Voidozer is a post sludge / post doom band from the South West of France (near Toulouse) formed back in 2021 around Nicolas on lead vocals, Stéphane on bass, Florian on drums and Matthieu on guitars.
Voidozer’s music is a subtle mix of influences, all converging towards heaviness, high gain fuzz and an inevitable sense of darkness. The songs take their lyrical themes and tempi from doom all the while the massive and almost self collapsing high gain sound draws from sludge. The screamed vocals lean towards post hardcore thanks to their nihilist and extreme approach. One can also feel a touch of prog metal (both old school and modern) on specific parts.
In terms of influences, the heavier moments might recall Conan, Yob or Domkraft. The melodic arrangements, especially on bass, are closer to the glorious days of Monolord or Windhand. The most tense riffs will rather remind you of Crowbar or Mastodon and the prog incursions have a Baroness or Tool feel to them. For the rhythm section, it takes as much from Envy as it does from the Deftones and the vocal delivery is a clear tribute to Will Haven, Neurosis, Arkangel or even Down.
All coming from various musical backgrounds and having a long history in many past bands, the four musicians from Voidozer had to work hard to find the formula allowing everyone to shine and express themselves creatively while keeping a coherent artistic vision. The outcome has first been filmed for a live session released in 2022 (“It’s a.live” filmed at Meskine Studio) before taking it to the road test (see scenic references). In 2024, Voidozer is releasing the music video for their 12 minutes long number called “Silence is great” and will open for High on Fire on the Toulouse stop of the “Cometh the Storm” European tour.
From the busiest pub to the biggest crowds, Voidozer simply aims at sharing their music with all the “wall of amps music” lovers.
