Sydney psychedelic heavy rock trio Robot God return with their powerful new single "Curse of the Driven", available on all major streaming platforms from July 17.

Serving as the title track from the band's forthcoming album of the same name, Curse of the Driven is the next chapter following the acclaimed release of Onto the Afterlife. The new single pushes Robot God's signature blend of crushing stoner grooves, expansive psychedelic textures and hypnotic riffs into even darker territory, exploring the restless pursuit that drives us forward even when the road ahead is uncertain.

Accompanying the release is an official studio performance video, filmed during the band's recording sessions at The Grove Studios in September 2025. Rather than a traditional music video, the footage captures Robot God in their natural habitat, documenting the energy, chemistry and raw power behind the creation of the track.

To celebrate the release, Robot God will take the new single on the road for a quick run of east coast shows, followed by a tour in Japan before heading home for a bunch of shows in Sydney/Wollongong and Melbourne.

Review

Psych/Doom/Stoner Rockers Robot God return with their latest sonic conquest Onto The Afterlife after the two critically acclaimed albums (Portal WIthin and Subconscious Awakening) in 2024. This album continues the Psychedelic and Space Rock trajectory of those albums but with a more confident Grunge, Blues and Sludge Rock attitude. The band are also releasing another album called Curse Of The Driven to be released later this year and this is perhaps the first part of a much more expanded story.

Creative cues from the likes of Black Sabbath, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, MONOLORD and KYUSS are just some of the bands you can hear throughout this album. However, Robot God are wise enough to formulate their own plans of Sonic Distortion which comes into life on the excellent opening track Soldier Of Love which pairs up the legendary SABBATHIAN heavy DOOMED OUT sound with the murky grunge attitude of Soundgarden. The level of overlapping psychedelic melodies and grounded vocals opens Robot God to new areas of seedy heaviness with a great level of mass distortion emitting from all corners.

There’s a slight dependency on Prog Metal and Proto-Metal which gives a surreal creative attitude which could even allow Robot God to move over to the Post-Stoner Metal brotherhood where the likes of ELDER and KING BUFFALO reign supreme. The influx of Ambient sounds and Post-Rock passages comes across superbly well on tracks Onto The Afterlife and Cerebral Annihilation with that gloomy “APOCALYPTIC” approach holding everything together.

The dual vocals from Matt Allen and Raff Iacurto work superbly well together and even against each other when they’re both trying to battle for vocal supremacy within the band. Robot God adds some thrilling use of intricate Psychedelic sound effects and Space Rock loops that allows the album to drift into heavier pastures.

Onto The Afterlife becomes vastly more creative within the second half as Robot God experiments even further with distorted fragments and down-tuned grooves on tracks such as Cerebral Annihilation, I Am The Night and Long Goodbye. Despite the fantastical element of the music, the album can be quite real with Robot God writing some killer socially aware lyrics that puts the record on a more subversive level with real intelligence appearing from start to finish.

Robot God have once again delivered the goods with Onto The Afterlife which perhaps leaves a few questions unanswered which maybe fully answered when their next album Curse Of The Driven is released in the second half of the year.

Sydney heavy psychedelic rock force Robot God announce the release of their long awaited new album Onto the Afterlife, arriving May 1st. Review

Aussie Psychedelic Prog Stoner Rockers Robot God return with Worlds Collide that ventures across the Spaced Out Doom Cosmos with absolute creative authority. This is quite a sombre album in places and even though it shares similar themes with their debut release SIlver Buddha Dreaming, Robot God sound like a band reborn and more comfortable with their Psychedelic and Space Rock surroundings.

Tapping into the dreamy landscapes of Earthless, Elder and perhaps even King Buffalo, the band delves further into the arena of 70's Prog Rock and 90's Stoner Metal. The vocals have an eerie sadness behind them especially on the excellent opening track Sleepwalking. The riffs are played at a slow pace and only hint at the heavier moments of Stoner Rock that awaits the listener towards the later stages of the song. Extended guitar jams are layered under heavy AMPLIFIER progressive guitars with Robot God on magical and inspired form. The song has a cinematic feel to it all and allows the band plenty of time to play different strands of Heavy Psychedelic Rock that feels quite gloomy and solitary in places.

Second song Ready To Launch sees Robot God having less time to play compared to the epic opening song. The music offers a similar approach but with more creative flair. Robot God takes an interesting approach with the vocals that borders on storytelling mode. The Post-Rock/Post-Stoner flow is unsettling and that’s down to the early sublime lyrics that may be inspired by passages from legendary science fiction book DUNE. Well I did hear the word SPICE and it’s been years since I've read the book. The music takes a faster approach and sees the band play some of the finest riffs on this part of the album. Subtle Psychedelic and Ambient sounds playing within the background are an interesting choice. This is perhaps my favoruite track on the whole album. 

The final two songs Boogie Man and Worlds Collide take a more experimental path with Robot God using electronica beats that work really well with their style of Psychedelic Stoner Rock especially on Boogie Man. These two tracks offer over twenty two minutes of dynamite Progressive Rock/Metal riffage within the compounds of Doom/Stoner Rock. The guys seem to be having the most fun on this part of the album with the heaviest moments being heard right here.

Robot God feel they come of age with Worlds Collide. As this is their most mature work yet and most definitely their most confident. Spellbinding production values align perfectly to Robot God’s creative vision with riffs and ambient noises galore for your listening pleasure. 

Worlds Collide is an album that lives up to its title with Robot God exploring many different elements of Psychedelic Stoner Rock/Metal and leaving a mighty fine impression for the underground scene to fully take notice of this great band.
