Review

LÜGER new album Revelations Of The Sacred Skull is a refreshing change of pace for famed Underground Label - Heavy Psych Sounds. As HPS normally focus upon releasing some of the best Stoner, Sludge, Psych, Space and Doom bands the underground has to offer and this is anything but those things. LÜGER play a style of fast-paced and aggressive Hard Rock and Heavy Metal that evokes memories of bands such as Motorhead, The Stooges, TANK, Venom and even Alice Cooper (70’s era).

Revelations Of The Sacred Skull does have a slight Doom Rock/Metal flow to it all with the gloomy lyrics and bombastic vocals that accompany the album. The album is mega aggressive with a catchy element to the hard rocking grooves which can be heard on the superb opening tracks: Black Acid, Motörcity Hellcats and Night Of The Serpent Woman. With LÜGER moving across the classic heyday of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal with a buoyant Garage Rock sound with the ferocity of Motorhead but standing on their own creative ground.

There’s a ton of fantastic guitar shredding on this album with these early songs showing LÜGER know how to play simply played but wonderfully effective riffs that are pleasing to the ear and sure to get the most jaded Heavy Metal fan rocking out in agreement.

Sometimes an album just needs to cut the progressive flashy ideas out of the way and get straight down to the business of playing straight forward Rock and Roll with a no bullshit agenda. This is what LÜGER does so well on this album. The songs are always interesting to listen to with tons of different grooves that range from the straight up melodic to the heavier and thrasher style that accompanies the later stages of the album.

Revelations Of The Sacred Skull does also have its fair share of Psychedelic sounds and beats appearing when the mood calls for. This may not please the purist Heavy Metal fan out there but it does bring a fresh sound and atmosphere into the mix which I greatly admired.

Other standout tracks include: The Sacred Skull, Filthy Streets, Toxic Sludge, Bloodmoon and The Rise Of Witchcraft.

The album is backed up by solid lyrics, a stellar vocal performance and rich production values that all help Revelations Of The Secret Skull to be such an adventurous wild ride from the underground Heavy Metal scene.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
