US Psychedelic Rock Trio DEAD MEADOW to release "Foundlings" rarities album on July 31st via Heavy Psych Sounds Records

Washington D.C. psychedelic rock luminaries Dead Meadow have teamed up with Heavy Psych Sounds Records for the exclusive release of "Foundlings" — a 7-track collection that digs deep into the band's archives, spanning over two decades of sessions, tributes and unreleased gems — on July 31st, 2026.

Known for their hypnotic blend of heavy riffage, dreamy atmospherics, and mesmerising grooves, Dead Meadow have been delivering their organic, masterful and utterly transportive sonic recipe for nearly thirty years now. The Foundlings rarities collection promises to illuminate the band's evolution, featuring previously unheard material that showcases their unique ability to channel classic influences — from Sabbath-inspired heaviness to shimmering The Cure-like textures — through their own hazy lens, while also serving as a tribute to bassist and founding member Steve Kille, who passed away two years ago after a long battle against cancer.

Featuring the core lineup of guitarist and vocalist Jason Simon and late bassist Steve Kille, with drum duties split between Mark Laughlin and Stephen McCarty, Foundlings compiles material recorded between 2002 and 2024. Highlights include a rendition of Powell St. John's "Kingdom of Heaven" (from the Sonic Cathedral sessions), a take on The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows" (from The Nothing They Need sessions), and a version of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter" originally cut for a Cleopatra Records tribute, alongside originals drawn from the Voyager to Voyager album recording sessions, a EarthQuaker Devices session, and a Committee to Keep Music Evil session recorded with Anton Newcombe and Rob Campanella (The Brian Jonestown Massacre).

Foundlings is poised to be essential listening for both long-time devotees and new converts. It arrives as the band continues to cement a legacy defined by fearless exploration.

DEAD MEADOW "Foundlings" - Out July 31st on Heavy Psych Sounds (LP/CD/digital)

1. Lost To Light
2. Nobody Home
3. Kingdom Of Heaven (Powell St. John cover)
4. Tomorrow Never Knows (The Beatles cover)

Bio

Formed in the fall of 1998, DEAD MEADOW emerged from the Washington, D.C. indie/punk scene to fuse their love of early ’70s hard rock and ’60s psychedelics into a unique marriage of dreamy guitar-fuzz bliss and stoney riffs. Over the course of seven studio albums, three live records and a Peel Session, they incorporated darker eastern influences and increasingly dense and hypnotic layering as they toured such far-reaching places as Russia and Australia and performed at renowned festivals including Roadburn and Levitation fest. They’ve become an inarguable pillar of the modern heavy psych movement alongside contemporaries like Black Mountain, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and the Black Angels.

DEAD MEADOW on "Foundlings"

Jason Simon - guitar, vocals, organ
Steve Kille - bass
Mark Laughlin - drums (tracks 1, 2, 4, 5, 7)
Stephen McCarty - drums (tracks 3, 5) and organ (track 5)

With their ninth full-length "The Head & The Habit", Swedish heavy rockers GREENLEAF have reached the pinnacle of a long evolution. The musical handwriting and well-honed mastery of guitarist Tommi Holappa, who has been a pioneer and pillar of the European stoner rock scene for more than 25 years, shines clearly through. This is perfectly complemented by the soulfulness, intuitive sense of melody, and depth of character that the vocals of classically-trained singer Arvid Hällagård bring to the sound of GREENLEAF.

Apart from world-class vocal lines and massive riffs with electric fuzz-power, GREENLEAF have put extra thought into the themes of "The Head & The Habit", which lift its lyrics far above much of the often cliché-ridden genre. As the album title implies, the new songs resemble symbolic short stories that revolve around emotional struggles and even mental illness. Written by the vocalist, the lyrics reflect real life experience as Hällagård works with people who suffer from problems with drug abuse and psychological health.

Heavy rock afficionados GREENLEAF were initially formed as an informal project by friends that were already playing in other bands including such notable names as DOZER, LOWRIDER, and DEMON CLEANER. The Swedes simply wanted an outlet for their mutual love of '70s-era hard rock and proto-metal while being free from the expectations and pressures of their main bands.

Despite intentions to keep GREENLEAF purely for pleasure, the undiluted joy of creating catchy songs led to everyone demanding for that material to be recorded. This eventually resulted in the release of a self-titled debut EP in 2000, which was quickly followed by first full-length "Revolution Rock" only a year later.

