Review:

Bongcleaner are a Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal band from Melbourne, Australia and they play Down Tuned and Low & Slow grooves that’s inspired by bands such as SLEEP, BONGZILLA and WEEDEATER. The vocals are aggressive and harsh throughout with the band including sublime humorous lyrics written for this EP which may raise a laugh or two along the way especially on Magic Circle, Snow Bunny and Bongxiety.

The music is your standard WEEDIAN fare but there’s a menacing touch to Bongcleaner’s music which is perhaps mostly down to the mid pace delivery of their music. As the band offer a more violent and aggressive Power Trio stance especially with the “LOW & SLOW” aspect of their music.

Bongcleaner do play some fantastic trippy extended progressive jams on this EP with Magic Circle offering a gloomier style of Psychedelic Stoner Metal with the band talking about a bad hallucinogenic trip gone badly and blurring into reality. The lyrics are quite clever with a lot of great wordplay written for this track. The music moves between SLEEP style sonic based grooves and the free flowing BLACK SABBATH amplifier based sounds.

The EP can be downright FREAKY and SEEDY which is perhaps down to the splendid production values which showcases Bongcleaner’s primal style of Sludge/Stoner Metal down to a fine art. The legendary Brad Boatright mastered the EP at his famed Audioseige Mastering studios which is another indication on how good this EP actually is.

The last two tracks of Bongxiety and Dead Seeds are my favourite parts of the EP. These two tracks offer the most impressive grooves which have moments of classic Punk Rock energy and aggressive melodic sounds within Bongxiety. Dead Seeds moves into more Atmospheric and Psychedelic territory with a more Progressive theme being included within their music.

Bongcleaner debut EP is a wickedly entertaining EP that’s made me an instant fan of their music. More please guys

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
