Chattanooga’s Doom/Sludge Metallers Dope Skum return with new single “Hollow Point” And Announce Upcoming Shows

Southern sludge duo Dope Skum return with “Hollow Point” on July 4th, the lead single off their upcoming third EP Hollerwood (due Sept. 5).

Rooted in gritty riffs and born out of the backwoods, Dope Skum blends fuzz-heavy stoner metal with a punk bite. With Cody Landress-Gibson (guitar/vocals) hailing from the foothills of Appalachia and Scott Keil (drums) forging his musical path in Los Angeles, the band’s upcoming EP Hollerwood is an ode to their contrasting origins and is set for release on Sept. 5, 2025.

“‘Hollow Point’ hits hard and fast,” says Landress-Gibson. “It’s the kind of track that captures where we’ve been and where we’re going—showcasing musical influences from all aspects of the band.”

Fans can catch Dope Skum on tour this summer as the band travels across the Southeast, bringing their version of Southern stoner rock sound to stages and dive bars alike.

Formed in late 2020, Dope Skum has carved a deep groove in the Southern heavy underground with two previous EPs: 2021’s Tanasi and 2023’s Gutter South, plus the recently released live album Return to the Gutter South: Live at Cherry Street Tavern.

Follow Dope Skum on Bandcamp, Facebook, Instagram, and Spotify for tour updates and more release news.

Thanks to Dope Skum for all of the info.

You’re done. You have to get out. You have to get away. It’s time. It’s time to hit the road and not look back. Thankfully, you’ve got a souped-up, big bloc hot rod turbo-fueled by daemon blood from the fourteenth necrodimension that tears holes in reality every time it shifts gears and leaves blazing, runic glyphs on the melted asphalt as it screams (literally) into the night. When you truly have to leave this place for good, there’s simply…

”No Replacement For Displacement”, the latest single from cosmic sludge-sorcerers, Gorilla Wizard, is blazing ahead of their forthcoming EP, White Knuckle/Black Magic. So buckle in, throw it in high gear and hang on for dear life!!!

STÖNER is the supergroup formed by desert rock godfathers and long-time friends Brant Bjork (founding member of Kyuss, also former Fu Manchu), Nick Oliveri (Mondo Generator, former Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age) and Ryan Güt (Brant Björk drummer). Their debut studio album 'Stoners Rule' was released in the summer of 2021, and they quickly returned with their sophomore studio full-length 'totally...' in the spring of 2022, alongside an extensive tour across the US, Europe and Australia/New Zealand including appearances in the biggest festivals.

If the name STÖNER seems a little on the nose, well… it is. Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri, founding members of the stoner rock legend Kyuss, are joined again by drummer Ryan Güt (of Bjork’s solo band) and they’ve got dibs on the thick and dusty swinging grooves, returning as Stöner with their sophomore release ”totally…”. Their love for their early inspirations (bands like Blue Oyster Cult, Kiss, Ramones, Blue Cheer, Misfits, Black Flag, The Stooges, MC5) results in big, groovy, sunbaked riffs that can cruise low and slow but then floor it and run all the red lights.

Live, STÖNER is a band about the magnetism between the players, the groove, loose vibe and straight-up badass rock and roll… Stöner are masters of their trade. With “totally...”, Stöner is in its true form, getting together and having fun. Their world is a colorful joyride, heavy of rock but not of the head. The record cranks with vibes of classic hard rock, heavy blues, desert rock and psych rock jams — things that come organically to this trio. Stöner can’t help but express an abundance of punk rock rawness and passion for real rock and roll swagger. With two records, “Live at Mojave” and “Stoners Rule” (available on Heavy Psych Sounds), the latest full-length “totally...” sees the band realizing the chemistry of these old friends developing a statement of pure rock and roll fun. The band will soon release a new EP with the rock'n'rolling "Boogie To Baja", slated for a February 2023 drop on Heavy Psych Sounds.
