JAKETHEHAWK Announce New Cover of SEVEN DEVILS by FLORENCE & THE MACHINE

Acclaimed Psych Stoner Rockers JAKETHEHAWK are hitting the road later this year and to celebrate they have just released an wonderful new cover of Seven Devils by FLORENCE & THE MACHINE

The band said the following about the new video and song choice.

"I've always been really impressed with the orchestration and production in Florence & The Machine records, and this song was always a favorite... so it was a fun challenge to interpret it through the lens of our style.  There is a lot of air in the production of the original, so finding ways to make the track hit hard, while still maintaining that sense of space was a unique challenge, but I'm really happy with the sounds and moments we captured here.  Also, we had the opportunity to have Jack Ferranti, my dad, sing some harmony vocals on this track so that was a really cool experience for me since I probably wouldn't be playing music at all if it wasn't for him.  The cover art / photos were taken by Trevor Richards.

We are back on the road this summer and thrilled to be finally playing shows again.  We will also be doing a fairly extensive east coast tour in the fall that should be announced very soon!

July 10 - 123 Pleasant St. - Morgantown, WV
July 30 - Buzzbin - Canton, OH
August 13 - Sam's Uptown - Charleston, WV
August 14 - "The Deviant Collective" @ Oliver Brewing Co. - Baltimore, MD

We are proud to be included on two tribute compilations that will be released later this year/early next year as well as the release of the 2020 Virtual Ripplefest Show through Ripple Music.  As far as new original music, we are finalizing details to do a split with certain friends of ours from Louisville Kentucky through Ripple Music to be released early 2022 as well."

Thanks to Claire at Purple Sage PR for all the details.

Hinterlands is available to buy now on CD/DD/Vinyl via Ripple Music.

Review

Hinterlands is the new album from Psych Stoner Rockers JakeTheHawk. This is the band's first record for their new label Ripple Music and continues in a similar style of music as that we’ve seen bands such as Forming The Void and Howling Giant played to great acclaim. I can see similar great things for JakeTheHawk on their new album with the band playing a more majestic style of Psych Stoner Rock compared to their debut album.

Hinterlands is a spellbinding collection of epic songs that drifts from one style of Psychedelic Stoner Rock/Metal to another that you wouldn’t expect.

Opening song - Counting - opens with an almost surreal Ambient Post-Rock texture where the guitars slowly come into focus and move into a heavier style of Post-Doom/Post-Stoner that allows JakeTheHawk to expand on their heavy progressive sound. The vocals are excellent from the start and goes superbly well with the heavy sludgy guitars appearing for a more Alternative Desert Rock sound.

Second song - Ochre And Umber - adapts a different style of music for this song with a more folk rock atmosphere blending Americana themes and JakeTheHawk’s unmistakable heavy guitar trademark sound. The song then moves into quieter territory for the vocals to take centre stage and the Alternative vibe of the album leading the way. There is still some gloomy atmospherics heard within the song but the song also adds a more despairing Desert Rock flow which the band have delicious fun playing their progressive riffs against.

Third song - Interzone Mantra - opens with a gloomy riff that has fun teasing the listener of what style of music that will appear next. JakeTheHawk plays another wild style of Cinematic Post-Doom Rock with that addictive Psych Stoner Metal having a more direct presence to it. The song takes it’s time to get to its natural conclusion. The vocals whilst not as strong as the opening two songs do offer a different style when the band offer dual vocals that move into CHANT based territory.

The 2nd half of the album sees JakeTheHawk continue their Psychedelic Music revolution with the band changing styles yet again across 3 excellent songs with Still Life and June being the best parts of the album. Whilst there are some challenging parts for the listener to experience, the album is always constantly engaging backed up by fantastic production values. This is a Ripple Music, do we expect anything less.

Hinterlands is a deeply rich and progressive wild album with a few surprises along the way. Such as the harsh vocals that appear out of nowhere on certain parts of the album.

JakeTheHawk calls their music Appalachian Desert Rock and that is a good description but there’s so much more to the band than that cool description. They have written excellent and emotionally driven lyrics to match the brilliant music contained on the album. Put this altogether and you have the ingredients for an unmissable album.

As I said before, if you dig Howling Giant and Forming The Void then JakeTheHawk will make you feel right at home with this spellbinding and deeply hypnotic album.

Additionally, heavy influence is drawn from the band’s home turf... both from the the lush, wooded river valley and from the rich tradition of folk music that still blossoms here.

The RippleFest Virtual show will be available on Ripple socials after the event.

Say Howling Giant: "We've been streaming on Twitch every week since August, and we wanted to bring our dearest friends into the fold. Both Jakethehawk and Horseburner are some of our favorite bands to play with live. Because of the wild ride that is 2020 we've all had to cancel many tour plans, so we were excited to reconnect with our comrades in a whole new live show experience that you can enjoy from your favorite couch or sitting apparatus."

"Even though 2020 has been awful and the future of live events is still hanging in the balance, one thing that continues to be awesome is music.  we miss playing in big rooms of people, but we're still fortunate to get to play with our best friends and I have just as much enthusiasm jamming with them as I do on a big stage.  The fact that we get to share this event with two of our favorite bands is really icing on the cake.  The fact that we can count the guys in those bands among our friends is extra icing.  Times are uncertain but I am infinitely grateful to be able to use the technology to hang with our friends and play for people" add Jakethehawk.
