Review

Instrumental Doom/Psych/Stoner Metallers Clouds Taste Satanic offer a new “LIVE” record with Berlin 2023, though this time round this performance was captured live in a studio performance which the PR blurb below provides all of the necessary info:

“Recorded at Big Snuff Studios in Berlin in May 2023, the album is a no-overdub, live-in-the-room document of the band’s European tour setlist from that year, capturing their sound at its most raw, direct, and immediate.”

The whole performance is undeniably raw and is perhaps the closest you’ll likely experience hearing Clouds Taste Satanic on the live stage. The band is super focused performing four classic tracks sourced over the last eleven years or so of their legendary back catalogue. Clouds Taste Satanic put in a very committed performance which can be quite frightening at times especially when they start adding gloomy sound effects that offer a real APOCALYPTIC vibe into the whole performance and that’s only within the first five minutes of the stunning opening track Second Sight.

With there being no overdubs being used for this performance, the whole sound is very stripped back and quite solitary which allows the listener to become fully immersed with the whole record. The band feel like their channelling fellow instrumental heavyweights PELICAN, EARTH, BONGRIPPER, KARMA TO BURN and OM whilst keeping their own original sound highly intact.

The music can be quite slow-paced and highly methodical at times especially within Second Sight and Sun Death Ritual where they feel quite different to their studio counterparts whilst keeping a similar sound at the same time. Clouds Taste Satanic try changing certain themes and technical aspects of each track which adds a new sense of creative freedom with this musical performance which takes you ever so closely to achieving the legendary mindset of “INTER-DIMENSIONAL SPACE GOAT”.

Berlin 2023 does see Clouds Taste Satanic show once again why they’re one of the best storytellers within the whole Doom/Stoner Metal scene where they weave COSMIC energy into a transcendent and meditative style of music that very few bands can achieve such as YOB. You feel this COSMIC energy throughout the whole album which mostly comes through within Second Sight and Sun Death Ritual (Parts I-III).

The final two tracks Spirits of the Green Desert (Part IV) and Beast From the Sea allows the band to concentrate on playing compact grooves and a more straightforward style of riff-centric songs. Though, they are in full-on deconstruction mode with some sections broken down into distorted passages and violent psychedelic soundscapes that leave you questioning what is real. However, along the way they will still show you how the band are great at combining Doom, Stoner, Sludge, Psych and Post-Rock with a highly articulate style of free-form melodies being used at the same time.

Clouds Taste Satanic have nothing left to prove but continue to explore different musical ideas that most bands dare come up with even with tracks that fans already know, love and admire. Berlin 2023 is another classic “LIVE ALBUM” from Clouds Taste Satanic which proves once again why they’re considered “LEGENDS” and “HEROES” to so many within the Doom/Stoner Metal scene.

Clouds Taste Satanic - Birmingham 2024 (Album Review)

Release Date: February 07th 2025. Record Label: Kinda Like Music. Formats: DD/Vinyl

Birmingham 2024 - Track Listing:

Collision (Part III)
Reclamation (Paris IV-IX)
Pagan Worship
Out Of The Abyss

Review

Birmingham 2024 is the new live album from acclaimed Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metal masters Clouds Taste Satanic and is the first in a series of “Live In Studio” releases the band will be releasing. The first volume was recorded in Birmingham, UK which is considered the holy land and birthplace of HEAVY METAL. The album features no overdubs at all which closely resembles how Clouds Taste Satanic sound LIVE

The record features tracks from their albums 79 A.E., Evil Eye and Your Doom Has Come with each subsequent release hopefully having a different track list. The Birmingham edition is a great way to kick-start the series with Clouds Taste Satanic on heavy and inspired DOOMEDELIC form with their last acclaimed record 79 A.E. being performed within its spectacular glory. The sounds are sparse and full of gloomy determination with the band using the space around them for a deeper, meaningful and progressive sound especially on tracks such as Collision (Part III), Reclamation (Parts IV-IX) and Out Of The Abyss.