With guitarist and founder Tommi Holappa firmly at the helm, the sound of GREENLEAF remained remarkably consistent throughout the years and releases that followed, even through a variety of personnel changes.

Inspired by growing popularity and the success of "Secret Alphabets" (2003) and "Agents of Ahriman" (2007), they began to shift gears in 2010, moving from "the side project that refused to die" toward something closer to a band with the release of fourth album, 2012's "Nest of Vipers".

Having turned from an on and off fling to a full-time love affair, the years of rotating line-ups ended and GREENLEAF's newfound focus and stability was crowned by their fifth album "Trails & Passes" (2014), which featured new permanent vocalist Arvid Hällagård. This milestone also marked the beginning of a new phase of the band.

Their next two full-lengths, 2016's "Rise Above the Meadow" and 2018's "Hear the Rivers", won the band prime performing slots on European festival stages, while "Echoes from a Mass" (2021) reached the global streaming and European album charts – reflecting the quartet's ever-growing popularity.

Weaving together psychedelia, hard rock, and metallic blues in a warm, serpentine mélange that leaves behind none of the punishing immediacy of their earlier recordings, today's GREENLEAF merge road-tested tightness, swirling guitar-driven soundscapes, and captivating blues-laden vocals into one of the most reliably mesmerizing acts pushing the sonic horizons of desert rock to new frontiers.

With "The Head & The Habit", GREENLEAF combine an awareness of past triumphs with mature craftsmanship, showcasing their confidence in how to rock stronger, harder, and more to the point than ever before. The Swedes melt thunderous riff-magic, enrapturing and soul-heavy vocals, frenetic rhythms and driving attacks into a ear-catching, sparkling alloy of hard rocking anthems!

Line-up

Arvid Hällagård – vocals
Tommi Holappa – guitars
Sebastian Olsson – drums
Hans Fröhlich – bass

Exclusive Song/Video Premiere For CHILD's Stunning New Single I TRIED From Upcoming New Album REBIRTH

REBIRTH is the brand new album of the Australian hard rock band CHILD

With the release of their fourth full-length album, Rebirth, CHILD marks a definitive shift in their creative trajectory.

Moving beyond their established sound, the band showcases a refined focus on songwriting—stripping back the noise to reveal the heart of their message.

The record serves as an unfiltered dialogue with the self, confronting the obstacles that block our evolution and demanding the strength to overcome them. It is a gritty, honest document of survival and the messy beauty of becoming who you are meant to be.

Dedicated to David Paul of Orpheus Pickups and The Guitar Hospital. We don't know what we would have done without you. R.I.P

We're excited to premiere the stunning new track I TRIED from their forthcoming new album thanks to the amazing folks over at Purple Sage PR and Heavy Psych Sounds.

The Lowdown

Combine the heavy emotion of the blues, the tone and raw power of hard rock, the finesse of soul and a twist of 60’s psychedelia. It will give you a visceral musical experience that plays directly to your being. That is CHILD. Living for their art, the pubs, the booze, the endless highways and the blues is what makes this band who they are. Child are a must see for those who are worshippers at “the electric church”. The freedom and power of a live performance is important to CHILD in their approach to music, endeavouring to never perform the same way twice. They look forward to once again bringing this to the world on their continued search for sonic paradise.

Since the release of their runaway self-titled debut in 2014, Child have continued to develop their unique brand of heavy blues through constant writing and extensive national/international touring. The band released the follow-up ‘Blueside’ in December 2016, which builds on this foundation to deliver a disc of pure sonic expression whilst following in the long tradition of the blues. 2018 saw the release of Child’s first EP, simply titled ‘I’. Recorded live to tape, ‘I’ is a glimpse into the boundless directions that could be taken on upcoming releases.

Now the band will release a brand new album via Heavy Psych Sounds Records in June 2026.

