Review

Oh Death is the new album from Norwegian Doom/Stoner Rockers Messerschmitt. Ther album is a snarling punk mix of Blackened Groomes held in a warm embrace of Doom/Stoner Rock vibes. The album runs for under thirty moments and the DIY Production Values do take time to fully get used to but there’s a great style of rebellious “IN-YER-FACE” punkish heavy sounds that do remind myself of Presidents Of The USA especially on the opening song Gummo Ain’t For Nothing.

The album really moves up a gear on the kick-ass second track “If You See Mee, Weep” with the band bringing a pounding Fuzz/Psych Rock score to the album. This song got me fully on board with Messerschmitt and what they’re trying to accomplish with this album. Punchy sludgy vibes a Street-Punk outlook but still maintaining that Doom/Stoner Rock atmosphere.

Oh Death does have a sinister vibe all the way through but it’s still massive amounts of fun with the band enjoying their musically creative backdrop to fully live upto their Punk Rock influences. Yes, the production could have been better but a lot of heart and soul has been put into this record with cool songs Ave Santini (Blood, We Want Blood) doing a fine example of embracing a more Black’N’Roll style of music with the band playing one of the best songs on the record.

Messerschmitt plays the album's heaviest moments on the 2nd half of the album with the final three songs allowing the band to fully embrace their Blackened Stoner Rock approach with a snarling pissed off attitude to match.

Oh Death is perhaps the most “Garage Rock” based album I’ve heard this year but still having the balls to bring a more menacing approach to the party and that attitude never waivers even when the very last notes are played.

This is a wickedly entertaining album that dares to be different when the mood calls for it and you should all check this out when you can.