Clouds Taste Satanic sounds way more COSMIC and PSYCHEDELIC that I initially anticipated especially for a live record such as this. The music is crushingly heavy and sets Clouds Taste Satanic a breed apart from other instrumental bands within the underground scene. They’re masters at the top of their game and they’ve been like this for a very long time now and the band have earned the right to release a series of live albums instead of releasing new material.

If you haven’t seen Clouds Taste Satanic in concert before then Birmingham 2025 is the next best thing with the band giving their all from start to finish and playing some epic and familiar classic tracks along the way.

Birmingham 2024 is another must have release to add to the already expansive Clouds Taste Satanic collection and it’s only going to get bigger. So buckle up for an exciting ride where the atmosphere is raw, aggressive and moody as hell.

Clouds Taste Satanic - 79 A.E. (Album Review)

Release Date: 01st March 2024. Record Label: Self Released. Formats: DD

79 A.E. - Tracklisting

1.Collision

2.Reclamation

Review

Instrumental Doom Metallers Clouds Taste Satanic return with their eighth album 79 A.E. which acts as a soundtrack to an unmade Apocalyptic Film. Consisting of two tracks both running for around twenty two minutes in length, the record is quite different to their acclaimed 2023 effort Tales Of Demonic Possession. As the band play a more streamlined version of Doom/Stoner Metal with flashes of Post-Rock and Ambient based energy.

This record has a more dominant Psychedelic and Cosmic sound with the band even adding a wicked style of classic Stoner grooves within the epic opening track Collision. Sludgy guitars abound within the first half of the song with a vibrant stop/start approach with the gloomy moments of the song. There is a subtle Blues Rock energy which the band splices with Space Rock attitude.

Even with no vocals or soundbytes, Clouds Taste Satanic provides a thrilling storytelling narrative which becomes ever more real when the heavier instrumental jams appear with the drumming being a real highlight.

Second track Reclamation sees Clouds Taste Satanic operate with a more Progressive vision which ultimately builds upto multiple different styles of Cosmic Doom and Psychedelic Stoner themes which takes the listener ever so closer to the impending arrival of ARMAGEDDON that 79 A.E. has been built for. The music is ever so real with a street level attitude despite the OUT OF THIS WORLD and science fiction creativity that the band have used for the record. The sound can be quite down-tuned in places with moments of bleak cinematic grooves before changing into small moments of uplifting blissful energy.

79 A.E. is a first rate exercise in SONIC DELIVERY where the music feels almost too real at times and even hearing Clouds Taste Satanic having a more free-flowing attitude especially on the later stages of the album. Intricate noises and Ambient rhythms are used throughout the album which only adds to the overall excitement of the whole record. It’s great to see Clouds Taste Satanic explore new areas of music with that lush Post-Rock attitude being used to wonderful effect on Reclamation.

This is an album with genuine HEART and SOUL with a powerful DESTRUCTIVE quality which gives it a more emotional feel that you don’t initially expect. 79 A.E. proves once again why Clouds Taste Satanic are without doubt one of the finest Instrumental bands from the Doom/Stoner Metal scene around today. This is another unmissable record from the band.

Explore Your Own Cosmic Destruction at your own leisure. Simply unmissable.

Clouds Taste Satanic - All I Want For Christmas Is Your Soul (EP Review)

Release Date: 24th November 2023. Record Label: Kinda Like Music. Formats: DD

All I Want For Christmas Is Your Soul - Tracklisting

1.All I Want for Christmas Is You 05:04

2.You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch 03:21

3.Christmas With The Devil 05:17

4.Little Drummer Boy 04:54

Review

Whoever thought that famed Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metallers Clouds Taste Satanic would release an EP full of Christmas Covers but all done with a sinister and wicked Doomedelic twist. Well, here we are with All I Want For Christmas Is Your Soul with Clouds Taste Satanic performing their own twisted versions of festive classic hits such as All I Want For Christmas Is You, You’re A Mean One, Mr Grinch and Little Drummer Boy. Though the main surprise is playing a cover of the Spinal Tap classic Christmas With The Devil, well it wouldn’t be a festive Heavy Metal release without a true HEAVY METAL FESTIVE song.

