most interesting track on the album. As JAAW play for almost nine minutes on this track. The creative themes once again float around the different genres JAAW adapt for this track. Sludge, Doom, Noise Rock, Psych Rock and a disturbing Stoner feel soon transcends into a dark style of Progressive music. This allows JAAW to further experiment with their sound yet again. Andy's vocals are heavily digitised in places but they're easy to understand with the band perhaps fuelled by Modern Day Paranoia yet again. This is my favourite track off the album as JAAW create their own blend of Sludge fuelled Industrial Rock/Metal with a mighty fine sideline in aggression and melody.

The final three tracks Hellbent On Happiness, The Dead Drop and Army Of Me (Yes, they've included a cover of the Bjork classic track) sees JAAW continue their dark journey into the Industrial Rock/Metal abyss with the focus equally spread across experimentation and playing sublime grooves that convey a more Post-Doom feeling especially on Hellbent On Happiness and The Dead Drop. Their cover of Bjork classic Army Of Me is a dark and inspiring take which is quite different from the original which you would expect from a first rate Psychedelic/Industrial Metal group such as JAAW.

Supercluster is an absolute marvel to listen to. The album is one of the darkest examples of Psych Metal and Industrial Metal I've heard in quite some time. However, JAAW impresses even further with their fresh style of unique sounding grooves and riffs which the album is full of. 

This allows Supercluster to be an Album Of The Year contender.

What is the name of your band?

Kapnas, which is the Greek word for smoker.

What is the genre of music that you play?

We play in a death doom/funeral doom style with a lot of melancholic overtones. We enjoy making aspects of the familiar uncomfortable

Can you give a brief history of the band of how it came together and where it is today?

Brustrella and I (Kapnathios) have known each other for almost 2 decades but we never jammed together. One day by chance we were in the same room with our instruments and it just clicked. We're very close friends and don't know why we had never done this before!

What can people expect from your music?

You can expect a heavy, moody and sometimes plodding mass of sound. We are trying to create something that slowly yet groovily takes you through an introspective journey about your own mortality.

What is the best release that folks should check out from your band?

Currently our self-titled debut album, which is coming out on June 30th everywhere.

Review

Cosmic Trigger is the new album from Doom/Stoner Metallers Bridge Farmers and this my first foray into the band's FUZZED and DOOMED OUT world. I thought these guys were a new entity but they've been going since 2006 and this is their third full length album. Bridge Farmers sounds fall between the Classic Doomed Out sounds of Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus and Electric Wizard. Though, they play elements of KrautRock, Shoegaze and Stoner Metal for their new album.

Cosmic Trigger is perhaps classified as Warped Psych Metal than full on Space Rock but there's traces of that as well. The music is quite progressive with Bridge Farmers playing a style of music embracing the dirty heavy classic tone of Electric Wizard and bleak seedy lyrical themes of Uncle Acid or even Church Of Misery at times. That's the impression I'm given when listening to the excellent opening song of Frater Achad. 

Frater Achad offers bombastic vocals and classic down-tuned FUZZ based heavy grooves with the Amplifier Feedback and Guitar Reverb delivery that Bridge Farmers use for the majority of the album. The sound is seedy and downright demonic in places but there's a modern Psych Stoner Metal flavour that gives way to a more StonerGaze or Doomgaze sound.

Second track Street Needles continues with that creative style but Bridge Farmers bring in a more warped style of Distorted Drone Metal to the mix. The grooves are more NOISE based with a CHAOTIC rhythm allowing the band to play a more surreal and disturbing blend of WEEDIAN and DOOMED OUT heaviness. The vocals become more threatening when the clean vocals change to a louder and aggressive style that has its roots in Hardcore Punk of modern day Doom Metal. With the swirling and manic Monster Magnet inspired guitar solos, Bridge Farmers easily offer the standout track on the album right here.

Up next is the two part combo of Temple Of Eris I and Temple Of Eris II. There's more sonic experimentation here with traces of Surf Rock and Space Rock before merging into a Noise Rock flavour on Temple Of Eris I. Screeching guitars and trippy Progressive sounds offer a darker style of 1970's based Psych Rock with subtle hints of Experimental Stoner Rock which build upto dark grooves that made me feel quite Paranoid in places but all done in the best possible way.

Temple Of Eris sounds like EARTHLESS coming down from a bad ACID TRIP with the hazy Psychedelic Instrumental Jams moving between the darker levels of Psych Rock, Doom Metal and Stoner Metal, The FUZZIER elements are what make this song with Bridge Farmers laying down their own wickedly entertaining sounds. Screeching guitars allow the band to play a more focused and surreal style of Acid Rock with that Doomgaze feeling being quite uncomfortable to hear at times. However, this remains another one of the album's standout tracks.

Fifth song Dark Star is a more direct, catchy and Sludge based offering with Bridge Farmers offering perhaps a Punk Rock aesthetic to the mix. The song is quite violent to hear especially with the vocals and the almost Speed Metal delivery the band use for this song. The gloomy FUZZ sounds expands into a Psychedelic and Aggressive style that can be quite messy to hear at times. However, there's still demented and wicked fun to be had with this track.

