Hound With No Bone
Review
Hound With No Bone is the latest single from Grunge/Stoner Rockers Monkey Ham. The band have been going for quite a while and released an excellent EP called Pulled The Trigger back in 2022. They’ve released a couple of songs over the last year or so which continues a similar style of music as Hound With No Bone. The song is quite grounded with Monkey Ham delivering a great blend of Doom, Grunge, Hard Rock, Psych and Blues Rock that’s all lovingly wrapped in a fast-paced Stoner Rock package.
If you’re a fan of the likes of CLUTCH, Black Sabbath, QOTSA and Soundgarden then you’ll know what to expect with Monkey Ham conjuring a great riff-fest for you to fully explore. It’s not the most original but Monkey Ham has this where it counts and that’s the RIFFS. The sound is upbeat and never tries to explore areas of Progressive melodies. This is good old fashioned music which is packed full of Stoner Rock goodness whilst delivering a great style of Classic Hard Rock with some spicy Psych Rock and Blues Rock soundscapes along the way.
The vocals are superb as well which gives this an soulful attitude from start to finish. Monkey Ham knows how to have a real good time and I’m hoping there’s more great songs being released in the near future. As they have their own “winning formula” of writing great music that will stay with you for a long time.
Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review
Grunge/Alt Metallers Solothurn latest EP - High Priestess - continues the great work they achieved with their previous single Hollow that was released last year. This time round Solothurn brings a heavier Progressive attitude to their music with some great melodies inspired by the Nineties Grunge, Alt-Metal and Stoner Metal scenes. The music is quite melodic with a hard hitting attitude with some intricate Psychedelic passages coming out to play which you can instantly feel within the excellent opening title track.
If you’re a fan of Alice In Chains, Deftones, Soundgarden, TOOL and Mastodon then Solothurn conjures similar sounds of those amazing bands whilst putting their own creative ideas into the mix. THe EP lasts twenty minutes with Solothurn moving their music into the Alternative Metal arena with each passing moment. There are small echoes of Doom Rock and Stoner Metal grooves appearing along the way but it’s mostly of that classic Grunge and Alt Metal dynamic that has the most lasting impact. The lyrics are superb which adds real emotional weight to the whole record.
The vocals from lead vocalist Ryan Adair are spectacular which he taps right into the Post-Metal and Prog Metal dynamic which works superbly well within the Grunge aesthetic which goes for a gloom and doom outlook on the other two tracks of Burning Decay and Hollow. The final track of Hollow was released last year but this version has been slightly revised which gives it extra weight from beginning to end.
High Priestess is an outstanding EP that allows Solothurn to make a real name for themselves with a record that delivers on all fronts with some great musical instrumental passages that leave you wanting more. I loved the transformation from Solothurn when they venture into more extreme levels of Heavy Metal. I hope they use that style of music greatly within their next release as they pull that off with great style and adds a more menacing presence to their music.
Check this out when you can.

Review
Temple King are a fairly new band who only formed back in January 2026 and they’ve already decided to release their debut album. Temple King plays a sludgy mix of Doom, Psych, Stoner, Heavy Metal and a vicious Desert Rock sound. The album has a lo-fi and stripped back flow appearing within the production and recording process the record ultimately contains. There’s a frenzied and distorted attitude that appears very early on within the record with opening tracks Necromancer and When Darkness Comes.
The songs are perhaps more Doom/Sludge Metal with small outbursts of Stoner Rock/Metal attitude appearing but Temple King becomes more part of the WEEDIAN culture when everything is finished. It’s not the best sounding record but this allows Temple King to rely on pure BRUTE FORCE to get their music across with influences such as CONAN, ELECTRIC WIZARD and HIGH ON FIRE being used to great effect.
The LOW & SLOW and DISTORTED musical surroundings can be quite long drawn out with a slow-paced delivery that only adds to the menacing attitude of Temple King especially with the gruff, grizzled and muscular vocals that are provided by LWV, Samhain and Ozzy along the way. The music is a different story with Temple King drawing a wide range of different musical styles that will satisfy the most jaded of underground metal fans. Things can be quite grimy, seedy and with the amplified heaviness being too much to listen to at times which proves how Temple King knows how to write, form, play and deliver a violent FUZZY groove when you least expect it.
