After a six-year hiatus since their last album "The Law of Purity," RHINO is back, and they are here to redefine the very essence of heavy, monolithic music. The band is thrilled to announce the release of their latest full-length album, "Human Farm," marking a triumphant return to the music scene. The band is once again partnering with Argonauta Records, and the band extends their heartfelt gratitude for their continued support.

In the interim, the world has undergone transformative changes, and RHINO has evolved alongside it. RHINO's "Human Farm" is set to be unleashed in early 2024 through Argonauta Records. Brace yourselves for a journey through monolithic soundscapes and desertic landscapes as RHINO redefines the very essence of heavy music.

Rhino is a heavy stoner rock band rising from the sulphuric city of Catania, on the slopes of the Etna volcano, where the five members play a mix of stoner/desert rock from the ’90s and 2000 blended with the deep psychedelia of the ’70, resolving in an attitude built around a riff-driven composition, a megalithic wall of fuzz and tons of watts. Rhino was born in 2012 by an idea of the bassist Frank The Door and the guitarist Red Frank, briefly joined afterward by the drummer Lord J. Frank. Following the guitarist Francesco Cucinotta opting out of the band, the lineup was completed by Frank the Doc on vocal duties and Frank Real Tube on guitar. 

The lineup stood the same since then. Since their beginning, Rhino stand out for their extensive live activities through Italy, sharing the stage with such bands as Red Fang, El Perro and many relevant Italian acts. The band debuts in 2013 with their self-titled EP, followed by their first full length The Law of Purity (featuring I See the Monsters video clip), released on 2017 through Argonauta Records. Renewing the collaboration with Argonauta Records, Rhino’s second full length Human Farm will be release on early 2024, showcasing the most mature work of the band, who confirms to be true to riff worshipping and atmospheric psychedelia, still crossing the genre defining boundaries in an album that stands as unique in its segment.

New Jersey Stoner Metallers Ego Planet self-titled debut album is built on Heavy Psychedelic and Spaced Out Passages and draws inspiration from fellow New Jersey icons Monster Magnet. Even the band's name and album name maybe inspired by a certain Monster Magnet song or legendary comic book character. Though, Ego Planet plays with a more Cosmic Doomed Out Sound with plenty of Classic Hard Rock Swagger. With a slight variation of the gloomy sounds that early-era The Sword provided, this album is a wicked sounding record built on first rate Psychedelic Rock foundations with Jarrett's vocals having a slight Blues Rock/Alt Rock twang to them.

The storytelling and creative aspect of Ego Planet reminds me of Coheed And Cambira especially when the band are in full flight with their subtle Heavy Psych grooves. The first few opening tracks of the album Swallow The Sun, The Call and Reflection focus upon on highly melodic Heavu Psych vibes with a subtle layer of Stoner Metal heaviness which almost moves over to the Post-Stoner or Post-Doom variety which is becoming one of the more dominant forces within the underground Doom/Stoner Metal scene. Ego Planet stick to their creative strengths on the album with a dominant Heavy Rock core which gives way to some fabulous classic Heavy Rock/Metal guitar solos that never sound out of place. 

Ego Planet even adapted their Psych/Cosmic Sound to include traces of Funk Driven Sludgy grooves on the Reflection with a Post-Doom atmosphere changing into a frantic Alt-Rock approach. The song is one of my personal favourites on the album with how Ego Planet switches the mood to something different and wonderfully refreshing. The sound can be off-kilter but it shows that Ego Planet are fully in control of their own creative domain.

Ego Planet allowed themselves the opportunity to experiment with Ambient and Sonic textures with the music being more Doom Metal dominated on tracks such as Entertainment and Butcher's Blade. There's a slight reliance on Punk Rock attitude on these tracks and the later stages of the album with Ego Planet becoming more vicious with their lyrical imagery that resides within the song. This shows listeners that Ego Planet are more than happy to bring a Destructive Melodic Tone to the album. Vocals are handled superbly well throughout by Jarrett Mead with excellent instrumental work by Chris Baker (Guitars/Bass) and Steve Iannettoni (Drums) who all capture the legendary New Jersey Stoner Metal sound laid down by one of the true Godfathers of the Stoner Metal scene. Dave Wyndorf would be quite proud and optimistic with how Ego Planet delivers their own destructive blend of intense Cosmic/Stoner Metal sounds on the album.

