Review
Boss Keloid's new live album is a studio performance of their 2021 acclaimed album Family The Smiling Thrush which the band did something similar with their 2018 landmark release Melted On The Inch. Family The Smiling Thrush Live at Foel Studio is perhaps more restrained than their previous live album with a band playing a less is more approach. However, Boss Keloid are still on majestic fine form playing the heavy progressive Sludge/Stoner Metal sounds the original album contained.
Standout tracks here are: Orang of Noyn, Gentle Clovis, Cecil Succulent and Flatt Controller.
As the band redefined what it means to be a truly great Prog Metal band on this live album. Backed by superb production values, this showcases the fantastic vocals from Alex Hurst truly holds and his vocal performance is nothing short of breathtaking. With excellent instrumental work from Liam, Paul, Ste and Matthew providing the more thrilling aspects of Boss Keloid and heavy grooves that have resonated with the Sludge/Stoner Metal underground scene.
The album has a more personal and intimate feeling than their 2018 Live Album. However, the band are more confident on this release perhaps due to the band playing more regular gigs since then.
Nothing more needs to be said with Family The Smiling Thrush Live At Foel Studios. Apart from this is a must have album to own for all fans of Boss Keloid. Ripple Music are releasing this great live album and it's a wicked package to own on CD and Vinyl with the added bonus of the Live Concert on DVD. The DVD even has an excellent making of the album included.