It’s also great to hear Temple King playing classic Heavy Metal and Doomed Out themes which adds a gloomy sense of scorched earth heaviness on tracks such as: The Sleeper Awakens, Goeita, War Messiah and the epic standout track of Barsoom. These tracks allow Temple King to forge new sounds powered by a great style of Prog Metal with a MASTODON element fully taking charge. You can still expect to hear some classic Heavy Metal and Stoner Metal sounds which results in some epic instrumental solos being played from everyone involved.
The rough and ready approach from Temple King gives this a highly undeniable charm which could come from the underground Rock/Metal scene. Temple King even adds some cool sounding Post-Doom and Synth heavy soundscapes amongst the frenzied atmospherics that fully sells their own great story from start to finish.
This is a deliriously warped and fuzzed up musical adventure with Temple King never being afraid of being absolutely outrageous on certain sections of the record whilst also conjuring up superb riffs that you can’t help but violently head-bang to in absolute full agreement.
Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review
The Headless are a Grunge/Alt-Metal/Space Rock collective who provide some small areas of Sludge Rock and Shoegaze into their music. Their debut single Another Cloth has a brooding Nineties Alt-Rock attitude which allows the music to join up with heavier rock/metal forces. The song can be described with a classic commercial rock energy but The Headless inject some BARONESS Sludge Rock melodies into their music.
The lyrics flirt between Grunge, Psych and Shoegaze dynamics with echoes of FAILURE, SOUNDGARDEN and HUM which is the main creative crux for The Headless to impress listeners with. The unexpected surprise appears at the end of the song with The Headless delving into FAITH NO MORE musical progression especially some of the vocals and musical surroundings whilst keeping that classic Alt-Rock dynamic that should keep you highly intrigued until the very end.
Another Cloth is aggressively melodic and sometimes upbeat but it’s that trippy style of dark based grooves that allows The Headless to fully stand out on their own creative merits. This is a great introduction from The Headless and I’m excited to hear the other songs they currently have planned to be released later this year. Production values are excellent for their debut single as there’s a rich and powerful sound emitting from everyone involved, especially those epic guitars that generate the most outstanding sounds on the single.
The Headless are most definitely worth your time. Check them out when you can.

Review
Valluhn's self-titled debut album is a highly atmospheric slice of Psychedelic Stoner Rock with a core Shoegaze melody developing very early on within the record. Valluhn has a similar creative sound to the likes of Howling Giant, King Buffalo, Weedpecker and Elder where the music drifts into that epic style of Post-Rock, Prog, Psych and Space Rock surroundings. The record has quite raw and abstract production values that gives the whole record quite a vivid sound especially when Valluhn moves into full-on Stoner Rock/Metal mode.
The album does feel a little incomplete at times but Valluhn have created some exquisite sounds that have a real air of intelligence to them which keeps everything grounded especially through the superb opening tracks of Cary The Light, The Watchers and You Are Mine. With the music moving between areas of Heavy Psych, Post-Rock and Alt Rock dynamics with Brandon Vaillancourt being the main creative force behind this musical project. It feels like Brandon grew up on a steady diet of Nineties Heavy Rock with solid explorations into modern day musical composition.
The raw sounding heavy grooves is what makes the music really stand out with the lush Ambient and Post-Rock structures firmly setting the scene early on within each individual track before the aggressive Post-Doom and Post-Stoner music takes centre stage. There’s some excellent use of synths spliced throughout the album which should appeal to fans of ELDER and KING BUFFALO a great deal.
There are some parts of the record that feel influenced by video games soundtracks but delivered with a sense of real emotion. The sudden shift into Post-Doom surroundings remind me of SPACESLUG especially within the heaviest parts of the album. Sometimes the tracks suddenly stop when things are just about to get interesting which almost took me out of the whole psychedelic journey of the record. However, it’s a good thing that Valluhn has written a collection of great tracks where the next big riff, hook, melody and groove isn’t too far behind to take the listener on another cinematic journey.