Clouds Taste Satanic bring their instrumental magic with their fantastic demented style of Doom/Stoner Metal Riff wizardry which works amazingly well on All I Want For Christmas Is You and Little Drummer Boy. You’re A Mean One, Mr Grinch is a cool Post-Doom/Stoner Metal offering with a subtle Sludge Rock groove appearing within the more memorable heavier moments of the track. Jeez, Clouds Taste Satanic even add a Thrash Metal sound to certain parts of the track with a classic 80’s Heavy Metal appetite which makes up for some of the most interesting parts of the whole EP.

Christmas With The Devil is where Clouds Taste Satanic can be their most outlandish and sinister best with a classic Proto-Metal, Psych Rock and Proto-Doom sound appearing with moments of pure RAWK & ROLL excess which exhibits proper 1970’s outlandish guitar riffs that showcases once again why Clouds Taste Satanic are one of the most definitive Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metal bands currently playing within the underground scene.

All I Want For Christmas Is Your Soul is the one and only true Christmas release you need this year. This is an EP that does something wholly original with the actual source material and makes you want to hear more from Clouds Taste Satanic playing festive classics. And I’m a fully paid up member of the “BAH HUMBUG” crew.

Fantastic stuff….

Review

Instrumental Doom/Stoner Rockers Clouds Taste Satanic return with their new album Tales Of Demonic Possession with band providing four new tracks that run over eighty minutes in length. The album features the usual great mix of Psychedelic sounds and trippy effects the band are known for. Though, the band show a more melodic outlook with their music on this album. Throw in Spaced Out and Cosmic Effects which you can hear throughout the epic runtime of the album.

Tales Of Demonic Possession allows Clouds Taste Satanic to perhaps be considered as one of the leading lights of the Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metal scene. These guys are know setting the scene for other bands to follow and possibly influence the future generation of Instrumental Rock/Metal bands.

With this being their seventh full length release, Clouds Taste Satanic have still managed to create a groundbreaking album that's vastly different to their previous releases but retaining their trademark sound as well.

First song Flames And Demon Drummers show a more reflective and even hopeful band at the start with lush Psychedelic and Dreamlike grooves before the band return to their gloomy atmospheric sound. Elements of Psych Rock, Space Rock and Classic Hard Rock appear with a slight distorted path before the music turns into a heavier and groovier style of Doom/Stoner Metal. Clouds Taste Satanic do cover a lot of ground here on this song but they do this with such grace and style that there's a highly volatile melodic style especially when traces of Progressive Rock/Metal appear within the non-stop avalanche of extended jams and groovy guitar solos.

Second song Sun Death Ritual offers a bleak distorted sound with this perhaps being the most out-there track on the album. As Clouds Taste Satanic perform multiple different styles of the WEEDIAN underground scene but with a sublime SONIC and COSMIC aggressive drive. Different Psychedelic and Spaced Out textures when merged with a classic style of Doom/Stoner Riff Exploration. The song is dense, loud and superbly melodic with the band showing traces of that classic BLACK SABBATH sound. The song runs past the twenty one minute mark and the band switch to different styles of music with absolute gusto and swagger.

The second half of the album is even more VIVID with wilder song structures on the tracks Spirits Of The Green Desert and Conjuring The Dark Rider. The album becomes more heavier and gloomier with the band returning ever slightly to the Doom Metal roots. Though, the band still explore offer areas of the Heavy Stoner Rock/Metal world. There's also a deep love and influence for 1970's sounding Prog Rock, Doom, Psych Rock and Space Rock on this part of the album.

The production is wonderful with the album sounding incredible from start to finish especially when the heavier Psychedelic and Cosmic grooves appear.

