Chattanooga’s Doom/Sludge Metallers Dope Skum return with new single “Hollow Point” And Announce Upcoming Shows

Southern sludge duo Dope Skum return with “Hollow Point” on July 4th, the lead single off their upcoming third EP Hollerwood (due Sept. 5).

Rooted in gritty riffs and born out of the backwoods, Dope Skum blends fuzz-heavy stoner metal with a punk bite. With Cody Landress-Gibson (guitar/vocals) hailing from the foothills of Appalachia and Scott Keil (drums) forging his musical path in Los Angeles, the band’s upcoming EP Hollerwood is an ode to their contrasting origins and is set for release on Sept. 5, 2025.

“‘Hollow Point’ hits hard and fast,” says Landress-Gibson. “It’s the kind of track that captures where we’ve been and where we’re going—showcasing musical influences from all aspects of the band.”

Fans can catch Dope Skum on tour this summer as the band travels across the Southeast, bringing their version of Southern stoner rock sound to stages and dive bars alike.

Formed in late 2020, Dope Skum has carved a deep groove in the Southern heavy underground with two previous EPs: 2021’s Tanasi and 2023’s Gutter South, plus the recently released live album Return to the Gutter South: Live at Cherry Street Tavern.

Follow Dope Skum on Bandcamp, Facebook, Instagram, and Spotify for tour updates and more release news.

Thanks to Dope Skum for all of the info.

Sail release melancholic fuzz-ladened single ‘Emotion Motional Ocean’ on June 3rd 2022

Sail release melancholic fuzz-ladened single ‘Emotion Motional Ocean’

Southwest-based metal four-piece Sail are pleased to announce the release of their upcoming single Emotion Motional Ocean (EMO) on June 3rd.

Formed in 2016, Sail draw influences from modern sludge, post-rock and grunge movements while bringing in unique elements of psychedelia and synth-driven flair, veering manically from catchy pop bangers to absolute noise.

The band released their debut album ‘Slumbersong’ via Hibernacula Records in March 2017, which saw them championed by the likes of Kerrang!, New Noise Magazine and Soundscape Magazine and tour the UK with the likes of Cybernetic Witch Cult, Morass of Molasses, Kylver and Morag Tong and Ireland with ZhOra and Everest Queen. With a handful of successful singles and a live EP under their belt since, the band are back with their latest single Emotion Motional Ocean.

Produced and mixed with Josh Gallop (Phoxjaw, Mother Vulture, Krooked Tongue), at Stage 2 Studios in Bath, Emotion Motional Ocean is their breeziest single yet. While still doused in fuzz, the song also delivers an addicting mix of soaring vocals, distorted guitar tones, and hooky choruses that are hard to resist.

Speaking about the single, vocalist and lyricist Tim Kazer says, “You know the end of Pinocchio with the Whale? Monstro I think. I went back and watched a clip and Gepetto will not stop talking about dying. Like I don’t think there was a single person who made that film thinking “this one’s for the kids!”. Emotions can be that way sometimes though, like being eaten alive. That’s what Emotion Motional Ocean is. One big alt rock emotional monster munch.”

Alongside the release of the single, the band are also releasing two remixes of Emotion Motional Ocean; A glitchy, dubstep remix by Glitchtrip and another more liquid / chillout remix by Kynan Destroyer.

Emotion Motional Ocean is due for release June 3rd and will be available on all major digital platforms.

Spacelord To Release Soaring Sci-Fi Single "Enemy Lines" on October 1st 2021.

Spacelord To Release Soaring Sci-Fi Single "Enemy Lines" Oct. 1

Full Album to Drop in Early November

Inspired by Russian science-fiction novel "Roadside Picnic," Spacelord's latest single "Enemy Lines" space-cowboys up with soaring verses and an anthemic chorus. Paired with a b-side cover of Led Zeppelin's "Out on the Tiles," "Enemy Lines" presages the band's third album, scheduled for an early November release.

"We're both insanely proud of this song," said singer Ed Grabianowski. "We hope our friends in the stoner, doom, and heavy psyche communities love it as much as we do. And we really hope this can reach a wider audience too. There are so many different elements coming together for this song, and for the full album, that I can't even tell you what genre it is. There's stuff here I think prog fans will like, stuff I think roots rock fans will like, classic rock fans, blues fans, even metal fans."

Spacelord made the Doom Charts with their first two albums, and played both the Descendants of Crom Festival and the Music is Art Festival in 2019. The core songwriting team of Root/Grabianowski embarked on a pandemic-induced remote recording project that evolved into what will be their third full-length album. "Enemy Lines is one of those tunes that forces itself into existence," said guitarist Richard Root. "It started as a simple acoustic track, but it was apparent to us right away that this song was begging to sprout much larger wings."

"A few years ago we played a Halloween show where we dressed up as Led Zeppelin and did a set of covers," said Grabianowski. "Even Stairway. But I was more intimidated by trying to do Bonham's drums for this Zeppelin cover than I was trying to do Plant's vocals. This song is so fun to play though. It's ridiculously happy."

Spacelord's third full-length album will be released in early November 2021.

Critical praise for Spacelord's last album, "Indecipher"

"If you like Corrosion of Conformity, you like Bad Company on steroids, Sasquatch, Spacelord is the kind of band you're gonna be like, 'Oh shit, this is pretty cool.'" -John Gist, The Doomed & Stoned Show

"The band utilize everything from the blues through to desert rock to fill out their grooves and boast a vocalist in Grabianowski who could easily hold his own with...names like Plant, Rodgers and Dio!" - Frazer Jones, Desert Psychlist

"Like an unexpected transmission from outer space, this album stopped me in my tracks!" -Pat Harrington, Electric Beard of Doom

"Listen closely -- this is that dark and seductively dangerous sinner’s kind of musical sinistry." -Leanne Ridgeway, Riff Relevant

Tracklist:

A-side: Enemy Lines (Root/Grabianowski)
B-side: Out on the Tiles (Bonham, Page, Plant)

Spacelord is:

Ed Grabianowski: vocals, drums
Richard Root: guitars, bass, producer