As I stated previously, the production and recording techniques are quite stripped back but they’re superbly delivered with Valluhn never outstaying their welcome. They always play to their musical strengths which results in some trippy Sludge/Stoner Rock sounds leaving you wanting more on tracks such as The Watchers, You Are Mine, Black Dollar Bill and Roots.
For a debut album, Valluhn have pulled out all the stops in releasing a highly atmospheric record that fully delivers within the riffs department. I can’t wait to hear what the band fully delivers next as they’re a great band to fully get behind and show some love if you can.
Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review
Bloodwork is the latest single from Atmospheric Heavy Rock collective Teiger who released their widely acclaimed debut album back in 2023. Teiger traverses within the heavier and darker side of Desert Rock with the band touching upon areas of Prog Rock, Psych, Post-Rock, Shoegaze, Grunge and Alt-Rock themes. The band have quite a dreamy melodic sound for the most part but don't let that side of their music fool you. As they know when to transform into a heavier creative unit where their heavy volumes know no bounds.
Bloodwork sees the band explore a more emotionally charged sound with a subtle sideline in Nineties Alt Rock influences shining through such as Portishead. However, there’s more to Teiger's sound which is brilliantly centered on Talie Rose England’s spellbinding vocals which have influences ranging from Beth Gibbons, Dorthia Cottrell and I even get where the Grace Slick comparisons come from. This lady has amazing vocal range and it allows Teiger to have a deeper aggressive sound when the need calls for it.
Teiger's members are excellent musicians with the members playing multiple different instruments on this track alone. The band have also called upon the amazing talents of Jo Quall on cello which adds a subtle Post-Doom and Shoegaze sound towards the later stages of the track. There is a hidden seductive energy that instantly draws the listener in with dreamy psychedelics that shows a darker style of Desert Rock that you don’t experience much these days.
If you dig the likes of Portishead, Yawning Man, SOM, Slow Crush and Windhand then Teiger will blow you away with this stunning track that makes me quite excited to hear their upcoming second album.

Review
Indonesian Doom/Stoner Metallers Gutward debut album is a great mix of Doom, Stoner Metal, Psych and Space Rock that’s filled with fractured Amplified textures that brings a groovy sound influenced by the likes of Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, Slomatics and Monolord. The record has a stripped back sound within the recording process and production values that allows Gutward to play a distorted Cosmic sound. Gutward has that dominant Power Trio energy which allows each member to play their part in demonstrating a down tuned melodic energy that’s packed with violent delivery coming from the speakers.
The album runs for around thirty six minutes across six tracks with Gutward showcasing a delicious LOW & SLOW theme throughout the whole record with great vocals coming from Nabiel Habibie and Dafiq Achmad providing excellent support. Though, it’s the music that’s the real “STAR” or “MAIN ATTRACTION” here with Gutward adding a sludgy sideline of Psychedelic Fuzz Rock sound that has a hidden Atmospheric depth that can be quite destructive the best of times on tracks such as Reign Of The Wicked, What’s With The Rush, Dead Eyes and The Messages.
There is some great riff-centric build up here with Gutward edging more closely to the likes of Black Sabbath and Monster Magnet on the heaviest parts of the record. The level of SONIC interplay contained on this record has a classic Nineties Grunge and Stoner Metal energy which is brought bang up-to-date with thrilling modern day psychedelic soundscapes but with Gutward keeping with that classic down-tuned delivery that can be quite long drawn out at times.
Though, most of the grooviest and impressive instrumental beats come from when Gutward rely firmly on Seventies Hard Rock musical worship which shows prominently on the later stages of the record. There’s a hidden backline of Proto-Metal and Classic Doom appearing which is perhaps used as an afterthought at times but this gives the album an unpredictable energy which Gutward use to their full advantage.
Gutward have delivered a debut album that shows how they’re a band with real potential to last the course and gain a cult following within the scene. If you like your Doom/Stoner Metal music with the classic LOW & SLOW approach the “I” is a record you need to play on the BIGGEST, LOUDEST and most AGGRESSIVE speakers you can lay your hands on and just let yourselves FLY!!!
Excellent and Highly Recommended.