Other standout tracks include Leviathan, Faceless Children and Order Of The Tree perhaps containing the more aggressive and trippy sounding moments of the album with Ego Planet once again delving further into the Doomed Out Heavy Metal abyss. Flashes of Classic Heavy Metal guitar solos will are handled superbly well with the band never overdoing that part of the album.

The vinyl edition of the album contains two bonus tracks with T.H.E.N  and Dead Man's Float. These are superb tracks in their own right but I felt they were the weakest link to an already brilliantly impressive debut release and I can see why Ego Planet decided to keep these as bonus tracks. 

Ego Planet have delivered the goods here with an action-packed release that allows listeners to experience a slightly different kind of Psychedelic Stoner Metal album that will ultimately leave you fully satisfied from start to finish.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

The music video pays homage to B-movie horror stories from the seventies, featuring ­captivating dance sequences and a gripping storyline. ­Directed by filmmaker Emil Dorbell and penned by Nepal Death's frontman, Anders Hallberg, the video was shot on location in an old strippers' joint featuring real actors and a horde of evil groovy cultists. The song is a pulsating empowering psychedelic rock anthem ­aiming for cosmic dancefloors in all dimensions. Like a ­marriage of the vibes from The Rolling Stones' 'Gimme ­Shelter,' and the aura of up tempo The Soundtrack of Our Lives. The track encapsulates the essence of the early trippy seventies, featuring psych guitars, backward sitars, infectious bass lines and a rhythmic drum groove... All interwoven with massive organ and magical flute melodies.

Nepal Death is like a transcendent 1972 VW bus voyage along The Hippie Trail. This Swedish musical collective is painting a vibrant auditory tapestry reminiscent of the era of free love, all set against the mysterious backdrop of death goddess Kali Ma. Their music beckons listeners to ­c­ontemplate the metamorphosis (or end) that await them beyond the ultimate destination of Kathmandu.

Review

Doom/Stoner Rockers Almost Honest released another track called Laughter Of The Deer Owl from their upcoming new album The Hex Of Penns Woods. This time round the band plays a classic style of Hard Rock, Doom Rock and Funk Rock blended within a blistering Psychedelic Stoner based package. Reminding me of Valiant Thorr in places with Almost Honest playing a no-frills style of music with production values allowing the track to have an almost LIVE RECORDING quality. 

The song is downright catchy with the right level of Stoner based aggression with the band playing some epic THIN LIZZY inspired grooves with a frantic Stoner Metal presence. There’s some small hints and illusion to the grand story in the upcoming album The Hex Of Penns Woods conveys where a vengeful Wizard takes revenge on the folks who have wronged him in the world. 

Almost Honest have the mighty power of famed underground label Argonauta Records behind them for the upcoming album and it may help Almost Honest to reach a greater audience within the Stoner Metal scene. The two tracks that I’ve heard so far are building up real excitement within the scene that will no doubt see Almost Honest impress a lot of folks when the album is released in November 2023.

Hollow World is the new album from Finnish Psych Doom/Stoner Rockers Orbiter who bring a sense of sludgy, down-tuned and fuzzy momentum to the album with a Grungy outlook within the more heavier moments of the record. With a creative outlook pointing towards such bands as Black Sabbath, Ruby The Hatchet, Monolord and Windhand. Orbiter do employ a LOW & SLOW style of music that works superbly well with the eerie and bewitching Grunge/Occult Rock vocals of lead vocalist Carolin. 

Opening track Hollow World is a slow-paced track with Orbiter playing a Post-Doom with slight Gothic twinges that elevates itself into other areas of Psych, Doom, Stoner and Grunge with the lyrics having a bleak sense of realism contained within. The instrumental work moves from 70's Heavy Doom to the more modern down-tuned and amplifier distorted grooves which allows the Sludge Rock/Metal sounds to fully take flight. The level of Sabbathian guitar reverb and Fuzz based aggression allows Orbiter to have a more Progressive sound you initially expect. The tone whilst aggressive and seedy is one that's quite warm-hearted at the same time.

