Exclusive Song & Video Premiere Of Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metallers VEILCASTE Stunning Track CHAINS From Upcoming New Album

Forged in Indianapolis, Indiana, Veilcaste has spent the better part of fifteen years crafting music that is as //emotionally weighty as it is sonically crushing. Emerging from the band's earlier incarnation as Conjurer, Veilcaste represents both an evolution in identity and a continued commitment to writing immersive, riff-driven doom and sludge that resonates long after the final note fades.

Drawing from the bleak atmosphere of traditional doom, the raw power of sludge metal, and the expansive dynamics of post-metal, Veilcaste creates songs that balance massive, earth-shaking riffs with moments of haunting melody and introspection. Their music explores themes of personal struggle, perseverance, loss, and the complexities of the human experience, delivering a sound that is both punishing and deeply reflective.

The band's previous full-length, Precipice, showcased their ability to weave towering heaviness with thoughtful songwriting, earning praise throughout the underground doom community and further establishing them as one of the Midwest's standout heavy acts.

Now entering a new chapter, Veilcaste has partnered with Louisville, Kentucky-based Third House Communications to support the release of their upcoming album, Hellward. The collaboration marks the band's most ambitious campaign to date as they continue expanding their reach while remaining true to the uncompromising sound that has defined them since their inception.

Whether commanding a stage with their thunderous live performance or constructing dense, emotionally charged studio recordings, Veilcaste continues to push forward with unwavering authenticity, proving that the heaviest music can also be among the most human.

Exclusive Video Premiere Of Doom/Sludge Metallers RED QUIET New Song - “Xenomorphism”

Biography: Red Quiet. Post. Noise. Sludge.

This is how the riff infused power trio from the South West of France introduce themselves to the crowd starting each gig.

Formed by three veterans of the Toulouse rock and metal scene, Red Quiet started in the summer of 2025 after the break-up of Voidozer, in which both Baptiste (drums) and Matt (guitars) used to play. Quickly joined by long time friend Sebastien on bass and singing duties, they forged their sonic identity around an elaborated and yet straight forward formula:

- Noise rock influenced riffs.
- Post metal melodies.
- Post Black / Post hardcore harshed vocals.
- Massive and explosive drum parts.
- A lot of feedback from gain stacking.
- And a bit of sludge dissonances, odd rhythmic accents and time signatures.

Their lyrics and visual universe is based around their passion for horror movies as these fictions turn out to be less dark than the reality surrounding us. Musical influences include: Mantar, Red Fang, Slift, the Melvins, Amenra, Bruit, Yob, etc.

Their first single, “Xenomorphism” - recorded by Yves De Roeck at Les Productions du Chauve (a staple of South West France independent stoner and doom recording) - is an ode to the 1979 cult classic Alien, as it depicts the Human as the real villain and apex predator of our world. The music video, directed by long time friend and collaborator Jo Tempie, emphasizes the four states of the Alien lifecycle.

The egg in black and white, the facehugger has strangers enter the scene, the chestbuster characterised by the blood red color and finally, the xenomorph, hiding in the dark corners, represented by this discrete and warm light of the song’s melodic finale.

After a few shows in their local area, the band is ready to explore new territories in 2026 and plans to record their debut album later this year.

Progressive Stoner Metallers PLAINDRIFTER Release New Video For Stunning New Song "In Anima" From Forthcoming New Album.

German progressive stoner metallers PLAINDRIFTER have released the second single "In Amina" from their forthcoming second album "Gestalt" which will be released by the mighty Ripple Music from June 19th 2026.

You can watch the epic new single for "In Anima" below with this exclusive premiere thanks to the amazing folks over at Purple Sage PR and Ripple Music.

The track features the excellent vocals from Ryan Garney from the awesome Stoner Rock band HIGH DESERT QUEEN.

The Lowdown

With their 2021 debut Echo Therapy hailed as "a mind-blowing journey" by the Doom Charts and "music for the mind, body and soul" by UK website Outlaws of the Sun, it is clear that Plaindrifter have impressed critics and fans alike, as few newcomers do.

Now, the band returns with their forthcoming sophomore album and Ripple Music debut; Gestalt. Pushed by a deep sense of self-criticism and a fear of repeating themselves, Plaindrifter have expanded their signature blend of tempo and key changes with bold new elements, including keyboards by Philipp Seitzer and guest vocals from Ryan Garney (High Desert Queen) and Lena Schneider. The result is an immersive, forward-looking heavy journey born from patience, passion, that should caught the ear of fans of Elder, King Buffalo, Howling Giant and Lowrider. The album was produced, engineered and mixed by Robin Stirnberg, mastered by Dennis Köhne, with a stunning cover artwork by André Tinibel.

