Turin, 2007: this is the genesis of Origod. Their sound is a unique blend of Cave In and early Mastodon sounds, songs full of groove and melodies for an extraordinary Post-Metal and Hardcore assault.

In 2008 they participated in the "Nightpieces Vol. 5" compilation by the Turin-based Dracma Records, with the song: "Freedom Is In The End", produced by Carlo Ortolano. Then they participate with Braindamage, Broken Glazz, Medusa and other bands at the Dracma Metal Festival.

They released their first album "A New Dawn Fades" for One Voice Recordings in 2010, produced by Daniele Giordana, a sound engineer who boasts many important live and studio collaborations with Monster Magnet, Hatebreed, Machine Head and many others.

In the following years they performed around a hundred concerts in northern Italy, sharing the stage with: Abraham, Eric Forrest (Voivod), Titor, Sunpocrisy, Skarhead, Ultra-Violence, Strange Fear, Stigma, Jordaan, Concrete Block, Ruggine, Infall, O, An evening with knives, If I die today, Fuco, Tons, Doctor Cyclops, Nudist, Juggernaut and many others.

On March 30, 2018 they released their second album "Solitude in Time and Space" for ARGONAUTA Records, well reviewed by critics and audiences. The album was produced by Danilo Battocchio at Deepest Sea Studio in Turin.

In 2021 the band add to its original lineup: Rubens Caligiuri (Sneakers, Turin hard-core band in the 90s) as an additional guitarist and drummer Marco Di Nocco (Medusa, Tons and NoInfo) who will replace Luciano Cotta, involved in other music projects.

The five-piece band is currently working on its new album “Impression” in Redwood Recording Studio, which marks an important further evolution of their sound.

Origod:

Rubens Caligiuri – guitar
Dario Chiadini – guitar
Vincenzo Circosta – voice
Marco Di Nocco – drums
Marco Miglietti – bass guitar

Exclusive Video Premiere Of Doom/Stoner Metallers ORBITER New Track SILENCE BREAKS From Upcoming New Album.

Doom/Stoner Metallers ORBITER will be releasing their stunning new album Hollow World on September 22nd 2023 via Italian Powerhouse label Argonauta Records.

The label describes the album as "Riff worship and swirling psychedelia from Finland! Recommended if you like WINDHAND, CHELSEA WOLFE and REVEREND BIZARRE."

To get you further in the mood and build up anticipation for the album then we have the exclusive song and video premiere for Silence Breaks.

Orbiter singer and music video director Carolin Koss states this about the track.

"Silence Breaks is the opening track of our album, although it’s actually the very last track we wrote for it. We wanted to create a song that summarises the different elements and moods on the record, something exceptionally heavy yet fragile and sensual. I came up with the idea for the music video when I was walking home one dark and quiet autumn night, listening to the album fresh from the mixing and mastering on my headphones. While being on the move, the song somehow gives a strong empowering feeling, but on the other hand it also makes you stop and connect deeply with nature, yourself, and others. So I wanted to create a video that captures these sensations and depicts a communal journey and ritual."

You can pre-order Hollow World on CD/Vinyl via Argonauta Records when it's released on September 22nd 2023.

Review

Silhouettes Of Nothing is the debut full length album from One-Man Instrumental Metal Band Smouldering. The album takes themes and sounds from multiple areas of Hard Rock and Metal such as Post-Rock, Post-Metal, Grunge, Sludge Rock, Psych Rock and Alternative Metal. The album is vastly experimental from start to finish with many different sounds working together for a different style of Instrumental Rock/Metal.

The album does take time to fully take shape. However, there’s some fantastic instrumental sounds heard from the excellent opening tracks of Mutual and As Was. Both of these songs are mostly Post-Metal based with a grungy atmosphere that even veers off into Noise Rock territory. Shades of The Melvins, Mastodon and Neurosis can be heard as slight influences within the heavy grooves that Smouldering lays down here. Progressively melodic with a dark Psych Rock sound allows Smouldering to bring a jazzy sound on the first track Mutual.

Smoulding covers a lot of musical ground on this album with the record running around fifty four minutes in length with the band impressing the most on tracks such as: Red Moon Setting, Hidden Ranges, Memori and Taken To The Wind.

Maybe the album does have too many different genres on this album but the instrumental work is bloody impressive with the wide range of musical instruments that Smouldering plays on this record. The album can be slightly erratic at times but it works best when the record throws caution to the wind and plays some epic guitar solos along the way.

Silhouettes Of Nothing production values are terrific that allow the music to flow at a natural and robust pace.

