Review

Redshift City is the highly anticipated new album from Thermate and offers a blast of Psych Doom/Stoner Metal with heavy strands of Fuzz Rock as well. The album has a classic and vintage sound throughout the entire album. This allows Thermate to play a highly addictive blend of classic rock/metal sounds and modern sounding Doom/Stoner Metal vibe.

Opening song - Eyes Of Jupiter - has a slight trippy and spaced out theme that sees Thermate playing heavy distorted instrumental Doomed Our Sounds before Arthur’s vocals come screaming in. Thermate play music that will appeal to fans of Black Sabbath, KYUSS, Red Fang and Monster Magnet. It's not the most original of sounds but Thermate do offer a more refreshing style of Psychedelic Doom/Stoner Metal and that's perhaps down to the warm FUZZ ROCK vibes the band use within their music. Eyes Of Jupiter has a progressive feel to it as the song runs past the eight-minute mark.

Second song - Godspeed - opens with a Truckfighters FUZZ Rock style groove but with the emphasis on a more trippy sound. The vocals feel inspired by the nineties Stoner Rock/Metal scene and perhaps even the Heavy Metal scene as well. The song has a cool reflective mood with dark lyrics to match. The music is the strongest part yet again with intelligent music holding everything together. The soulful and classic Stoner Metal/Fuzz Rock hybrid sounds soon give way to a darker style of music with heavy distorted guitars appearing towards the end of the song. This is another wonderful and progressive song that ranks as one of the best songs on the album.

Third song - Soliloquy - is a space rock odyssey that feels inspired by Monster Magnet especially with the spaced out lyrics the band have written for this song. Add the progressive based Fuzz/Stoner Metal riffs that Thermate play for pure fun and it's hard not to be moved by it all.

Fourth song - Kaleidoscope - is a darker and experimental song compared to the other songs on the album. As it has quite a gloomy and semi-acoustic feel that does take time to fully get moving from A to B. Though it's still a very cool song to hear and to experience a more mature sound from Thermate.

The final two songs Greener Pastures and 100 Years sees Thermate return to their normal style of Psychedelic Doom/Stoner Metal with even heavier riffs being performed by the band. 100 Years is perhaps the best song held on the album with Thermate keeping the listener entertained with a thrilling and superbly written nine-minute song that leaves you wanting more.

The production on Thermate is first rate throughout and only elevates Thermate's overall sound to greater heights. Redshift City is being released by Argonauta Records and they have a stellar reputation themselves in releasing high quality Doom/Stoner Metal albums. So you know this album is going to be good.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
