Band Bio
After a decade-long hiatus, Duskhead just marked their return to the heavy stoner scene with the release of their new single “Two Heads”. The track serves as a tantalizing preview of their upcoming EP “The Messenger” set to be released in March of next year.
Duskhead started in 2013 as a side project of TANK86 drummer Rogier Berben and bassist Jochum van Weert, who sought an outlet for some of their more accessible heavy rock material that didn’t fit the heavy instrumental aesthetic of TANK86. After releasing two EPs and playing several shows in the Dutch underground in 2013 and 2014, the focus shifted back to TANK86 and Duskhead went on hiatus.
The band has now re-emerged as a power-trio with Elmer Meijers (The Grand Astoria) taking up guitar duties. And with TANK86 no longer active, the Duskhead sound has shifted a few notches into heavier territory while keeping their more song-oriented approach. Armed with fresh songs and new interpretations of their older work, the band is ready to hit the stage again in 2025 and bring their accessible yet intense songs to the masses.
Review
Stoner Rockers Duskhead return from a lengthy hiatus to release their blistering new single Two Heads and it’s a glorious return with the band focusing upon a heavy riff-centric style of RAWK & ROLL with blazing Psychedelic grooves. The sound has a raucous Punk Rock swagger coming through the vocals and rebellious attitude from the band in general.
Taking cues from the likes of Red Fang, KYUSS, CLUTCH and FU MANCHU, this track is good old fashioned Stoner Rock/Metal with the right amount of Fuzzy melodies and Hard Rock riffs that sees some fabulous instrumental solos being played along the way.
The vocals from Jochum van Weert become ever more aggressive and even menacing in places which allows Duskhead to offer a BEEFIER and MUSCULAR Stoner Metal sound before the song finishes suddenly and with a direct purpose as well. The production values are superb with a stripped back approach and never using flashy studio tricks throughout the track. The sound is thoroughly modern whilst paying homage to the classic days of Stoner Rock/Metal.
With TANK86 sadly no more, it’s good to see Duskhead returning in such an impressive way and their upcoming new EP “The Messenger” being released early next year, 2025 could be an important year for the band. I’m looking forward to hearing and reviewing “The Messenger” when that opportunity arises.