Tales Of Demonic Possession is EPIC and CINEMATIC in scope with Clouds Taste Satanic delivering perhaps their best work to date and maybe the best Instrumental Rock/Metal album of the year, even this early on.

This is a must have album. So you know what to do come release time. Add this to your collection right away. This is a future classic in the making.

Clouds Taste Satanic - The Satanic Singles Series – Volume 3 (Single Review)

Release date: January 8th 2021. Label: Self Released. Format: CD/DD/Vinyl

The Satanic Singles Series Volume 3 – Tracklisting

1.Cecilia Ann/Rock Music 05:12
2.Blew 03:53

Review

Clouds Taste Satanic are back with Volume 3 of The Satanic Singles Series. This time the band are covering the following songs and they’ve picked up some real classics this time.

The Pixies – Cecilia Ann and Rock Music.
Nirvana – Blew

Lets get down to business with Cecilia Ann and Rock Music. This is an excellent cover from CTS and they play another winning blend of Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metal that is quite louder and more aggressive compared to the original with the added bonus of Rock Music being one of the best PIXIES covers I've heard in a long time. The cover is direct and the doom riffs are quite potent and this is a different beast compared to the original.

Blew is another interesting cover from CTS and I expected the guys to cover one of Nirvana’s more well-known hits but this is perhaps the best cover on the The Satanic Singles Series so far. The heavy BASS guitar undeniably makes itself known before the heavy drums and guitars appear and the song moves at it’s own delirious and addictive pace. The song is slightly longer than the original which allows CTS to play a more doomier and down-turned version but you can still tell what the song actually is.

This is another great release from Clouds Taste Satanic. We only have one more release left and as always it will be good to know what songs will the guys be playing next.

Clouds Taste Satanic - The Satanic Singles Series – Volume 2 (Single Review)

Release date: December 04th 2020. Label: Self Released. Format: DD/Vinyl

The Satanic Singles Series – Volume 2 – Tracklisting

1.Behind The Wall Of Sleep 03:20
2.If You Doom Me Now 04:53

Review

Clouds Taste Satanic (CTS) are back with Volume 2 of their The Satanic Singles Series and this time CTS have the Godfathers Of Doom and Heavy Metal in their sights with the first cover of the EP. As Black Sabbath now get the Instrumental Doom Metal treatment and with 2020 being a special year for that legendary band. CTS have chosen one of the lesser known tracks from Black Sabbath classic debut album with Beyond The Wall Of Sheep being played as strictly a Doom Metal song.

This version matches the gloominess and heaviness of the original but with a “less is more” approach which does the song justice and CTS are clearly having fun paying homage to their musical heroes.

I originally thought the next song was a new composition – If You Doom Me Now. As I tried looking for the original version of YouTube without much luck and I thought it’s a new song. Well that assumption was blown out of the water when I listened to the song. It’s a heavy doomed out Instrumental cover of that dearly loved and classic Heavy Metal Band – CHICAGO – and their most famous song – If You Leave Me Now.

Well played CTS. Well fucking played. Great joke. Top marks for that one. The cover itself is wickedly brilliant and “PISSES ALL OVER” the original. I was never a fan of CHICAGO or this damn overrated song but CTS version I could listen all day. This is a joyous blend of Classic Rock, Doom Metal, Psych Rock and Hard Rock.

I’m also beginning to think the common theme of this EP is also because of a certain Adam Sandler film where both artists were featured quite prominently within LITTLE NICKY. Though, that could be myself just looking far too much into things.

Anyway, here’s another slice of excellent covers given the Instrumental Doom Metal makeover and I don’t think CHICAGO could never ROCK HARD as this. Horns In The Air!!!!

