Review

It’s another day in the Stoner Rock world and time for a hard-rocking duo from the Texan Stoner Rock scene to make an appearance. Sons Of Gulliver play a fast-paced style of Hard Rock/Stoner Rock with a kinetic and buoyant Desert Rock energy within their music. Their self-titled debut EP lasts under thirty minutes across six tracks with the band touching upon areas of Boogie Rock, Classic Rock and some good old fashioned Southern Rock attitude.

The songs have a simple premise but they’re all superbly catchy and capture the main essence of the Texan Stoner Rock sound whilst adapting to play their music to a wider Stoner based audience. The vocals from Justin Potter have that classic Hard Rock persona with a Southern Rock/Metal swagger that has elements of LEMMY to them which you can hear within the blistering opening number Desert Boogie and then goes all out on tracks Red Sun Blues and Feeding The Horse.

The lyrics contained on the tracks are superbly realised with plenty of spiky humour to go with the hard rock presence that Sons Of Gulliver have written throughout. The music is the main draw with moments of Psychedelic grooves being given a bass heavy makeover with the sublime pounding drums of Dolphin Riot giving this EP a whole muscular and aggressive sound of their own.

The other tracks on the EP of Nothing But Human and El Diablo Cazador De Hombres allows Sons Of Gulliver the perfect opportunity to switch things around a bit with a Fuzzed Up Style appearing with a Sludge Punk atmosphere appearing within the distorted movements held with Nothing But Human following a similar destructive and distorted path.

The final track Riding In Black/Bereft The Bastard has a more vibrant HEAVY METAL and PUNK ROCK sound which isn’t surprising since it was recorded live. There’s nothing flashy or overstated with this track as Sons Of Gulliver let their music do the talking with cool sounding moments of heavy distorted Doom/Stoner Rock with a twisted Desert Rock vibe appearing.

Sons Of Gulliver’s debut EP is a welcome addition to the Desert/Stoner Rock Underground Scene with plenty of moments for fans to lose themselves in. And with these guys being from the Texan Stoner Rock Scene then you know you’re in for a great ride of Hard Rocking Entertainment.
