Mean Green is a three-piece sludge outfit with all the subtlety of a rusted-out square body with glass packs - and the fortitude of a rabid opossum in heat. Armed with riffs as thick as a bowl of cold grits, the band blends crushing sludge, classic rock swagger, and raw Southern grime into a live show built to hit hard and leave a lasting mark.
Mean Green released their self-titled debut album to wide acclaim in 2023, and are proud to present their sophomore LP, “Castle”.
Fusing the crushing weight of High on Fire and Sleep with the gritty, blues-soaked swagger of ’70s rock acts like Foghat, Cactus, and Cream, Mean Green deliver the heavy goods on “Castle”.
Leading the charge is single "Wasteland", a ripper of a track where crushing tone and gravel-chewing vocals set the foundation for a dark, psychedelic journey. Notes guitarist and vocalist Jake Helms, “I wrote this when I was tripping on acid watching 2001 a space odyssey on a broken tv with no volume".
Get lost in the Wasteland on July 23rd and get stoked for the full album "Castle" out August 14th.
Second single "Employee Of The Month" drops Friday, July 31st.
Mean Green will also be headlining the Wicked Doom Festival August 29th in Worcester, Massachusetts alongside Sundrifter, Worshipper, Üga Büga, and more.

Argonauta Records proudly welcomes back Sons of Ghidorah, the cosmic heavy rock force formed in 2014, who today announce their long awaited return with a brand new album currently in the works. To mark this powerful new chapter, the band has released their explosive new single and official video “Raining Fire”, available now:
Since their formation, Sons of Ghidorah have carved out a distinctive sonic identity, wandering the galaxies and shaping a dynamic and uncompromising sound that blends the crushing weight of doom, the fuzz driven energy of stoner rock, the raw attitude of punk and the massive impact of heavy rock. Their music channels cosmic atmospheres, relentless riffs and intense rhythmic drive, forging a sound both immersive and devastating.
At the core of the band stand the psychic cosmonauts Mark Giuliano, Christopher Konys and Michael Lillard, now joined by fellow space travelers Greg Fenlong on guitar and Lou Barrese on lead guitar. Together, the expanded lineup pushes Sons of Ghidorah’s sound into even heavier and more powerful territory, delivering a renewed creative vision and an overwhelming sonic experience.
“Raining Fire” offers a first glimpse into the band’s upcoming material, showcasing thunderous grooves, towering walls of distortion and a relentless cosmic energy that defines their evolving musical direction. The track stands as a bold statement of intent, reaffirming Sons of Ghidorah’s commitment to crafting unique and powerful heavy music.
Further details about the forthcoming album will be revealed soon.
Having recently signed with Argonauta Records, Portland, Oregon’s BREATH release “AWEN”. The first single and official music video from their much-anticipated new album BRAHMAN, releasing this Fall.
Watch the video below:
The beginnings of Breath can be traced back to childhood friends Steven O’Kelly and Ian Caton. Their bond allowed a drive of songwriting and spiritual seeking to coalesce into a unique foundation that continues to evolve. It's losing themselves in the woods or meditation, and transmuting those experiences into the vibrational space their musical fingerprint holds. Longtime Breath collaborator and engineer Rob Wrong (Witch Mountain & The Skull) was quickly inspired by their new release BRAHMAN, writing and performing guitar for the entirety of their album. Along with Guitar came Keys, which further elevated the sound with the addition of Lauren Hatch.
In the fertile environment of new instrumentation, “AWEN” expands the boundaries of Breath to new places.
The band comments:
“Crawling out from their hermitage, the Druid begins anew in rays shone through the prism of AWEN. Harnessing the addition of guitar, we seek to translate the immutable voice of Mother Nature calling from depths of emerald sanctuary. A song honoring the unspoken confluence, and creative spark between Bard and woods. AWEN binds the overarching metaphysical spirit of our new album BRAHMAN with transformation lifted on the wings of the Morrigan. AWEN emerges in the light of this Goddess, and the transitory half Moon on July 17th .”
Stay tuned for more details on BRAHMAN, coming this Fall on Argonauta Records.
Italian Stoner Grunge Rockers BOZOO have inked a deal with Argonauta Records for their self-titled debut, to be released in Autumn.