Organic Green Monster Machine - The Swords Of Sorrow (EP Review)

Release Date: May 25th 2026. Record Label: Self Released. Formats: DD

The Swords Of Sorrow - Tracklisting

1.The Raven Prince 06:06

2.Blade 06:21

3.The Highway Song 08:45

Review

Heavy Psych/Stoner Rockers Organic Green Monster Machine (OGMM) return with their new EP The Swords Of Sorrow which sees the band explore their journey further into SONIC experimentation which they’ve already proven with their earlier records. This EP perhaps has a more direct roots driven energy which allows OGMM to move within a heavier and progressive atmosphere. OGMM borrows sounds from other musical acts such as Soundgarden, KYUSS, FU MANCHU, Black Sabbath and King Buffalo but with a free flowing Space Rock flow that allows them to have their own great take within the Heavy Psychedelic scene.

OGMM have stated that opening track The Raven Prince “serves as the continuation of the story first introduced in the earlier release “Dark Kings Curse from 2023” So you may need to head back to that release if you want to understand the whole creative theme of the story. Though, you can easily enjoy this as a standalone piece with OGMM delivering a finely played slice of modern day Heavy Psych that blends Blues, Americana and Stoner Rock into a winning fusion of subtle melodies. The song is constantly heavy whilst not being overly aggressive that allows OGMM to build up a steady rhythm of epic cinematic soundscapes.

Second track Blade is a more laid back song with a solitary Psychedelic instrumental passage being the standout aspect of the track. The vocals are superbly delivered but it did take me a few listens to fully warm up to them. The song does move between areas of Post-Rock, Blues Rock, Post-Grunge and lush sounding Psych Rock instrumental passages. There’s a hint of Ambient Rock developing behind the scenes and the deliberately slow paced nature of the track is perhaps what make this my favourite track on the whole EP.

Third track The Highway Song feels like a combination of the previous tracks with OGMM combining semi-acoustic soundscapes within the first half of the record before branching out into heavier Psych Stoner Rock passages. OGMM are once again cautiously slow bringing the heavier elements into play but once everything is fully aligned then the EP is finally cooking with the heaviest and aggressive sounds on the EP.

There’s a lot of wicked SONIC interplay being used on this track OGMM which I cannot fault the band for. However, the track never reaches the heavy levels of Psychedelic Stoner Rock I expect from the band and that’s my only minor criticism for that is otherwise an excellent record throughout.

OGMM are slowly carving out a reputation of being one of Australia’s most unique and original Heavy Psychedelic Stoner Rock bands currently out there. I’m excited to hear what they’ll be releasing next as I am a fan of their music and what they bring to the table.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review

Desert/Stoner Rockers KROKA debut album is a masterful collection of songs that has a gritty underground attitude contained within the majority of the tracks. The band are influenced by the likes of QOTSA, KYUSS, FU MANCHU and 1000 MODS. Helping them on this creative journey is a good friend of the blog with Jason Taylor (The Obsessed) who produces this record. Jason allows the band to inject their own  into the mix with a slight Alt Rock attitude appearing and a winning turbo-charged delivery developing throughout the whole record.

KROKA demonstrates a subtle Hard Rock attitude that allows some other cool sounding influences to appear within their music very early on tracks such as Sasquatch, You Never Know and Mothman. With KROKA being from Canada, there’s some Canadian themes, motifs and folklore being heard on the album but there’s still a global Stoner Rock element being included along the way. Just enjoy the ride with KROKA conjuring a ton of great musical melodies which feel quite razor sharp especially with how the music plays out within the heavier Psychedelic passages that surround the listener the best of times.

The vocals are catchy and flirt between Post-Stoner and Alt Rock delivery which is down to the great work from both Richard Fenna and Beau Ferguson working superbly well together. They never try to out do each other and fully support each other especially on the more melodic and emotionally engaging aspects of the album.

KROKA even find the time to move over into the heavier areas of the Doom and Sludge Rock scenes that gives their music a more unpredictable quality on tracks such as: Mothman, Roses, Have You Lost Your Mind?, The Experiencer and Wendingo. These tracks allow KROKA to add a progressive style of Fuzz, Desert Rock and Stoner Rock soundscapes where you can hear the 1000Mods influence fully breaking through.

Believe It is a splendid debut that allows KROKA to perform a classic style of Desert Rock/Stoner Rock that has some epic sounding METAL grooves and spicy lyrics to match that will leave you fully satisfied from start to finish.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review

World Collapse is the debut EP from Cosmic Stoner Metallers Mars Collision who bring a slightly different Psychedelic vibe into their music especially with the vocals. The music itself is full of the usual Cosmic surroundings you would expect from a record that focuses upon the Spaced Out areas of Psychedelic Stoner Metal. There’s an edgy Fuzz Rock element that soon drifts into classic Hard Rock and Heavy Metal which can be quite over the top but one that fully sells Mars Collision musical vision with pure conviction.