Second track Beneath is full of 90's Classic Grunge attitude with a subtle Alt Rock/Metal creative flow bringing echoes of Nirvana, L7 and Soundgarden but retaining that bass heavy Doom/Stoner Rock drive. The tone of the album is quite Occult/Gloom based but it's that powerful blend of Melodic Hard Rock and Psychedelic Stoner energy along with Carolin's pitch-perfect vocals that really make this song take flight. There's some wicked Hard Rock guitar solos that burst out of the seams that suddenly end. Which is a shame as I was really starting to get into the swing of things with Orbiter starting to show their full creative side on the whole album.

Third track Kolibri is more of an instrumental psychedelic rock journey with minimal vocal chants that sees Oribter reside within the more Post-Rock or Post-Stoner way of life. It's an interesting track to include on the album that showcases a different side to Orbiter which they do explore more fully on the remainder of the album.

Fourth track Hollow World is a Post-Doom/Grunge/Stoner Rock odyssey with Orbiter structuring the song within different themes, tones, textures and melodies. Perhaps the most progressive sounding track on the album which uses a cool sounding SEMI-ACOUSTIC outline to hold both the full-on Stoner Metal grooves and Post-Rock aspects of this song. This is a track that has a beautifully emotionally charged centre at its core but on the other side there's a thrilling and bloody aggressive style of Doom/Stoner Metal that ranks some of the heaviest moments on the album. Orbiter undertake a more "riffier" approach which is where the impressive drumming and guitar solos make a mighty impression. Carolin's bluesy based vocals end the song on a more sombre and hopeful note.

Four tracks in and four tracks to go with Orbiter continue playing similar style of music with more Ambient and Sonic noises fully come into play on tracks such as Raven Bones, Transmissions and Last Call. There's more reliance on Swirling Psychedelics which allows the almost Gothic/Doom influences of Orbiter's music to shine mostly through the romantic lyricism that allows Carolin's vocals yet again to have such a powerful presence to them. The rest of Orbiter do their part by playing an exciting blend of nomadic based Psych Doom/Stoner Metal which has grabbed the attention of famed Italian Powerhouse label Argonauta Records who are releasing this album.

Hollow World has been produced by Hiili Hiilesmaa who has produced bands such as The 69 Eyes, Amorphis, Apocalyptica, HIM and Moonspell. The dude is a legend of the Finnish Hard Rock/Heavy Metal scene and he does a first rate job here. As the album sounds wickedly surreal and thrillingly heavy throughout. 

Overall, Hollow World is an emotionally charged release that sees ORBITER offering a unique and different sounding release at the same time.

"We are excited to share Cycle as the second single from our new album which drops in only a few weeks. This is one of the heavier songs on the album and it is really based on one simple riff throughout the song but with certain variations that kind of move in a cycle.

This song is about the big things which are totally outside of human control and about accepting that they are. No matter how hard we try to plan and secure and control our realities there is always so much we have no power over such as life, death, the forces of nature, coincidences, accidents, illness etc. Life feels like a cycle between beginnings and ends, order and chaos, joy and sorrow and so on and we just have to accept what we can´t control and try to not worry so much about what might happen, and the song tries to capture that feeling."

Orbiter singer and music video director Carolin Koss states this about the track.

"Silence Breaks is the opening track of our album, although it’s actually the very last track we wrote for it. We wanted to create a song that summarises the different elements and moods on the record, something exceptionally heavy yet fragile and sensual. I came up with the idea for the music video when I was walking home one dark and quiet autumn night, listening to the album fresh from the mixing and mastering on my headphones. While being on the move, the song somehow gives a strong empowering feeling, but on the other hand it also makes you stop and connect deeply with nature, yourself, and others. So I wanted to create a video that captures these sensations and depicts a communal journey and ritual."

Psychedelic Stoner Doomsters GREENGOAT Sign to Argonauta Records; “The Seed” Live Video now streaming

Greengoat is a Psychedelic Stoner/ Doom band from Madrid (Spain), that combines distortion and rhythmic progressions, with immersive sequences and onyric landscapes.

Formed in 2021, the band goes through changes in their ensemble until it consolidates as a duo with guitarist/singer Ivan Flores (Dsgarre, Magnus Ficus) and drummer Ruth "Kalypso" Moya (Suevicha, Dashara, Magnus Ficus).

Their sound moves between heavy fuzz and distortion, leaving space for harmonic passages, experimental sequences and strong rhythms with varied influences, going from bands as Ahab or Black Sabbath to very different ones as Pink Floyd.