Today the band release their new single "Skizzen" which you can listen to below:
Founded in 2019, Bozoo is an Italian stoner band that represents the intersection of the musical minds of Marco Benedetti, Francesco Bardelli, and Alessandro Lucarini, determined to carve out their space in the music scene. Over the years, the group has defined its characteristics with the goal of creating uncompromising music, drawing inspiration from the genre's roots.
Bozoo's music is a fusion of influences, where classic stoner seamlessly blends with acid grunge and alternative rock, giving life to a harmonious exploration and a sound that reflects the raw and authentic essence of the movement. Heavy riffs, sharp bass lines, and powerful drums form the foundation of a sonic experience that unfolds without frills. Bozoo's live performances are characterized by evident energy. On stage, the group fully immerses itself in its music, conveying an authenticity that resonates with the audience. There's no room for artifice or embellishments—only the music and the pure essence of the live performance.
Their previous EP, "Three Heads," is representative of the band's initial studio production phase. Each track has been meticulously crafted to capture the dreamlike essence of the group, providing a direct dive into the heart of their creativity. The new album, self-titled "Bozoo," breaks away from the dreamy concept of the first, offering a unique and powerful experience.
The band aims to pull the listener into a sharp and unforgettable sonic journey, where the strength of the riffs blends with the ruthlessness of emotions. With roots firmly planted in the sound culture, Bozoo is ready to assert its presence on both national and international levels. Listening to Bozoo is an authentic and unapologetic experience, a total immersion into the true essence of stoner rock.
Norwegian desert rockers SLOMOSA have finally revealed new details about their forthcoming, sophomore studio album! Slated for release on September 13, 2024 via Stickman Records, "Tundra Rock" will see the Bergen-based four-piece double down on all expectations!
Following previously-released, much acclaimed album tracks, "Cabin Fever" and "Rice", SLOMOSA have just premiered a music video for their new single "Battling Guns", a stoner rock track featuring gritty riffs and powerful vocals! Says vocalist and guitarist Benjamin Berdous:
“This song shows a grungier side to our songwriting, as we wanted to add something new to our catalog. As history repeats itself, their triumphs are cheap and their followers are sheep. The song symbolizes the disbelief and anger at this development.”
"Battling Guns" is now streaming on all digital services at
SLOMOSA were formed in Bergen in 2017. Driven by their passion for catchy songwriting and groovy riffs, the band has embarked on a unique journey that blends stoner rock, grunge and hardcore into their signature blend, dubbed "tundra rock"; a northern twist on California desert rock.
Since their sudden appearance on the scene with the self-titled debut album in 2020, SLOMOSA have hit the ground running with frenetically-acclaimed festival appearances and relentless tours with more than 130 shows in twenty countries alongside bands such as Orange Goblin, Elder, King Buffalo, Sasquatch or Stöner.
Their explosive live performances have earned them an enthusiastic fanbase, both nationally and internationally.SLOMOSA's music has even captured the attention of rock greats like Tool guitarist Adam Jones, who recently shared his enthusiasm for the band on his social media, or Kyuss legends Brant Bjork and Nick Oliveri, who have expressed their love for SLOMOSA's sound and riffs. With a steadily growing fanbase from all over the world, more than 10.000,000 Spotify streams alone, a busy touring schedule featuring recent shows with heavy weights Fu Manchu in Oslo or UK dates with Alkaline Trio, an upcoming European run with GREENLEAF and their first-ever live appearance in the States supporting ALKALINE TRIO, the future is definitely bright for the band between the seven mountains. Find all upcoming live shows listed below!
On top of continuous touring, SLOMOSA has been channeling all their creative energy into their second, hotly-anticpated studio offering "Tundra Rock", scheduled for a September release on Stickman Records. The nine album tracks were produced by Eirik Marinius Sandvik at Polyfon Studio and Marinius Studio, and were mastered by Jørgen Træen. The cover artwork was created by Elsa Enestig.
Vast Pyre - German Stoner/Doom band signs with Octopus Rising to release their debut full-length album.
The band comments about the signing: "Folks, we're super stoked to unbolt the crate and ignite our very first outcome in cooperation with ARGONAUTA/OCTOPUS RISING. It's great news to have found a partner with whom we feel in good hands. We're looking forward to the future as a band and the partnership as well. BEHOLD THE NIGHTTIME."
