Review
Pilgrims Of The Sun is the new album from Instrumental Stoner Rockers Atomic Vulture which sees the band return with a heavier sound compared to their last few releases. The record still sees the band playing their usual blend of Desert/Stoner Rock but with a Doom Rock aspect becoming slightly more distinctive with the raw sounding production values bringing quite an abstract Space Rock style to the album.
Atomic Vulture aim for spacious and atmospheric grooves within every corner and level of the album with a classic KARMA TO BURN influence heard throughout especially on the early album tracks of The Landing, Alpha Wave and Ad Astra. Though, the bands use of freaky Psychedelic melodies are quite unexpected which leads into almost 70’s Blues/Prog Rock extended jams which gives the record a free flowing Desert Rock creative energy. Add some killer soundbytes and muscular Sludgy guitars with Atomic Vulture developing their brand of intense of Instrumental Desert/Stoner Rock sounds which adds an air of mystery of them.
The album sees Atomic Vulture develop their own sound on the blistering final three tracks of the album of Black Blizzard, Reverse Osmosis and Subterranean Surfers which sees the band drift into Cosmic based territories with Ambient themes amongst the setting of the Classic Desert/Stoner Rock sounds.
There's even some moments that could be classed as too "Jazzy" for some but there's always an outlandish Stoner groove that's never too far behind that allows Atomic Vulture to play more of their familiar style of music to lose yourselves in. The music is once again quite aggressive with plenty of instrumental muscle allowing Atomic Vulture to play the heaviest and fastest parts of the whole album.
Pilgrims Of The Sun is another exciting, action packed and superbly produced album from Atomic Vulture who are surely one of the best Desert/Stoner Rock bands that Belgium currently has right now.
Excellent and Highly Recommended.