PLAINDRIFTER "Gestalt" - Out June 19th on Ripple Music (LP/CD/digital) - Pre-order

TRACKLIST:

1. Moth Murmuration
2. Eternal Season
3. Hyborian Age
4. Respite
5. In Anima
6. Debaser

Hailing from Germany's industrial heartland, the Ruhr Area, Plaindrifter formed in 2017 to forge a brand of heavy psych that refuses to stand still. Blending hypnotic riffs, expansive soundscapes, and the restless spirit of stoner, prog, and post-rock, their 2021 debut Echo Therapy carved out a name in the European underground, winning over listeners with raw heaviness and unexpected melodic depth.

The band entered the studio in June 2025 with engineer Robin Stirnberg, but an unexpected setback forced them to relocate mid-session. Undeterred, Plaindrifter finished recording Gestalt in their rehearsal space. That resilience paid off quickly: through their friends in High Desert Queen (whose frontman Ryan Garney lends guest vocals to the track "In Anima"), the album's master found its way to Ripple Music's Todd Severin, who took the leap and instantly welcomed the band to the label's roster. Now looking ahead with optimism, the band invites listeners old and new to dive into their anticipated new album Gestalt, to be released in the summer of 2026.

Nils Stecker — Guitar
André Tinibel — Bass

Psych Stoner Rockers MISTER EARTHBOUND Release Live Video For FOOLISH EYES From Their New EP OSTARA

Four years after their release of 2022's Shadow Work album, Mister Earthbound is resurrected with their newest 3-song seasonal release, Ostara. Featuring lush instrumentation, blooming harmonies, and driving percussion, Ostara is a heavy, bluesy, psychedelic reflection on the vernal.

Produced, tracked, mixed, and mastered by the band's own Walter Gray at his studio The Funhouse, Ostara is the first in an ambitious new series of EPs in 2026. Each is set to launch on a seasonal solstice or equinox, with the bound collection being released as their sophomore record, Endless Man.

The brainchild of guitarist Walter Gray, Mister Earthbound originally emerged after its founder returned to his hometown of Richmond, Virginia in 2016 armed with a pocket full of riffs and a drive to hit the road with a new project. Named as a homage to Napoleon Hill's book "Outwit The Devil", the quartet rapidly established themselves in their region and beyond as pioneers of a new breed of swamp rock, and have been captivating a diverse and growing fanbase ever since.

Building on the foundations laid by influences from the trippy tones of the 13th Floor Elevators and the raucous early days of Pentagram to the eerie blues of Robert Johnson with a psychedelic, doom-tinged approach, Mister Earthbound’s signature blend of searing riffs, haunting vocals, and driving rhythms transports audiences to the depths of the swamp both through their studio recordings and their electric live shows alongside sonic titans like Dead Meadow, Kadavar, Weedeater, YOB, and Black Mountain.

With a host of achievements already under their belt, including the release of their debut record "Shadow Work" via Kozmik Artifactz and a feature in Embassy Skateboards' "Winter Warriors", Mister Earthbound's momentum is at an all-time high as they prepare for their biggest undertaking yet with the Endless Man series of EPs.

Ahead of OSTARA's release tomorrow, the band have released a live video for the standout track Foolish Eyes for you to check out below:

Burning Sister - Dead Love (Single Review And Exclusive Song Premiere)

Release Date: July 08th 2025. Record Label: Self Released. Formats: DD

Dead Love - Tracklisting

Dead Love - 7:20

Members

Steve Miller - Bass, Synth, Vox

Alison Salutz - Drums

Review

Burning Sister return with their latest venture into “HIGH DOWNER ROCK” territory with the new single Dead Love which features another aggressive style of smoked up FUZZY atmospherics spliced with trippy Doom/Stoner Metal melodies. This time round the band conjure up a Proto-Metal style of music with elements of Garage Rock which is quite different to their last song of Lethe//Oblivion.

The stripped back energy has a more dynamic presence with Burning Sister just being a bass and drums type of band for this current moment in time. This may change in the future if they decide to add another guitarist into the mix. For now, Dead Love allows Burning Sister to operate with seedy Psychedelics with a sound that has a slight Monster Magnet (TAB era) influence with layers of frenzied sludgy sounds.

Steve Miller’s appear sporadically throughout the song and even then their brief and straight to the point. Alison Salutz excels on drums by putting in a measured and commanding performance. Steve’s bass playing has a subtle Space Rock energy when compared to his sublime Synths that dominate the Space Rock landscape.

