The Banner Has An Eye

Review

The Banner Has An Eye is the second single from Psych/Prog/Stoner Rockers Hollow Drifter upcoming second album Devolve which will be released on 1st November 2024 and follows the same heavy structure of the previous single Blizzard Wizard. There’s some deep 1970’s Prog Rock and Proto-Doom lore within this track with the stripped back guitars and folk-based melodies that appear.

The sound can be quite Garage Rock based at times but Hollow Drifter has an eerie Occult Rock sound that allows them into modern day Stoner Rock pastures which perhaps comes through the sleazy guitars and sublime vocals. Though, the majority of the time Hollow Drifter perhaps feel more comfortable with their 1970’s Hard Rock surroundings with a bombastic sludgy sound coming out of nowhere that appears after an exquisite Folk based instrumental solo. Everything becomes more chaotic and slightly destructive with the Psychedelic Guitars having a screeching essence to them.

Hollow Drifter keeps on creating a blend of intense Psych Rock with ambient noises and subtle Jazzy sound effects which once again puts the band into Proto-Doom Metal waters. The track runs under ten minutes in length which showcases a wealth of different sounding Stoner Rock sounds that can be quite deceiving with the sheer level of seedy FUZZY HEAVINESS the band are quite adept at hiding behind.

This could end up becoming the standout track of the upcoming album so Devolve has a lot to live upto. Check these guys out as Hollow Drifter could have a potential great album on their hands.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