Clouds Taste Satanic - The Satanic Singles Series (EP Review)

Release date: November 6th 2020. Label: Self Released. Format: DD/Vinyl

The Satanic Singles Series – Tracklisting

1.Funeral For A Friend 06:00
2.Also Sprach Zarathustra 02:07

Review

Famed Instrumental Doom Rockers – Clouds Taste Satanic – are doing something different for their next releases. The band explain it better themselves with the following statement:

Clouds Taste Satanic presents “The Satanic Singles Series” - 4 Singles in 4 Months…8 Covers in need of CTS Heavy.

The first batch of songs that get the CTS treatment is the Elton John classic – Funeral For A Friend – and an tone poem called Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss which was made more famous by the classic Science fiction film – 2001.

Both tracks are instrumental so you don’t have to worry about the band adding vocals to the mix. CTS still remain everyone’s favourite Instrumental Post-Doom/Stoner Metal band but bring their own unique spin on two very different songs.

Funeral For A Friend shouldn’t really work as a Metal Cover but CTS pull off the unthinkable and have made a stunning rendition of a classic song and almost making it their own. The song is gloomy and majestic as hell with heavy doomed out riffs that are played at a cool slow pace. The song is quite emotional and it has to be. A stunning cover that demands your undivided attention.

Also Sprach Zarathustra sees CTS focus on perhaps the most famous part of the song and that’s the opening two minutes “Einleitung, oder Sonnenaufgang" (Introduction, or Sunrise) which sees CTS play a Post-Rock approach to the song and when the heavy bombastic music appears then CTS go into Doom Metal overdrive. It’s a shame the band only focused on the opening 2 minutes of the song. As I wanted to hear more but this is still a fantastic and quite different cover compared to the famous original.

With this being the 1st record of 4 being released in the next coming months then I say CTS are off to a great start and I cannot wait to see what they will cover next. I’m wondering if they will be doing a song with vocals to just surprise us all. We’ll wait and see.

Clouds Taste Satanic - Second Sight (Album Review)

Release date: October 31st 2019. Label: Self Released. Format: CD/DD/Vinyl

Second Sight – Tracklisting

2.Black Mass 21:07

Review

Second Sight is the new album from famed Instrumental Doom Metal Band – Clouds Taste Satanic. This is also the band’s 2nd album released this year. As the band released Evil Eye back in April 2019. This album continues with Post-Doom feeling heard on Evil Eye but with a more classic style of Doom Rock/Metal being played with it’s epic strands of Psych Rock, Space Rock and Stoner Metal.

Both songs last 21 minutes each and they’re both sprawling epics that bring back the heavy days of 70s Prog Rock and Spaced Out Jams. The music is quite dense and captivating with the band moving at their own steady pace. The swirling noises have a more dramatic effect and even allow Clouds Taste Satanic to operate with a more Post-Metallic delivery especially on the opening song Second Sight.

Clouds Taste Satanic show you how exciting Instrumental Rock/Music can be and move the genre into new exciting grounds that you just don’t get with other Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metal bands. Clouds Taste Satanic are clearly at the forefront of the genre now. The band know when to bring the heavy riffs to the party and when to hold back which helps build up an exciting atmosphere.

The band weave an intriguing story for this album despite the lack of vocals. With different sounds and grooves to show the next exciting part of the story the album wholly contains.

The band are more adventurous on this album with a more claustrophobic style of music being added on certain parts of the album. The hazy guitar tones are quite distorted in places and the album becomes a more gloomier experience. This is perhaps the band’s most experimental and diverse offering to date whilst still retaining their trademark sound.

Second Sight is an album not only you should listen to but one that you should respect and admire for doings things differently and succeeding on every level possible.

With some bands just content releasing one album this year, Clouds Taste Satanic had to stick a mighty UP YOURS to the world and release another thrilling and exciting album. It doesn’t get any better than this if you’re a fan of Instrumental Doom/Stoner Metal.

Clouds Taste Satanic - Evil Eye (Album Review)

Review

Evil Eye is the 5th album from famed Doom Metal Instrumentalists – Clouds Taste Satanic- This time the band return with a heavier and more psychedelic offering compared to their earlier releases. The band offer two songs both running for about 20 minutes each. You can expect to hear the great heavy doomed out sounds that Clouds Taste Satanic are known for. However, expect a more rigid and progressive approach to their music with the band taking their time bring the heavy thunderous riffs to the party.