Once again, Burning Sister moves away from the sound they created on their acclaimed 2022 album “Mile High Downer Rock”. Dead Love has a more gloomier environment with catchy, aggressive and subversive melodies being quite progressive that sees Burning Sister drifting ever closer to the promised land of HIGH DOWNER ROCK and creating something original and special indeed.

This is another outstanding slice of Doom/Stoner Metal from one of the coolest bands currently within the underground scene and why their upcoming new album due for release later this year is perhaps my most anticipated album of the year.

Burning Sister have kindly allowed me to premiere the song in full which you can watch below.

Exclusive Video Premiere For Sludge/Stoner Metallers GRIN New Song BENEATH THE ALTAR

With "Acid Gods", heavy psych-doom duo GRIN push their raw and hypnotic sound to new extremes. Stripping things down to just fuzzed-out bass, pounding drums and vocals, Jan (drums, vocals) and Sabine Oberg (bass) prove once again that less can hit a lot harder. Picking up where the "Black Nothingness" EP left off, they dive deeper into lo-fi heaviness and textured sludge, with zero interest in following trends or softening the blow.

"Acid Gods" is all grit, weight and conviction. Tracks like Beneath the Altar and Unshut hit hard with thick grooves and a sludgy stomp reminiscent of The Melvins and Eyehategod. Jan’s vocals take center stage more than ever before, shifting between haunting and aggressive as the songs swell and collapse under waves of distorted low-end. Drag Me Down and Crystals push that balance further, with layered vocals cutting through hypnotic bass lines and driving percussion.

"Wild Eyes" shows how much tension GRIN can build with the bare minimum, and "Heavy Dew" closes the album in a tidal wave of fuzz and reverb, dragging the listener under before letting go. There’s a strange beauty in how stripped-down and overwhelming this record feels at the same time.

Recorded at Hidden Planet Studio in Berlin, Acid Gods was produced, mixed, and mastered by Jan Oberg, giving the record a raw but controlled sound. The artwork by Dawid M. Piprek and Caspar Orfgen (DAEVAR) mirrors the album’s dark, trippy vibe, perfectly tying together the music’s oppressive weight and hypnotic atmosphere.

Grin has been building toward this moment since their 2018 debut Revenant, refining their sound across Translucent Blades (2020), Phantom Knocks (2022) and Hush (2024).

With their continuously evolving sound, GRIN are a beacon of boundless creativity in the scene and "Acid Gods" is new testament to their artistry. On "Acid Gods" everything is just more. The intensity of the riffs, the boldness of the vocals, the heaviness of the bass and the detailed crunch of the production. Every GRIN album will have you wondering if this band can get any heavier (or better) and the answer is always YES.

"Acid Gods" will be released on May 30, 2025 via The Lasting Dose Records.

We're excited to premiere the exciting new video for BENEATH THE ALTAR from the upcoming album ACID GODS.

ACID GODS is due out on CD/DD/Vinyl formats via The Lasting Dose Records from Friday May 30th 2025.

Exclusive Video Premiere Of Grunge/Doom/Stoner Rockers TEMPLE OF DISCORD New Song BLACK OUT THE SUN

Dark and brooding, yet beaming with a multi-faceted appeal, "In The Ashes" explores a wide array of genres including classic heavy metal, alternative and grunge rock, dark folk as well as progressive rock. Marklund's vocals are intense and heartfelt, leading the instrumentation to uncharted emotional territories while constantly remaining on the verge of reaching fever pitch. From intense riff-driven bursts to semi-acoustic lulls, this album provides a gripping and unique experience for anyone listening.

"In The Ashes" is a dark exploration of the human psyche, mortality, and existential dread. The album delves into themes of death, self-destruction, and the chaos of inner demons, and explores the inevitability of mortality ("The Reaper"), the consuming nature of obsessive love ("Closer", "Black Out the Sun"), and the despair of self-inflicted pain ("Razor Me"), while also confronting guilt and the repercussions of violence ("The Fields"), and the search for identity amid self-loathing ("Someone Else").

In its final tracks, the album critiques societal deception ("All Their Lies") and reflects on personal downfall and alienation ("Rails"). As stated by frontman Mattias Marklund, "the album paints a grim, introspective portrait of loss, turmoil, and the longing for understanding in an uncaring world. But I consider myself a happy person. I promise."