The record does have some great areas of Doom Metal, Space Rock and Psych Rock that taps into the musical eras of the last fifty years with a passionate Stoner Metal dedication that leaves you quite impressed with the multitude of different musical genres Mars Collision employs on this record alone. The band do takes cures from the likes of KYUSS, MOTORHEAD, BLACK SABBATH, MONSTER MAGNET and FU MANCHU with the band developing a NO HOLDS BARRED approach when they fully settle on that dominant Eighties Heavy Metal sound that appears from the very the start.

There’s also some classic Punk Rock sounds that gives the band a snarling attitude which is perhaps inspired by Saint Vitus and The Obsessed when Mars Collision fully venture into the classic Doom/Stoner Metal of music on tracks such as World Collapse, The Second Strike, Enemies and Unless Earth 45° 55°.

The production values of the EP are quite good though a little bit raw and underdeveloped at times but this allows the record to have a distinctive “CLASSIC UNDERGROUND” quality which makes the record that slightly more unpredictable.

World Collapse is full of twisted fuzzed up instrumental solos which can be quite seedy when the band fully transition into their HEAVY METAL personas whilst keeping the mood full of COSMIC ROCK aggression. The EP is very much in your face with Mars Collision playing a pissed off style of Psychedelic Stoner Metal that’s undeniably fun and downright catchy. These guys are the real deal especially if you dig your music that’s happy to be part of the underground HEAVY METAL scene.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review

Hedonistic Hard Rock is the debut album from BONG VOYAGE, a supergroup of sorts made up of members from the likes of Håndgemeng, Suncraft, and Buskas. The end result is a devilishly twisted collection of tracks fused by the legendary sounds of the Seventies Hard Rock and Heavy Metal scene. The band add a certain WEEDIAN and STONER METAL energy into the part for a record that’s inspired by the likes of KISS, BLACK SABBATH, THIN LIZZY, QUEEN, KVELERTAK, THE OBSESSED and even ELTON JOHN.

Yeah, I know that sounds like a crazy concoction but here we are with BONG VOYAGE raiding their parents vinyl collection and giving it a thrilling SATANIC ROCK makeover where the key elements are to ENTERTAIN and PARTY ON throughout the whole album. The album still manages to find the time to touch upon areas of Melodic Hard Rock, NWOBHM, Punk Rock and Psych Rock where you can’t help but fall in love with.

Take the superb opening track Saturday Rite Special which sees BONG VOYAGE channel KISS, KVELERTAK and ELTON JOHN for a song that has a real SATANIC attitude but with a loving embrace to the Seventies Hard Rock lifestyle whilst keeping with the Doomed Out and Stoner Rock melodies that the band lovingly build their music upon. The spiky lyrics and turbo charged vocals just add a real party going atmosphere which makes this one of the albums main strengths that carries through tracks such as Large And In Charge, UFOria and One Hundred Million Billion Beers.

I would advise to look at lyrics rather closely where BONG VOYAGE live upto the “HEDONISTIC” element of the album’s name with some mature lyrics being written and sung against the party-going classic rock melodies. The sound is always warm-hearted and quite engaging but look further beyond this aspect and you’re treated to a more demonic and sadistic energy which sees the record become more HEAVY METAL obsessive.

There is still tons of GROWN UP fun to be had with the edgy lyrics that the band have written here. The never-ending waves and levels of Psych Rock attitude move BONG VOYAGE closer to the modern mainstream with some epic instrumental soundscapes developing against the classic hard rock delivery that should keep THIN LIZZY fans happy for a long time to come.

Another standout part of the album is how BONG VOYAGE have captured the tone and energy of the Seventies and Eighties Heavy Metal scene where “EXCESS” was a big thing of the actual scene. The band apply this twisted energy into their music with spectacular results which is downright hilarious throughout on other tracks such as One Hundred Million Billion Beers, Escape Prison Planet Earth, Outer Space Free Base and Wizard Of Ozlo being my favourite tracks on the album. There’s a lot of clever wordplay spliced throughout the album which makes this record quite deep and meaningful when you least expect it.

