Review

Italian Psych Stoner Rockers – KAVOD – debut EP Wheel Of Time is a 15 minute doomed out odyssey where the riffs are hazy and with a heavy nightmarish edge. Inspired by bands such as SLEEP, OM, UFOMAMMUT and even Tool especially where the vocals are concerned.

Wheel Of Time is an audio and drugged out delight with huge waves of Psychedelic Stoner Rock with a Drone based atmosphere holding everything together. The vocals are mainly chant based with the lyrics being very hard to understand. However it’s the music that draws you in especially on the excellent songs Absolution and Mahatma.

KAVOD are a band that plays a wide range of different styles on this album and you still don’t know what genre of music they’re currently playing. As they include elements of so many different genres, Prog Rock, Psych Rock, Drone, Stoner and Doom Metal. The end result is always a captivating and heavy sound that does remind of early UFOMAMMUT in places but with the more Droned out sounds of OM suddenly appearing from nowhere.

Wheel Of Time is a richly progressive and highly experimental EP that takes you on a different journey with every subsequent listening of the EP. The only downside is that the EP is on too damn short. You fully start to immerse yourself with KAVOD’s rich progressive sounds and the EP sadly ends.

I do want to hear more from KAVOD and I’m hoping a full length record isn’t too far behind or a longer EP. KAVOD show real genuine promise on this EP and I will be keeping a close eye on these guys in the future. These guys are worth checking out and are definitely worth your time.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