Prog Stoner Rockers Vitskär Süden Premiere New Video For R’lyeh From New Album VESSEL

Progressive Stoner Rockers Vitskär Süden have just released their excellent new album Vessel today on esteemed Hard Rock Label RIPPLE MUSIC and we're excited to premiere the new video for one of the standout tracks "R’lyeh" which you can watch below:

The works of H.P. Lovecraft have always bubbled beneath the surface of Vitskär Süden’s music, the band considering themselves to be purveyors of weird fiction and cosmic horror in musical form. Storytelling has been present on all three V.S. albums, whether in a literal or figurative sense, so it seemed only natural to nod to the sunken city where great Cthulhu dwells in one of the band’s tracks.

“I believe I began singing the city’s name, R’lyeh, as temp vocals when we were working this song out and it just seemed to stick,” says vocalist/bassist Martin Garner. “We’d been building around the track’s main guitar riff for a few years and always been planning to do something with it – we Easter-egged it on our previous record The Faceless King within the spacey section of the song “The Way – Part 1” – and I suppose Lovecraft just chose this moment to make his appearance.”

In that spirit, the music video for “R’lyeh” features footage from a 2005 silent film version of The Call of Cthluhu directed by Andrew Leman, who co-runs the HP Lovecraft Historical Society based out of Los Angeles. Garner had contacted Leman early in the writing process to ask about the correct pronunciation of the fabled mythical city, but Leman assured him that the city’s name was in the alien tongue of the Great Old Ones and impossible to pronounce via the human vocal apparatus. So there was really no wrong way to pronounce it. That being the case, Garner pronounced it the way it sang best.

As for the music itself – three members of the band found themselves stranded from longtime drummer Christopher Martin for part of the recording process, and guitarist Julian Goldberger crafted an ARP and drum sequencer part so the rest of the band could begin tracking the elements of “R’lyeh”. The band fell in love with it and it became the heartbeat and foundation of the track.

“I’d been listening to a ton of Depeche Mode at the time and those sounds were creeping into my periphery,” says Garner. “I’m also a huge fan of John Carpenter’s film music, so I was fully ready to hear what the ARP might sound like turned loose in the dark soundscape of our Vitskär Süden world. Having the ARP in play also allowed me to get up into the midrange with the bassline a bit, since it was holding down the low end. So it really influenced and redefined what was happening sonically in the track.”

Thanks to Purple Sage PR for all of the info.

Vessel is available to buy now on CD/DD/Vinyl via Ripple Music

Review

Psychedelic Doomgaze Rockers – Dustern – are a band that I hadn’t came across before until I heard their upcoming new album River Of Years. Dustern are a band heavily influenced by the sounds of Shoegaze, Doom Metal, Electronica and Psychedelic Rock that all builds up to a highly experimental and emotional sound. Dustern channel the sounds of Tangerine Dream but give it a more Doom Metal/Shoegaze flavour with a dreamy Progressive Rock vibe.

Opening song – Falling Red – starts off promisingly with a Dustern playing a classical style of Doomgaze that soon changes to a more emotional blend of Psych Rock and 80s Gothic Pop sensibilities. Things turn rather drastic when the lush sounding vocals are joined by distorted growls and screams which come out of nowhere. Not exactly Avant-Garde but still a more adventurous style of music that I didn’t expect at all.

Second song – And Then A Season – feels like a moody and more sinister version of My Bloody Valentine with the Doomgaze guitars and fantastic vocals joining forces for a true “Doom” based sound. The atmosphere is quite raw but full of passionate moments that also offer a more 80s theatrical gloomy experience. The heavy guitars venture into standard Psychedelic Doom/Stoner Metal territory but it fully works and Dustern feel in control of their own destiny on this song.

Third song – is perhaps the most emotional and shoegaze track on the entire album and is built upon stunning vocals from LiHe Han, who gives her all on this song. The guitars are superb with Dustern playing a more deliberate slow-to-mid style of music that easily ranks as one of the best songs on the album.

Fourth song – Vastation – starts very slow where not a lot happens for the first few moments apart from cool sounding guitars appearing with a slight Alt-Rock/Americana/Psych Rock twinge to them. The song comes alive more in the second half when the vocals and heavy guitars appear for a more well-rounded and cinematic experience.

The final 3 songs on the album – Mira (New Shoes), Flood And Light and Ripariana offer almost 20 minutes of music and this is where Dustern pull out all the stops playing a spectacular style of Doomgaze and emotionally driven mix of Prog Rock and Psychedelic Rock. The songs move effortlessly from the different genres that Dustern play on this album. The lyrics have a heartfelt soul to them which are brought to life by another wonderful vocal performance from LiHe Han.