Says the band: “We are honored and overjoyed to announce Greengoat´s signing with Argonauta Records for the release of our upcoming album. We have been lucky enough to enter this great family and amazing rooster with whom, we are sure, will be able to make our creations reach its finest. ARGONAUTA FESTIVAL 2023 / Belgium | Germany Has Been Announced.

After two years of anticipation, planning, and overcoming multiple postponements due to the global pandemic, the highly awaited Argonauta Festival is set to captivate audiences with an extraordinary showcase of musical prowess. Presented by Argonauta Records, the festival brings together a harmonious union of three exceptional bands for an unforgettable experience.

In a triumphant testament to the power of perseverance, the Argonauta Festival promises to deliver a riveting musical journey featuring three bands, each hailing from diverse corners of the metal spectrum. The festival's concept revolves around the convergence of these bands, all signed with Argonauta Records, performing two exclusive shows together.

Argonauta Fest Belgium is slated to transpire on Friday, November 17th, at the Asgaard in Ghent. The event is brought to life through the collaborative efforts of No Name Collective, Grimm Gent, Artifacts From The Tangent Universe, and Go To Eleven.

Says the band: "We are incredibly pleased to reveal all information about our full album together with Argonauta Records and Grand Sounds Promotion. It is a great pleasure to work with them! This announcement can not go without mentioning our cooperation with two guest vocalists with which we were incredibly happy to work with. The first one was Tabasco Esmee from Tyrant’s Kall, who is a dear friend of ours. We adore her and her ‘witch voice’, she has been exceptionally kind to us and we are very happy with the result of her singing on the already released single ‘Eyes Bleed Black’.

The second cooperation is with Michelle Nocon (Of Blood And Mercury, formerly from Bathsheba, Death Penalty and Serpent Cult). We’ve been fans of her for many years and asked her if she wanted to contribute a vocal line on the instrumental intermezzo ‘Barefoot On The Moon’ and let her totally free to give it her interpretation. The cover of the album was done by Vladimir Chebakov (who also worked with Sodom and Hideous Divinity amongst others) and is his interpretation of ‘The Morbidious One’ which represents ‘Death’ as a common thread through some of the lyrics on the album, without it being a concept album. New Jersey Heavy Rockers EGO PLANET Reveals Full Album Details And New Single “Butcher’s Blade” Now Streaming

After their recent signing with Italian label ARGONAUTA Records, US-based Heavy Rockers EGO PLANET released their impressive first single THE CALL, “the first Ego Planet song we finished writing back in 2020 as a pandemic ravaged the globe, protesters took to the streets to demand racial justice, and billionaires hoarded record amounts of wealth.” Says Jarrett (Vocalist/Lyricist) “I was being forced to face ugly truths on a daily basis and it was extremely uncomfortable. I found myself at times wanting to completely disengage from political issues and recede into my own world of comforting distractions. The song is about the allure of complacency and what it means to turn a blind eye while others fight for their right to exist.”

Italian Stoner/Sludgers FALLING GIANTS set September 30th as the international release date for their long-awaited debut full-length album Whirlwind Hymns!

The main idea behind Whirlwind Hymns is the gust of winds that scorch your soul, tearing apart every aspect of your life. When there’s no hope and your innermost part becomes a desert you will clash into despair in search of truths like giants of fog and you’ll feel part of a prophecy of ghosts. But hope, that psychic giant, like a crystal compelling us to meditate our fall. As soon as we meditate our lost world in the maze of being and nothingness we recognize the open as the Wind Shift. To say it with Wallace Stevens, “like a human without illusions, who still thinks irrational things within her.”, now we can grasp our woes and we can follow the Trails of dust men, whose words hurl and swirl in the wind towards us; words ready to be heard by all those are open hearted.

"We have searched the strength of the wind and its purifying lift. With the gains on, power amps howls destruction and sometimes the mind strives for peace." - says the band.

Band formed in the late summer of 2016 by the meeting of the three original members Rust (guitar and vocals), Frank (bass and vocals) and Briareo (drums). After a beginning devoted to the search for sounds between psychedelia and stoner, they then came to an ever greater mix of genres and sub-genres. The musical panorama of inspiration leads the components to seek, with difficulty, a sonic "compass" that ends in the Sludge. After a seminal demo released in January 2018, the line-up was then strengthened with a new member, Pest, on guitar, who further developed the already complex sound. The experimental attempt with the new member adds extreme influences (Death, Black and Gothic) making the overall aim more ambitious. 

