Review

INFINIHATE is the new EP from Welsh Doom/Death/Sludge Metallers Gnasch who have prepared a singular twenty minute plus track release that is quite unforgiving with its unrelenting style of Death Metal inspired Doom/Sludge Metal sounds. The track is also quite riff-centric and not what I was expecting at all. As I was holding out initially for a release full of classic Death Metal blast beats and faster moments of sheer brutality.

However, Gnasch have a classic down-tuned approach which reminded me of the NOLA Metal scene with an sublime EYEHATEGOD and Soilent Green influence starting to appear. Throw in moments of abstract Psychedelic passages and extended Drone based moments that you could easily identify with SUNN 0))) especially towards the half-way mark.

The vocals are a mixture of harsh growls, guttural screams and ethereal chanting which merges Death Metal theatrics and tribal chants on the later stages of the track. Gnasch are a band very hard to pin down as they play music from the more extreme side of the musical spectrum but they have a great way of playing expressive moments of Progressive based Doom/Sludge Metal which allows INFINIHATE to be their most impressive release to date.

INFINIHATE is perhaps more suited to the Extreme Metal crowd though if the casual listener maybe surprised what they hear as Gnasch are a superbly talented bunch who know who to generate a mean sounding RIFF out of nothing and then unleash a torrent of FILTH into their direction.

Embrace the DARKNESS if you have the stomach for this.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