Give this album a chance and you’ll be surprised by what you encounter on this album. I would consider this album Experimental Sludge/Post-Metal and it has a “dazzling” feel and quality to it that will last long in the memory.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review

Low In The Glow is the new album from Rochester, New York Heavy Post-Doom/Noise/Sludge/Stoner Metal collective CHRMR and it continues their abrasive and aggressive style of music heard on their last few releases. This album has a more potent threat to it all as the band play a sound that is more fitting for today’s modern, heavy and ultra aggressive style of “Post-Whatever” sounds

CHRMR consists of former and current members of Sulaco, Contrarian and Burn Everything and with that kind of pedigree you’re going to expect something different.

Throw in pockets of Post-Doom, Industrial Rock and flashy Noise Rock grooves then CHRMR flirt between 90s Alternative Metal atmospherics with a “RELAPSE RECORDS '' style showmanship. The songs are all wholly contained in their own sound with CHRMR playing multiple styles of modern day hard rock and metal but all foretold within the powers of Sludge/Stoner Metal.

The band aims for a solitary feel on this album especially on the first few songs with Phantomatic, Blue No 19  and Low In The Glow quite surprisingly quickly building up an almost “world building” feel with each song. The songs are aggressive, socially aware and downright catchy in places thanks to the barnstorming use of different styles of music with perhaps an overconfident style of Psych Rock/Metal being the main focus here. The Industrial/Noise Rock aesthetic has been heard on previous CHRMR releases but this is where it feels fully realised with stunning vocals and lyrics to match.

The grooves are muscular but with real intelligence and if CHRMR were around in the glory days of mid-90s/early 00’s Alternative Metal then they would have been a big deal but maybe the added inclusion of the Sludge/Stoner Metal elements make CHRMR perhaps something of an oddity for today’s listeners of the scene we know, love and support.

However, CHRMR is a wonderful creative oddity within the scene. As they’re a band who take ideas from other areas of Hard Rock/Metal that shouldn’t really work here but they do. Especially when they fuse fast-paced Sludge/Stoner Metal violent grooves with similar themes from bands such as NIN and System Of A Down. Check out the excellent two-punch combo of Lone Wolf (Edge Of Town) and Elevators for evidence of this. The music contained here on these two tracks are the best part of this album that should allow CHRMR to endear themselves to the Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal Community.

The final few songs on the album sees CHRMR expand their creative prowess yet again with the band adopting a more “Progressive” edge or angle to their music and the inclusion of almost extreme based “breakdowns” to their music is an added bonus for the overall enjoyment of the album.

The production is excellent as always and allows this album to be another wonderfully epic sounding release from CHRMR.

Get on this release when you can. Overall, Low In The Glow is a stunning release.

Review

SOM are a band I haven’t really taken much notice of until I heard their excellent Awake EP and stunning rendition of Billie Eilish’s song Everything I Wanted. I know the band was made up of members of Post-Rock outfits such as Caspian. Junius and Constants which I’ve heard various releases over the years and enjoyed their creative output.

I was looking forward to their new album The Shape Of Everything to see if the SOM would deliver after their stunning work in 2021. This album is a heavy mix of Post-Rock, Post-Metal, Ambient Doom, Psych Rock and Modern Pop Sensibilities. This album is being touted as “Doom-POP” by some folks. A term I’ve used myself to describe bands such as FLOOR and TORCHE.

However, SOM maybe the perfect representation of the “DOOM-POP” sound. As this album is full of wonderful pop hooks, heavy atmospheric riffs and a gloomy DOOM ROCK environment for SOM to paint their musical canvas upon. The album reminds myself of Deftones, HUM and TORCHE though SOM plays a slightly more Ambient and Alternative style of Rock/Metal.

Opening song - Moments - has that care-free Ambient/Post-Rock attitude whilst moving along to the heavy Doomed out grooves SOM have written for this track. The atmosphere is quite Psychedelic with Spaced Out sounds giving way to the lush and fantastical vocals that appear on the record. Slightly reminiscent of HUM’s 2020 comeback album INLET in places, SOM still play their own distinctive style of music that has a wonderful Shoegaze effect towards the later stages.

Second song - Animals - opens with a more melancholic style of Post-Rock before the sludgy DOOM-POP riffs appear with the intelligent lyrics telling a well focused story.. The vocals are superb yet again with SOM merging different styles of music, voices and noise effects for one of the album's standout tracks. The haunting and groove-laden heavy guitars bring a cool burst of aggression towards the end of the song.

Third song - Center - is a rollercoaster of emotions with SOM laying it all out there for everyone to hear. Slow paced gloomy DOOM-POP riffs are dialed back for this song as SOM offer a more stripped back song where the vocals and lyrics deliver all the excitement you need for this part of the album. The instrumental work is a fine balance of Ambient Post-Rock and Aggressive Post-Metal for a constantly evolving style of music that could easily find an audience within the mainstream rock/metal world.

Fourth song - Shape - is another dazzling mix of different styles of music that brings a more “Alternative Rock” feel to the album. The music could be heavier but I enjoyed the different style of this song where the music is LOUDER but not as HEAVY compared to the other three songs. SOM brings a multi-layered approach to this song and for the rest of the album. Another one of the standout songs on the album.