Today also marks the release of a new single as a huge appetizer for the coming album. The track's title is "Focus Deceased," now available here:
In the end of 2021 Försti (guitar) and Wally (drums, vocals) were in the mood and got together to jam some Stoner/Doom tunes from Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, Sleep etc. and hanging out from time to time. Genre-specific, they knew what they wanted. After some sessions and finding the right sound, they concentrated on writing their own songs - a few ideas got discarded. Bit by bit, they extended their backline/equipment in the rehearsal room, because they needed to add more low-end to the guitar. In the end, there was a huge backline that drove their sound and they decided to not put in any bass-guitar as an instrument separately: they just wanted to make "guitar-only" music.
Later, their friend Jonny (lead guitar) joined the band at the end of 2022. Henceforth, the songs were rearranged and fine tuned. In August 2023 Vast Pyre opened for the Festival "Burgbrand Open Air" and shared the stage with bands like EREMIT and INDIAN NIGHTMARE, to name just a few. That should be the only concert they played that year, because first they wanted to record/mix their stuff, what they eventually did from November 2023 to February this year.
London-based Doom Trio OLD HORN TOOTH Usher in New Album and Single MOURNING LIGHT
Last heard slinging low slung fuzzed-out doom on their 2019 album, From The Ghost Grey Depths, this July will see the official worldwide release of Mourning Light, the brand-new studio album from London-based trio, Old Horn Tooth.
For any fans of the genre that have stalked the capital in recent years, chances are London Doom Collective has supplied you with ample opportunity to sample some of the finest underground bands in a live setting. Since 2020 – Ollie, Chris Jones, Mark Davidson, and Sean Durbin – have flexed their DIY muscle as friends, promoters, and three-quarter members of Old Horn Tooth to devastating effect. Now, with the band’s new album on the horizon, they finally turn their hand toward a new endeavour, releasing music on vinyl.
“Putting out a record ourselves through London Doom Collective is our own personal statement of independence,” explains bassist, Ollie Isaac. “It’s a testament to the power of the underground and a direct connection with the scene, people and international doom community that has supported, guided and helped us grow.”
Often drawing comparisons to the likes of Conan and Monolord, Old Horn Tooth are a stirring colossus that offer up hypnotic, megaton grooves of slow heavy riffage in thrall to the cosmos. As Outlaws of the Sun describe, “You can’t but help being swept by the sheer heaviness and excitement of it all.”
New single and the title track for Mourning Light is a perfect case in point. Serving as an epic fifteen-minute jaunt into the sinister undertones of doom it’s the centrepiece to a startling collection of new songs. All of which navigate the complexities of grief and the resilience of the human spirit.
“This particular song explores the bittersweet memories and hidden sadness accompanying loss, while also offering glimpses of potential hope in the ‘mourning light’. Through its journey from bleak despair to the final acceptance, it encapsulates a shared sorrow and solace in vulnerability.”
Due for release on 5th July 2024, Mourning Light can be pre-ordered via London Doom Collective here. The album will also be accompanied by the release of a limited-edition tape from Norway’s Evil Noise Recordings (here) and an exclusive beer in collaboration with Black Iris Brewery (here).
South African alternative collective Filthy Hippies, known for their fusion of psychedelic and shoegaze influences, have just released their latest single and accompanying video, Dual. The track is a taste of what fans can expect from their forthcoming album, Share The Pill, set for release on the 5th July via Mongrel Records.
Since forming in 2018, Filthy Hippies have been at the forefront of the burgeoning South African psych scene. Their distinct sound, which can be described as a Phil Spector-esque wall of sound merged with deep-rooted pop inflections, has garnered them a loyal following and secured their status as one of the scene's most exciting acts.
Over the years, Filthy Hippies have experienced various personnel changes, evolving into a five-piece lineup that retains the original trio's core. This new configuration brings fresh energy and innovative perspectives to the band's already dynamic sound.
Watch the video for DUAL below
Dual showcases the band's musical growth and creativity, blending intricate guitar riffs, lush melodies, and dreamlike vocals. The single is accompanied by a visually striking video that mirrors the song's otherworldly atmosphere and delivers a mesmerizing viewing experience.
Reflecting on the band's journey, Filthy Hippies have shared stages with notable acts such as the post-punk band Dangerfield during their album launch and have been featured at major events like 2019's Endless Daze Festival. Share The Pill is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated albums in the South African psych scene this year.
Austin heavy psychedelic and Americana purveyors LORD BUFFALO release the first single & video from their forthcoming album "Holus Bolus", to be released on July 12th through Bliues Funeral Recordings.