In addition to the great inspirers of the aforementioned genres, the band adopts an approach to composition typical of other styles such as Post-Rock/Metal/Hardcore, Atmospheric and Prog. This continuous work finds an outlet in the production of the Ep "Enter the Abyss" which consolidates the mix of Sludge, Doom, Black, Stoner and Neopsichedelia. The band then produced a Split album with the band from Vasto "Grodek" entitled "Highwaymen at the Vesper" released in 2020. Due to the global pandemic and working delays, the band only got to record its first album in early 2022 and soon to be released under the title of “Whirlwind Hymns”. In the last months of 2022, guitarist Pest left the band for personal reasons and to better concentrate on his Black Metal project (Goat Vomit Noise). In early 2023 he took over on guitar Apsychos in the Falling Giants and who also plays in the Necandi Homines, Infernal Angels and was a session player for the Selvans.

Norwegian Psychedelic Doomsters SUPERLYNX Reveal Full Album Details; “4 10” Out In September

Norway-based Psychedelic Doomsters SUPERLYNX celebrate their 10th anniversary by releasing new music, a new additional member and the return to stage. The band recently teased their new journey with the single “Into the Sun”, which is “a song suited for closing your eyes and drifting away” says the band.

The new album is entitled “4 10” and it is written and played by the original trio Pia, Ole and Daniel as usual, but since the recording the band has expanded by including additional guitarist Espen Krøll. He will join the band on stage from now on for an even fuller live sound.

“Jamming has always been important to us in addition to songwriting”. Superlynx says “This time all the music on the album was created through jamming sessions where the music that came out lead the way and turned into these songs. The entire album was recorded in the rehearsal space where we started out a decade ago, by our drummer Ole Teigen / Crowtown Recordings. The focus on 4 10 is imagination, dreams, connection and an open view. Today we further explore fuzzed out heavy psych, improvisation and the depths of dreams and surrealism”.

When Superlynx is asked about musical influences the answer is something like “the sum of all the different music we all listen to and are inspired by, be it doom, drone, psych, shoegaze, desert rock, grunge, metal, old blues, jazz, 60/70s rock”.

The members have a lot of music in common but also different influences. It is all a part of them, and something that naturally affects their own style of playing. Superlynx follows no rules except what sounds and feels right, and lets the music lead their way.

Italian Psychedelic Stoner Rockers DESERT WAVE sign to ARGONAUTA RECORDS; “Deafening Silence” Vinyl Edition out in November

DESERT WAVE was formed in 2016, when Drugo (drums) and Logan (bass) were already playing in a Doom Metal band to then they decided to break away and form their own that had a psychedelic/stonerstyle. After placing an ad looking for a guitarist, Burton immediately showed up and the musical understanding started right away. Their musical influences on the other hand were quite similar, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, 70's hard rock, Seattle grunge, up to the granite desert sound of Kyuss.

With "Deafening Silence" they wanted a more psychedelic sound than their 2017 debut “Lost in Dunes”, much more like the long jam sessions played in the rehearsal room. And after its release in November 2022, the album received an high praise both from public and critics, with top reviews and positive feedback within the whole community.

The songs were born during the pandemic. In Italy it was something that deeply marked the band. Like everyone else, they spent several weeks at home, while the empty streets generated a ghostly and disturbing silence. Even Logan's lyrics are a bit dark and gloomy and on "Endless Night," Logan's voice carries that ghostly presence that loomed over us all. Drugo designed the cover and the artwork, as a tribute to Blade Runner movies. In both films, as in the songs on the album, there was the same feeling of foreboding that hovered in a dystopian future, in which not all the answers are clear and many questions are still unanswered. Burton's powerful guitar riffs echo in this unreal silence, sometimes increasing the sense of restlessness, other times instead, in the more psychedelic parts, they create a crescendo of impotence and inevitability that totally invades you and from which you cannot escape.

“Deafening Silence” will be re-released on Colored Vinyl Edition by ARGONAUTA Records, featuring two exclusive bonus tracks and available on November 10th, 2023