First song – Evil Eye – has a stripped back approach with the mood being very direct though this allows the band to slowly bring in many different layers of Psychedelic Doom Metal twinned with elements of Hard Rock, Classic Rock and Stoner Metal for a gloomy and out of body experience. This is the type of song that demands your full undivided attention. The slow-paced parts of the song are quite gloomy and sees the band play a more nuanced style of music.

Second song – Pagan Worship – lives up to it’s DOOM based title with the band creating some of their heaviest DOOM METAL riffs on this song. The song is deliriously fast-paced and angry throughout. Perhaps the most pissed off I’ve heard Clouds Taste Satanic been yet and that’s saying something to describe these guys. The down-tempo and gloomy riffs have a slightly depressing and darkened edge to them but that’s what makes this album so good. Clouds Taste Satanic are not afraid to venture into the darkest depths of DOOM METAL that you don’t hear from similar Instrumental Doom Metal bands.

Evil Eye is one of the best albums that Cloud Tastes Satanic have released to date. You would think after 5 albums the band would start to lose their hunger for creating new sounds. NOPE. Evil Eye feels like Clouds Taste Satanic are only getting started and the Doom/Stoner Metal audience is theirs for the taking.

The production is superb and allows Cloud Tastes Satanic music to be frighteningly too real at times. Overall, Clouds Taste Satanic have created a FUCKING MONSTER with this album.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review

What period of the year could be better to release the new colossal fatigue of Clouds Taste Satanic if not Halloween?

The Brooklyn-based quartet came back with a new stunning album, The Glitter Of Infinite Hell, which is probably their best release so far, recorded and mixed by Ben Rice of Degraw Sound in Brooklyn NY and mastered by Alan Douches of West West Side Music. Giving a listen to this album (and also to the past productions) I'm really trying to figure out how it is possible that the band formed by Steve Scavuzzo, Sean Bay, Greg Acampora, and Brian Bauhs is one of the most underrated doom secrets in recent years.

The Glitter Of Infinite Hell offers to the listener a personal vision of doom, where dark and Lovecraftian atmospheres open to more psychedelic ones and then fall back into monolithic riffs and guitar solos, in a hypnotic cycle that hardly leaves indifferent. With their new release, Clouds Taste Satanic managed to compose the perfect soundtrack for a psychedelic journey into hell. 4 tracks for a total of over 70 minutes of music with no compromises and no drop in songwriting.

The album starts with the opener Greed, a 18 minutes song full of slow/drone atmosphere that closely remind me the very last Earth, where guitars slide into psychedelic realms, until fading into the distance. In Treachery, another 18 minutes track, the slow rise of the bass is suddenly achieved by the guitar riffing, in a crescendo that opens to more acid sounds, then close to atmospheric, almost ethereal moments. Violence (the third track, only 17:48 minutes!) seems the perfect continuation of the previous songs, as Wrath, the last song, is the perfect closure of this majestic sound track. More than in the past releases, the landmarks of reference, the various Sleep, Black Sabbath, Flaming Lips and Earth are more rarefied, offering a more mature and personal sound.

With The Glitter Of Infinite Hell, Clouds Taste Satanic return to the dawn of their productions, with a even more devastating sound, but clean and massive at the same time, and with songs characterized by an important timing, almost prog, maybe difficult to assimilate for first listening to those who are not familiar wit long, instrumental suites. This album must be tasted over time, listened to and played back. Probably, few will succeed in appreciating the many shades at first listening, but once you get in, I assure that you will be swallowed up in a journey that you will hardly forget and that, every time you listen, it will always look new.

There is no trick or treat here, gentlemen. Clouds Taste Satanic have created the perfect soundtrack for our best nightmares.