River Of Years is most definitely a team effort with each band-member bringing their “A” game to this record. This maybe not the most easy “Doom Metal” album to listen to but it’s always good to hear a band do something different and succeed on all levels. This album is proof of that and Dustern have released an emotionally complex and challenging album that dares to be different and become even better for it.

Words by Steve Howe

The band has just released a music video for the song 'Night Water'

California band Dustern, founded in the Bay Area and featuring members of Mountaineer and Catapult The Dead, are leading up to the July 17 release of their second full-length, “River of Years,” with a video for the song “Night Water.” The video, conceived and put together by members of the band under coronavirus lockdown, showcases a trippy visual minimalism that complements the band’s musical pursuit of atmosphere, beauty, and weirdness.

“River of Years” is the follow-up to 2018’s “Ouden,” which experimented with mixing together elements of doom metal, shoegaze, and a variety of other influences. On the new album, Dustern has taken their eclecticism in a heavier direction, with a thicker overall sound, the addition of virtuosic lead guitarist Kuranes, and vocalist LiHe Han’s alternations between wispy dream pop melodies and beastly, unnerving screams. The album will be released on vinyl, CD, and streaming platforms. It will be available to purchase or stream from their Bandcamp page: https://dustern.bandcamp.com/

Thanks to Dustern for the promo. River Of Years will be available to buy on CD/DD/Vinyl from July 17th 2020

Review

Blutbad new album Alcohodyssey is an wickedly entertaining romp that takes influence from the realm of Science Fiction with their highly cool take on all things Punk Rock/Stoner Metal. This is a band who don’t take themselves too seriously with outlandish lyrics leading the way.

Opening song – Lost In Space – is an Electronic/Stoner Rock hybrid song with lo-fi production values with “B” movie material written all over it. The quirky Electronic vocals are meant to imitate a Robot of some kind. Maybe from the TV Series in question the song is named after. The glitchy electronic sounds and beeps had me worried. As I was thinking I couldn’t listen to an album full of these different sounds. It would drive me insane. Though it’s quite a cool song to open the album with.

Second song – Alcohodyssey part.1 – opts for a more straight-forward Sludge/Stoner Metal sound where the riffs are fast and precise. There is a Motorhead sensibility within Blutbad’s sound that brings some much needed aggression to the table. The lyrics yet again are inspired by classic Science Fiction lore with the Lemmy inspired vocals of Tomi providing a cool sounding story. The music is lively and allows the band to play some superb riffs along the way.

Third song – Die Alone – is another crazy Punk/Sludge/Stoner Metal affair with the band taking influence from Kvelertak with their music but sounding more vibrant and a lot more fun as well. The lyrics is perhaps the best thing about this album. As the band are quite the wordsmiths with their Sci-Fi inspired lyrics and matching them against addictive heavy Sludge/Stoner grooves.

The rest of the album follows the same crazy “B” movie inspired route over eight more songs with Blutbad playing to their maximum potential. The album never lets up with the band playing a faster style of Punk/Sludge/Stoner Metal that can leave you breathless in places. The production is good but there are moments where the album sounds too raw at times but nothing major to stop you from enjoying the whole wild ride the band have created here.

Other good songs to check out are: Sunday Of Living Dead, Space Tramps, I Want To Believe, Steam Road and Flash Goldon. As these songs show you what’s so good about Blutbad. The energetic lyrics and heavy sounding riffs have quite an inventive flair about them and it’s good to hear a band playing to their strengths even if they’re using Science Fiction Pop-Culture as their main influences.

If you’re a fan of Red Fang, Motorhead and Valient Thorr then Blutbad should be at the very top of your list for cool bands to check out now.

Overall, Alcohodyssey is an exciting and crazy album to listen to that has something different to offer.

The Lowdown

Psychedelic Doom/Sludge Metallers GRIN will be releasing their excellent new album Translucent Blades on January 17th 2020 via Crazy Sane Records.

We reviewed the album earlier this week. Where I stated the following:

"Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metal Duo – Grin – are back with their new album Translucent Blades – and it continues their heavy down-tempo sound the band created with their excellent debut album from a couple years back. This album is perhaps way more psychedelic and sees the band more comfortable with their heavy surroundings. Grin feel inspired by bands such as Conan, Sleep and Ufomammut on this album but playing by their own heavy rules for an uncompromising sound."

The band have now released a new video for the title track - Translucent Blades - which you can watch below.

The video is trippy and way out there but shows you what to expect from the album.

Thanks to Chris at Crazy Sane Records for the details.
