Review

Beaten By Hippies debut album is an action packed nostalgia trip into 90s Grunge and Stoner Metal with the band providing the perfect soundtrack for anyone looking for a journey back in time. Though the band do add add vibes of Sludge Rock on certain parts of the album.

Beaten By Hippies are a highly confident bunch and the songs contained on the album reflect that showing the band’s love for all things LOUD and HEAVY. The album gets off to the perfect start with the turbo charged opening song – Velvet Hills – which sees Beaten By Hippies play a fast-paced style of Noise Rock, Grunge, Psych and Stoner Metal. The 90s Alternative sound runs deep through this song and is catchy as hell.

Second song – Space Tail – has elements of Monster Magnet Stoner riffage driving the heavy sounds home. The bombastic vocals add a groovier element to their music and when the band start adding 70s Hard Rock riffs then you begin to appreciate how Beaten By Hippies try to do something different with the standard template of Stoner Rock/Metal.

Beaten By Hippies then change direction with their music by adding a more gloomier and seedier vibe to their music especially on songs such as Blue Rose and Rock’n’Roll where you can tell this band is not to be FUCKED with.

The rest of the album finds Beaten By Hippies carrying on their aggressive style of Grunge/Doom/Stoner Metal that moves effortlessly between 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s Hard Rock/Metal. Other cool songs to check out are: Beaten By Hippies, Breathe Slow, Carbon and Tomahawk.

Beaten By Hippies debut album is a thrilling success on all levels and will appeal to just about everyone who is a fan of Hard Rock music in general. The album has something for everyone and that’s a very hard thing to pull off especially for your debut album. However, Beaten By Hippies have accomplished this by releasing a brilliantly entertaining album that demands your full attention.