Lord Buffalo is heavy in the way that ghosts are heavy… in the way that billowing dust is heavy. That is to say, the Austin, TX Psych-Americana band’s music impacts hard, though it seems impossible to touch. Their sound flows through us, it doesn’t invite the Pavlovian response of typical heavy rock music.
Perhaps it’s fitting that their new album "Holus Bolus" takes its name from an antiquated term meaning “all at once.” It materializes instantly from the first opening notes, a grey haze drawing listeners in with deft juxtapositions of droning violin, guitars, drums and vocals.
While the quartet wades into the same murky waters as dark emotive brethren Wovenhand, All Them Witches, Chelsea Wolfe, Emma Ruth Rundle, Earth, Echo & The Bunnymen, Nick Cave, the creative interplay of Middle Eastern influences and Western folk Americana takes the record in its own enveloping, meditative direction. Embarking on a sleep-deprived road trance through High Plains iconography, "Holus Bolus" is bleak yet hopeful, a mix that is by now Lord Buffalo's established custom blend.
"Holus Bolus" was recorded by Danny Reisch and Max Lorenzen at Good Danny's in Lockhart, TX, mixed by Danny Reisch and mastered by Max Lorenzen. It will be available in vinyl, CD and digital format on July 12th, with preorders available now through Blues Funeral Recordings.
LORD BUFFALO "Holus Bolus"
Out July 12th on Blues Funeral Recordings (LP/CD/digital)
Exporting the haunting heavy folk of their 2020 full-length "Tohu Wa Bohu" across North America, Lord Buffalo toured as direct support for Elder in the fall of 2023, and previously for England's Church of the Cosmic Skull. They've performed at Psycho Las Vegas (twice), the inaugural Monolith on the Mesa, Ripplefest Texas and more.
NPR Music described Lord Buffalo as, "known for their atmospheric spin on folk-rock, at times sounding like the Anthology of American Folk Music beamed from outer space." The Austin Chronicle called Tohu Wa Bohu, "a dusky, moody, roots-quaking disc of tension and release," and PopMatters summarized the music as, "haunting, American Gothic-inspired lyrical poetry, a torch to light our collective way in times of darkness."
LORD BUFFALO is:
Daniel Pruitt - guitar, bass, piano, vocals, melodica Garrett Hellman - guitar, sub-bass, piano, synths Patrick Patterson - violin Yamal Said - drums, percussion
The second album by the Barcelona-based band Maragda will be titled 'Tyrants' and will be released on May 8, 2024, via Spinda Records - pre-orders are now available.
After teasing the title track last month, today they unveil a double single comprising the songs "Skirmish" and "My only link", presenting them in both studio and live versions, with the latter extracted from the live session they recently recorded at Siete Barbas Estudios.
Melodies, atmospheres, compositions of great complexity, and a garage attitude are the main components of 'Tyrants'.
This way, Maragda continues to unveil this highly anticipated album, which serves as a follow-up to their successful self-titled debut album (2021, Spinda Records) and the live EP "The Reckless / Evil Seed" (2022, Spinda Records). In this new musical journey, the band immerses listeners in introspective themes ranging from self-imposed limitations to the fight for values, love, hope, and farewells. All of this unfolds in a hypothetical fantasy universe, where psychedelia and progressive rock continuously merge, adding nuances of other styles like garage.
For the creation of the album "Tyrants", Maragda embarked on a creative journey that took them to the Big Snuff Studios in Berlin, where they collaborated with studio engineer Richard Behrens, renowned for his work with bands like Kadavar and Elder. Subsequently, the mastering was handled by acclaimed engineer Peter Deimel (known for his work with bands like Motorpsycho) at the Black Box Studios in France, solidifying a successful collaboration that began with their debut album.
In the visual department, the band has once again partnered with Error! Design studio (known for works with Explosions In The Sky, Russian Circles, Mastodon) for the album's graphic design, ensuring a cohesive and captivating aesthetic experience for their followers.

Following their recent signing with the Italian label ARGONAUTA Records, German pioneers of Stoner Rock TRANSONIC SCIENCE are excited to reveal the first extract of their highly anticipated come-back album.
The new single “Fear of God” is about an angel who rebelled against God and was therefore abandoned by God. Realising his darkness - due to God's lack of love - he turns to God again and asks for forgiveness. But God rejects him and makes him suffer.