The second half of the album sees SOM bring a more minimalist and world-weary approach with everything being quite heartfelt. Heavy guitars intertwined with everything that comes from the Post-Rock/Post-Metal worlds but with an underground Doom Rock flavour especially on songs such as: Clocks, Wrong and Son Of Winter.

The production duties are handled by SOM’s very own Will Benoit and he does a first-rate job here with The Shape Of Everything sounding superb from start to finish. Will does have a keen ear for “DOOM-esque” melodies and atmosphere whilst giving it a slight mainstream spin.

The Shape Of Everything could end up being one of 2022’s most definitive and distinctive releases. This is an album packed with genuine heartfelt emotion and fantastic aggressive melodies that only SOM can deliver.

Simply unmissable and a must-have release.

Review

FLAG is the new album from Welsh Powerhouse Rockers Prosperina and their first album in almost 7 years. FLAG was meant to be released back in March 2019 but the band were one of the unfortunate victims of PledgeMusic. Money had been pledged by their fans for the making of this album and when that company went bust with all the money raised, Prosperina did the honourable thing and met their fans' pledge commitments and released this album. Perhaps at a huge financial cost to the band as well .So whilst my respect for Prosperina has never waivered, it has grown considerably for them with the release of FLAG.

Prosperina have always been a very hard band to describe. Parts Grunge, Stoner, Doom, Alternative and other Post-esque sounds that are currently flying about. Prosperina creates their own sound which blends ideas and sounds effortlessly from the last 35 years of Alternative Hard Rock and Metal. FLAG is an emotionally tight and quite involving album with powerful heavy grooves being Prosperina’s main weapon of choice. The album may have been recorded a few years ago but it’s an album for our times and shows how the world is pretty much “FUCKED'' at the moment whilst offering huge amounts of uplifting themes.

The opening songs of the album Deep Never, A New Cold and Art Nouveau bring a sludgy dynamic to Prosperina’s overall musical style and if you like your Grunge more Doom and Stoner based with a slightly “Alternative'' feel then the band have all bases covered. The album is more Psychedelic than I was expecting and I enjoyed how everything fits superbly well.

The dystopian attitude of the album sees Prosperina bring their most inventive style of Progressive Rock/Metal to the party but they never forget their “Grunge/Stoner Rock” roots and that’s no so more evident on the excellent 3 punch combo of - Drunk On The Blood Of Tokyo, Boot and Flag.

These 3 songs are where Prosperina excels the most on this album. Pitch-perfect vocals from lead vocalist Gethin, highly intelligent lyrics and sublime grooves that all have hidden meaning and depth to them.

The final two songs Runner In The Maze and Perhentian Storm contain the heaviest parts of the albums with the gloomy sounds and lyrics keeping with the “Dystopian” themes of the album. Though, the band’s Psychedelic/Post-Grunge grooves offer moments of uplifting energy along the way.

FLAG is an album with something to say and exceeds on all fronts delivering it’s perfectly timed messages but told through different and thrilling styles of Grunge, Alt-Rock, Stoner Rock and Post-Doom sounds.

Prosperina have delivered their best album to date and I hope this moves the band onto bigger and better things. As they deserve to be more widely acknowledged and known within the Stoner Rock/Metal scene.

Review

e.t.c is a Grunge/Alternative Rock Band from Peru who ave just the 10th Anniversary Edition of their self-titled debut album. The album and band itself are primarily influenced by bands such as Deftones, Nirvana and a few other bands from the 90s Grunge Scene. The band add a modern Alternative Rock flavour and I can hear the Deftones influence shining throughout the majority of the songs on their debut record.

It’s by no means perfect but if you grew up in the 90s and worshipped the legendary Grunge Scene then e.t.c. are doing a lot of things right with this release. This is my first exposure to the band and there are some great tunes to lose yourself in with A Comenzar, Sed, Ayer, Maria, Revoluxion and TuntĂșn.

The vocals have a rough and ready appeal to them which matches the Grunge aesthetic superbly well. The album itself is 14 tracks long with the band adding 7 bonus tracks from that are a mixture of Demo and Live tracks. So this is quite the complete package for e.t.c. to release.

One of the more exciting parts about e.t.c. is when they venture into other areas of music such as Progressive Rock. This shows the band are not afraid to broaden their own musical horizons and you can hear bands diverse as TOOL filtering into the band’s overall sound.

e.t.c (EdiciĂłn 10 años) is a welcome change from the usual Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal bands I normally review and let myself remember the good old days when I worshipped the Grunge Scene back in my younger days.

So if you’re an Alternative Rock/Grunge fan then this album is the ideal release for you and you can also discover a fantastic band from the South American Hard Rock/Grunge scene.
