Review

Psych Doom/Stoner Riffsters WyndRider return with their second album Revival and it continues the Fuzzed Up Aggression sound of their acclaimed debut release with perhaps the band employing a Classic Rock or Retro-Doom signature this time round. The record is packed full of thunderous Stoner Metal vibes with a backdrop of sludgy Occult Rock grooves which matches Chloe’s dominant vocals that has echoes of Proto-Doom, Blues Rock and Soulful influences spliced throughout the whole album.

WyndRider employ a weirdly trippy variety of Occult and Gothic tones for the creative narrative for the album whilst playing a classic leaning and BEEFED UP Stoner Metal sound which builds upto an epic WALL OF NOISE on certain parts of the album. You can hear influences from bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zepp, CREAM and Electric Wizard within the vintage sounding instrumental jams with the production being quite raw in the best possible way.

Revival feels quintessentially CLASSIC SOUNDING and having the right approach for becoming a first rate modern day Doom/Stoner Rock experience with WyndRider taking more bewitching and occult based turns on the filthiest and heaviest parts of the album.

Each track presented within Revival sees WyndRider deliver another fresh sounding style of Proto-Doom/Stoner Metal that surrounds itself with bleak lyrics that have a slight personal element to them especially on tracks such as: Forked Tongue Revival, Judas, Devil’s Den and Under The Influence.

However, WyndRider know how to have some demonic fun along the way with tracks such as: Motorcycle Witches, Remember The Sabbath and The Wheel which captures a seedy 60’s Hard Rock Culture when merged within the hard-going 70’s Proto-Metal environment but it’s the bone crunching Stoner Metal sound that captures the true heaviness of Revival. This allows WyndRider to play a tighter, leaner and meaner style of FUZZY SONIC DEVASTATION when compared to their debut album.

Revival has a top-notch “WORLD BUILDING” and “CINEMATIC” aspect that allows the record to become brilliantly HEAVY and PUNISHING whilst still leaving the listener wanting to hear more.

WyndRider have once again delivered the goods with Revival and perhaps laid down a path for themselves that promises greater recognition and rewards in the next year or so. This is an absolute BEAST of an album which you’ll be listening to in the years to come…