The band says: "The sound is nasty, the vibe of the song is raw emotion. Two opposing parts create tension and lead to a final part that seems soothing at first, only to erupt into a furious finale. It was one of the last tracks written for 'psychobulb' and became the ideal opening track for the album, introducing the listener to an intense sonic and lyrical landscape".
Give ear below:
In 2020, after having fronted several challenges, Transonic Science geared up for their upcoming LP “Psychobulb,” whose further details will be revealed soon. This album showcases their evolution, blending high-energy Rock with Heavy Psych, Grunge elements, and Psychedelic interludes. Transonic Science promises an electrifying experience, channeling raw energy into their music. “Psychobulb” encapsulates the band’s collective experiences, inviting listeners back into the world of Heavy Rock underground, where authenticity, energy, and emotion reign supreme.
After the self-released debut album Modul I (2022), the second album titled Lost In Kelp Forest will be released on February 23rd, 2024 on Tonzonen Records. Today the trio shares the first single Silent Echoes!
Lost In Kelp Forest is a concept album that doesn't take place in the vastness of space like its predecessor, but rather in an underwater world. The six mainly instrumental pieces are accompanied by narrator voices, which reveal a coherent fictional story on a dense atmospheric carpet of sound. The voices were professionally recorded by Alma Chomel from France and Shane Wilson from the USA.
As a foundation, the triumvirate, formed by a classic line-up of guitar, bass and drums, thunders a mix of space, stoner and progressive rock onto the stage, which is occasionally supplemented by synthesizers, sound and voice samples. Dreamy, atmospheric passages combined with colossal riffs will often lead to an epic melodic zenith of voluminous, warm sounds, over which gentle to fast guitar solos are released.
The compositions use a large modal palette and versatile harmonies that are intended to continually surprise the listener and at the same time follow a driving, natural and catchy rhythm. Lost In Kelp Forest has a very high level of attention to detail and should remain exciting even after repeated listening.
The band's inspiration for this album was genre-typical greats like Elder, King Buffalo, more progressive bands like Dream Theaternand elements from Hans Zimmer's film music. The idea using a spoken word on top of the music was inspired by the albums Eyes Like The Sky and Murderer Of The Universe by King Gizzard & Lizard Wizard. Lost In Kelp Forest was recorded in August 2023 in the legendary Tonmeisterei in Oldenburg, Germany.
The entire album was recorded in just six long days. The band was housed in the studio for the entire recording process, which created a unique atmosphere during the recording process. The first tracks (Emerald Maze and Silent Echoes) were written shortly after the release of the first album in spring 2022 and set the basic mood of the album. The remaining pieces were completed by summer 2023.
Detroit blackened doom trio TEMPLE OF THE FUZZ WITCH just signed to Ripple Music for the release of their third full-length "Apotheosis" on April 5th, and unleash their towering new single "Ashes" on all streaming platforms.
With riffs and lyrics as bleak and crushing as a Michigan winter, blackened doom outfit Temple of the Fuzz Witch brings a unique take on the doom genre, their unwaveringly nightmarish sonic processions being raised to another level with frontman Noah Bruner's jaw-dropping balance of crypt-worthy growls and astoundingly grunge-styled clean vocals. Never the darkness has felt so magnificent and compelling, and their aptly-titled third album "Apotheosis" has everything to put the mighty trio on every black and doom metal fan's radar for years to come.
Descend in the bleakness of TOTFW's new single "Ashes"
Launched in 2017 with a 3-track EP, the Detroit three-piece has successively released two albums: "Temple of the Fuzz Witch" (2019) and "Red Tide" (2020). Temple of the Fuzz Witch is now set to unleash the beauty of its unique occult-driven nihilism with "Apotheosis". The album was recorded and mixed by Pete Grossman at Bricktop Recording, and mastered by Chris Fielding at Skyhammer Studio. Its artwork was created by Sarah Fazriah and Zoro (Mysteriousfour).
About the album, the band says: “The lyrics and concept are more overt and less cryptic than the previous Temple releases. Everything is bigger, heavier, and darker. Rather than making just another doom record, we wanted to do something that stepped outside of the box a little bit. Established fans will still find catchy riffs that are staples of doom but will be surprised with some new twists on the genre, with the introduction of blackened vocals and some more up-tempo tracks. Lyrically, the album is deeply rooted in the esoteric and spiritual. We came with a very introspective mindset, and each of us was able to add a little bit of our soul to it. When people hear the lyrics and music together, they will find something fresh but dark to connect with.”
