Greetings All,

I don’t often get a chance to review many EP’s. Although they are one of my favorite formats, short attention span and all. However, I came across a copy of the new EP by Irish two man monster, Gourd. This EP is a dark, noisy monster and an extremely interesting listen. Gourd is definitely not a band that you can pigeon-hole. They are heavy, experimental, evil, and weird.

The EP opens with Befoulment. It is a dark, dissonant, plodding work rot with guttural screams and vile sounds. Mycelium follows and mixes an array of sounds into its black, seething cauldron. It is rife with heavy black metal riffs, groans and shrieks, and funeral dirge like organ.

Moldering Aberrations uses a drum heavy intro to unleash more demonic evilness onto the masses

This EP is an absolutely intriguing introduction to the band Gourd. If you like your music emanating from the darkest recess of your mind, completely out of left field, or from the gates of hell, check out Gourd. Cursed Monk has found another stellar band to add to their line up. Gourd are not for the faint of heart. Accept your fate and the challenge. Dig on this one!