The subtle shift to Post-Stoner based structures is perhaps the creative glue that holds everything together within the later stages of the record that perhaps comes more from Håndgemeng the most for me. Though, as a whole, BONG VOYAGE are a great band in their own right where you can see why the great Ripple Music signed them to their always amazing roster.

Hedonistic Hard Rock is one of the most highly unapologetic and brilliantly entertaining debut albums I’ve heard in such a long time that I instantly fell in love with the album on the very first listen. The album is packed full of great songs, great melodies, brilliant musical solos and a whole lot of heart even if BONG VOYAGE are doing the work of SATAN himself.

This is a rip-roaring success on every level which will leave you with a huge smile on your face from beginning to end. Yeah, I love this album a lot.

Introduce Yourselves: McMurdo Sound Agreement

What Is the Name of Your Band?

We are McMurdo Sound Agreement

What Is the genre of music you play?

We play hard rock/ stoner metal. Inspired by the stoner metal scene of the early 00s, we take the influences of band like Clutch, Fu Manchu and Unida and use them to forge our own identity. We love blending super heavy riffs with cool melodies and weird chord progressions.

Can you give a brief history of the band of how it came together and where it is today?

Sean (Guitar) and Lindsey (Drums) have been playing together in bands across the Northeast of England since 2010. The idea with McMurdo was that we wanted to really focus on creating concept albums with a cool overarching narrative, which we tell through the lyrics and artwork. We gig around the region but we’re predominately a studio-based outfit and we’ve just released our first album Second Spine.

What can people expect from your music?

We wanted to create a sound that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Small Stone records compilation from the 2000s, and I think we succeeded. Super heavy fuzziness balanced with strong melody and massive choruses.

What is the best release that folks should check out from your band?

Our new album Second Spine came out a couple of weeks ago, and we’re super proud of it. We self-produced and released this, it really has been a labour of love.

Doom/Heavy/Stoner Metallers PATRIARCHS IN BLACK Release New Song "LEFT BEHIND"

Doom/Heavy/Stoner Metallers PATRIARCHS IN BLACK (Patriarchsinblack) return with their powerful new single “Left Behind”, a dark and deeply reflective track exploring loss, acceptance, and the fragile nature of human existence. Blending personal tragedy with mystical and cosmic imagery, the song reminds us that life is finite - and that what truly matters is the legacy we leave behind.

Singer Daniel Soren explains that the lyrics reflect on real-life hardships and the balance of entropy, growth, and evolution that defines both the universe and human life. “Left Behind” urges listeners not to waste the time they have, but to create meaning while they are still alive.

Watch the official video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlHY4NpA0IQ

The track features a powerhouse line-up:

Johnny Kelly (TYPE O NEGATIVE) – drums
Dan Lorenzo (HADES/NON-FICTION) – guitar & bass
Daniel Soren – guest vocals

Side note: A brand-new PATRIARCHS IN BLACK covers album, “Completely Covered In Black”, is scheduled for release on February 13, 2026.

Completely Covered in Black features 11 cuts, as well as a vinyl bonus track of a Patriarchs in Black original song titled, "Show Them Your Power."  The CD features 2 bonus cuts including a stunning version of “Kashmir” (Led Zeppelin) and a Patriarchs in Black original titled "Dead and Dying."

Perhaps the best way to understand the point of this album is to read the words of guitarist Dan Lorenzo himself:

"Johnny and I both love recording cover songs. If you haven’t noticed we REALLY love Kiss. As I write this, it’s only been a week since the death of Ace Frehley. Like a lot of musicians my age, I started playing guitar because of Kiss. On New Year’s Eve, 1978, I had yet to pick up a guitar. My friends and I wanted to play “air guitar” to Kiss Alive! I immediately said, “I want to be Ace.” My other three friends said that was OK for the first song, but we should “switch out” after each song. “No. My house, my rules! I’m going to be Ace for EVERY song.”

Three months later and I started playing guitar. It would have been nice if SOMEBODY told me Kiss tuned to Eb! Anyway, I then got into Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, AC/DC, and then Judas Priest, Slayer etc. It was Johnny’s idea to do the Peter Gabriel track. A bunch of people flipped over our version of “Games”...maybe thanks to Mark Sunshine’s ridiculous vocal performance..." -Dan Lorenzo, October 23, 2025
