UK Doom Metal Titans CONAN sign to Heavy Psych Sounds Records; new album coming in the spring of 2025.

UK's battle doom giants CONAN join the Heavy Psych Sounds roster for the release of their next two albums, with the first to be released in the spring of 2025.

About signing to Heavy Psych Sounds, the band says: "We are delighted to announce we will release our next album on Heavy Psych Sounds. We have watched the label grow in both size and stature, and watched awesome bands join, and we feel that now is the right time to join too. Gabe and the team have a hands-on approach with appeals to us, and we’re excited to explore this new relationship."CONAN’s doom is singular. Carved of granite. Of course, there have been changes since guitarist/vocalist Jon Davis founded the group in 2006, but the intention at the time toward superlative heavy — tonal extremity wrought with impressionist lyrics stripping ideas to the core where sometimes the whole line is just one word; they’ve always called it “Caveman Battle Doom” – remains at the root of everything they’ve done since. And across five studio records between 2012 and 2022, CONAN have set the standard by which much of “heavy” anything is judged. In comparison, most are found wanting.

For every time you’ve heard about CONAN’s music being about galloping steeds or frost-covered sharp-peaked mountains, imagery of largesse and violence, the truth is Conan are an exercise in frequency. It’s the low resonance that shakes your chest, the depth of the bass – now handled by David Ryley (ex-Fudge Tunnel) – the push of air from Johnny King’s kick drum, or the way the dark-fuzz distortion of Jon Davis’ guitar is offset by shouting vocals cutting through that sometimes punishing onslaught, rarely to offer comfort so much as add viciousness to the crash, plod and pillage.

In 2024, CONAN sign to Heavy Psych Sounds as a recognized name and one of the foremost acts of their generation, wildly influential in their home country of the UK and well beyond; headliners in practice and theory alike. Their fifth LP, 2022’s ‘Evidence of Immortality,’ brought a dark ambience to coincide with its outright attack. With experiments in darkwave and synth adding breadth to the stated root purpose of aural force, it’s never been harder to guess where the next few years might take their sound, but whatever’s coming, CONAN will make it kill. The better part of two decades later, their reliability remains unshakable. Which you want when your band is so heavy that the floor and your ribcage both start to vibrate. — Words by JJ Koczan

On this occasion, Conan have unveiled new merch designed by Branca Studio and Mirkow Gastow, which can be purchased now via Heavy Psych Sounds EU store and US store.

Mountain Caller Sign To Church Road Records. The Band Release New Single THE ARCHIVIST From Upcoming New Album.

Doom/Stoner Metallers Mountain Caller have signed to Church Road Records. To celebrate this new found partnership, the band have released new single 'The Archivist'. New album news to follow soon.

Like all Mountain Caller tracks, 'The Archivist' takes you on a sonic exploration to worlds unheard of. It acts as the perfect vessel for the listener to conjure up thoughts and feelings truly unique to themselves.

The band said this about the track...

"We’re beyond thrilled to release “The Archivist” from our forthcoming new album. It’s hard to pick something indicative of the new record because each track forms part of the whole story, but it’s certainly a taste of our ambition. There’s so much more to come, including a continuation of The Protagonist’s journey and Mountain Caller lore. We’re so proud of what we’ve created and can’t wait to share it with everyone. We are also stoked to be releasing this with our new friends at Church Road Records too. Play it loud!"

Thanks to Church Road Records for the details.

Sludge Heavy Weights IO Sign To Argonauta Records!

Rome- based Sludge heavy weights, IO, have announced their signing with powerhouse label Argonauta Records, who will release the band’s debut album in the Spring of 2021.

The trio’s music is basically inspired by the burning, volcanic and foggy lands of IO, the Jupiter's moon; their long, slow, and heavy as fire compositions could be indeed characterized by a dense atmosphere of sulfur while lava flows turn into magma lakes. IO‘s hazy yet poundering sounds, pure fuzz and sludgy heaviness, is taking its listener on a cosmic trip into volcanic space dimensions.

IO, who was formed in 2015, shared several stages with acts alike Monkey3, OTUS and many more, until they gained the attention by one of Italy’s leading heavy music underground labels Argonauta Records.

"We are very excited to join forces with Argonauta Records for the release of our first full length album." IO comments. "We are really proud of this volcanic doomed work, which took some time to be completed during this pandemic, and we just can't wait to bring you this caliginous overflow, we expect all the muddy sounds' lovers to ride it loudly!"

IO’s debut will be seeing the light of day in the Spring 2021, with many more details and album tunes to follow in the months ahead.

Label News - SEEING RED RECORDS SIGN SWEDISH DOOM METALLERS SHADOWMASTER

Seeing Red Records have signed Swedish Doom Metallers SHADOWMASTER to their roster.

Originally releasing a demo in 2015 under the guise, Desert Crone, the band recorded a full length in 2016 and decided to change their name to Shadowmaster before self-releasing the album digitallty in August of this year. We were fortunate to sign the band and decided to press a physical release in the form of a Cd digipack that will be out December 22! PRE-ORDER

Somehow completely overlooked by labels, press, and fans in general.

Shadowmaster have crafted a completely devastating offering that demands your attention immediately upon listening. Cited by renown artist, Stephen Kasner (Sunn 0)), Khanate, Rotting Christ) as one of his favorite new acts, the bands imagery is just as gripping as their music. There is not much more I can say as the music speaks for itself.

Cursed Tongue Records Announce New Signing - MENTAL TREMORS

CTR-004: Mental Tremors - 'Mental Tremors'

Cursed Tongue Records is extremely happy to finaly reveal that they have signed Mental Tremors for a release of their self titled debut album on high quality vinyl this fall.

Who needs a bass-player when you can have bottom heavy fuzz so thick it carves through stone? Sometimes less is more and especially in the case with hard hitting duo Mental Tremors that on their debut deliver deep grooves, fuzzy riffs for miles, sweet melodic licks and offer up a batch of solid rock songs that will have you rolling for a long time.

So fans of The Heavy Eyes, Telekinetic Yeti, Black Prism, KEEF MOUNTAIN, Lord Loud, Teacher, take notice...

Formed in early 2016, heavy psych duo Mental Tremors came together in the rock n roll hotpot of Melbourne, Australia. Hailing from musical backgrounds ranging from blues and metal, to punk and hardcore, the pair united over their mutual love of psych grooves and big bluesy riffs.

Writing and recording of their debut self titled album was completed by the end of 2016 and was released by March 2017, mere weeks after playing their first few shows. Shortly after the album was launched they were signed to the DIY puritans, Cursed Tongue Records, for a special vinyl release of their debut.

The second half of 2017 will see them releasing their vinyl debut, writing more songs, playing more shows and continue asking themselves, "how much noise can two people make?"

Official release date: TBA