The final song Lynx follows the same creative and doomed out path of Street Needles but with a more Progressive feeling. As this track runs past the twelve minutes mark. The sound is quite BLUES based in places and Bridge Farmers take their time bringing the HEAVIEST moments we now expect from them. This part of the album is perhaps more reflective, melodic and less adventurous. Well, for the first half of the track. As Bridge Farmers have a more relaxing "Post-Stoner" attitude even with the heavy moments of Psychedelic Fuzzed Up beats the track ultimately holds. Everything becomes more daring within the second half with Bridge Farmers playing the heaviest and dirtiest grooves on the album that allows the album to finish in wholly exciting fashion.

Cosmic Trigger offers a refreshing change of style and direction for a Psychedelic Doom/Stoner Metal album such as this. The band could have easily lost control with the many different sounds they've used to make this album with. However, Bridge Farmers have released an album that is full of sublime Doomedelic Fuzzed Up WEEDIAN Grooves that you'll find very hard to beat. The album also offers a refreshing and daring style of music that perfectly bridges the gap between the Classic and Modern day Doom/Stoner Metal scenes.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Doom/Sludge Metallers Leafblower debut self-titled release is a dirge ridden and highly confident affair. Powered by grooves inspired by Electric Wizard, EYEHATEGOD, Conan and High On Fire. This release takes on the heavier and seedier side of life. The EP explodes into life from the very first groove that provides an uncompromising style of music which offers a more violent offering from the underground scene which has Progressive themes reminiscent of bands such as YOB and ISIS.

There's a slight real life feeling to the entire EP which Leafblower with harsh vocals and brutal lyrics combining for a more gloomier effort on tracks such as Tiger Blood Offering and Light Dweller. The music can be quite volatile with Leafblower putting more emphasis on HEAVY VIOLENT grooves that expertly moves between the creative themes from the Doom/Sludge Metal Underground Scene.

Leafblower are part of the WEEDIAN movement but don't go expecting many STONER elements to appear on this EP. As you'll sorely be disappointed. Leafblower are all about monolithic and down-tuned Sludge grooves with the AMPLIFIER DISTORTION and Guitar Reverb offer moments of sheer brutality though Leafblower still manage to find the time to play some mighty riffs and catchy guitar solos along the way. Perhaps more so on Crocodile Tears and Sorrow Pit where Leafblower manage to have demented fun with their music.

The EP only lasts twenty five mins but that's all the time Leafblower need to impress the Underground Scene they have the talent and vision to make a name for themselves. If you're on the lookout for a more daring and brutal style of Doom/Sludge Metal then Leafblower will have you covered with this outstanding and action packed release.

Don’t let the DEMO 2023 part of the title of this record put you off from listening Into Nothingness I Walk. As this almost feels like a first rate studio recording from Italian Psych Doom/Stoner Metallers ORBITA. Their debut release is a blend of Classic Doom Rock and Modern Psych Stoner Metal with flashes of Cosmic Fuzz which allows ORBITA to have that extra level of heaviness to the delicious grooves that fully compound this release.

There’s a subtle Blues Rock and SABBATHIAN groove to this release which is used to great effect within the opening song This Flesh. ORBITA weaves between Doom Metal, Stoner Metal, Psych Rock and OCCULT influences which appear on the later stages of the track. The clean based vocals can have a more aggressive feeling in places but it’s the music that holds your attention with ORBITA perhaps inspired by other bands of the Stoner Metal underground scene but playing their own KICK-ASS sound.

Second song Relieved starts off with a slow-pounding Blues Rock sound with echoes of Seventies Hard Rock that are quite mellow before the cautious vocals become more OCCULT based yet again. The music starts off quite slow and highly atmospheric with ORBITA becoming slightly dramatic and over the top before the heavy DOOMED OUT grooves make a welcome appearance with a creaking WEEDIAN attitude offering despairing levels of FUZZED OUT metal. The song is quite different to the other tracks on the album. As ORBITA have more time to play with and inject different styles of music into the mix. Though, the second half of the song is where the best parts of the album appear.

The final two tracks of Voices and Ten Minutes both offer the heaviest (Voices) and most mellowest (Ten Minutes) parts of the album though Ten Minutes does become heavier along the way through it’s almost epic ten minutes run time. The grooves have a subtle Classic Hard Rock feeling with that Psych Stoner and Post-Whatever groove holding everything together. The production values allow ORBITA to become more comfortable with the creative choices they’ve made for this part of the album. 

The overall sound of the album is excellent even when the overall sound is quite DIY based. ORBITA sound excellent from start to finish and prove they have vivid imaginations with the lyrics they’ve written for this record. The record could be a bit more daring with the heavier grooves but with this being ORBITA’s debut release this is my only complaint for a superbly entertaining album that showcases another great band to check out from the Italian Doom/Stoner Metal Underground Scene.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
