Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metallers TROY THE BAND Release New Song/New Video For FAUNA From Their Upcoming Debut Album CATACLYSM

Sludge/Doom/Stoner Metallers Troy The Band release their highly anticipated debut album Cataclysm this Friday and it's already starting to make waves for the and within the underground scene.

You can read my review here

I'm happy to premiere the new video for the single FAUNA from Cataclysm which you can watch below:

Troy The Band say this about the song and video below:

"Fauna is the last song on Cataclysm and one of the last songs we wrote for the album. It's one of the more diverse tracks on the album combining Craig's unusual vocal cadence, some big grooves, tempo changes, as well as some mind bending guitar work from Sean Burn. Lyrically it deals with animal cruelty and right wing conspiracy theorists.

For the video Craig pitched the idea of running and singing the song, which worked well with our limited time and even more limited budget. We ended up driving out to an industrial estate in East London on a particularly gloomy day. Sean D sat in the back of Sean B's car, pointed the camera at Craig and let him chase us while the track played a few times through. Then we came up with the idea of having the character from The Void make an appearance as part of a nightmarish alternate reality, or bad acid trip, and spliced it all together thanks to the editorial work of our friend Ollie who is also responsible for editing The Void
."

Thanks to Infecting Cells PR for all of the details.

Cataclysm will be available to buy now on DD/Vinyl via Bonebag Records from Friday 2nd February 2024.

Review

Cataclysm is the debut album from UK Psych/Doom/Stoner Metallers Troy The Band who impressed me with their 2022 release The Blissful Unknown where the band showcased their wicked blend of Doomgaze merged with Progressive Doom Metal textures with a subtle Psychedelic Rock sound.

Troy The Band changed their style ever so much for this release by employing a heavier Psychedelic Sludge sound with a distorted FUZZ based energy. Channelling bands such as Mars Red Sky, King Buffalo and Elephant Tree but with perhaps a heavier DOOM based appetite which allows the Doomgaze or Shoegaze element of their music to be the heaviest part of their music.

Opening track Cataclysm is fueled by dark surrounding sonic passages with Craig’s vocals having a more grounded and threatening presence compared to their debut EP. The song remains gloomy throughout with Troy The Band playing a great style of Trippy Psych jams and the heavier Sludgy grooves that’s dominated by a Post-Doom/Stoner Metal atmosphere which becomes more central to the bands creative ideas on later stages of the album.

Second song Flesh Wound is a more Progressive based song where the song is populated by distinctive extended instrumental movements which have that slight level of heaviness that moves the album to AMPLIFIER DISTORTION territory. The song has a bittersweet and melodic tone despite this track perhaps having the heaviest grooves on the whole album. There's moments of TORCHE's classic style of DOOM-POP laced within this song with some fantastic instrumental work by Sean Burn (Guitar), Sean Durbin (Bass) and Daniel England (Drums) creating a whirlwind of aggressive noise with pure headbanging riffs that allows Troy The Band to feel like they're delivering a Greatest Hits album instead of their debut release. Craig delivers another wonderfully spirited performance which can be tender one moment and outrageously aggressive the next.

Third song The Void opens with a subtle paranoid AMBIENT sound with the sludgy distorted guitars moving against a Post-Rock flow. The song even allows Troy The Band to inject a realistic Alt Rock movement into the album. The song is quite easy going with the superb Psychedelic parts soon changing into heavy levels of Doomed Out Stoner Metal. Troy The Band start to experiment with their sound by including a subtle Drone based energy without compromising their gloomy Doom-Pop vision. The later stages of the track allows the band to change their sound yet again for a thrilling conclusion of distorted and down-tuned energy.

The second half of the album continues with the twisted style of FUZZED UP Doom Metal with catchy Stoner Metal grooves being played with a more DEMONIC purpose especially on tracks Only Violence and Fauna. The sound of the whole album is vibrant, clear, crisp and allows the band to sound quite threatening when the time calls for this which becomes more commonplace on the second half of the album. Wayne Adams recorded, mixed and mastered the album and he delivers the goods yet again.

Troy The Band pay homage to the mighty BLACK SABBATH and SLEEP on this album with the tracks Only Violence and I.H.O.D. being perfect examples of this. The instrumental sounds are down-tuned to near perfection with a free-flowing Heavy Psychedelic attitude leading the listener into a powerful trance.

Cataclysm has everything you could possibly want or need from a debut album such as this. The record has powerfully seductive grooves from start to finish which leaves you wanting to hear more. Troy The Band could be headed for an exciting journey and building within the Doom/Stoner Metal underground scene that may lead them to playing some of the biggest stages within the scene sooner rather than later.

Cataclysm will be considered one of 2024's definitive Doom/Stoner Metal albums to be released and an early shout out as a potential Album Of The Year contender.

Simply unmissable. End Of.

Sludge/Stoner Metallers TROY THE BAND Release Visualiser/Lyric Video for FLESH WOUND From Upcoming New Album CATACLYSM

Cataclysm, the debut full-length album from London-based Doom-gaze four-piece Troy The Band, will be released on Sweden's Bonebag Records on February 2nd 2024. Since the release of their debut EP, The Blissful Unknown, Troy The Band have become mainstays in the London heavy music scene, with a list of accolades in 2023 that includes appearances at Desertfest London, Masters of the Riff, and Stoomfest, as well as a craft beer collaboration with East London's Old Street Brewery.

With Cataclysm the band have taken the most unique elements of their debut EP and forged them into an album that blends elements of Stoner-Doom, Post Rock, Shoegaze and Heavy Psych. Cataclysm is dark, heavy, and identifiably their own.

For this album the band went back to work with Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse studio in East London. From the band's point of view, this was a no-brainer: "We knew we wanted to work with Wayne again on this album. He's great to work with and he had an important hand in shaping the sound of our EP. We knew he would get what we were trying to do with this album, and we really couldn't be happier with how it has turned out."

Each track is built from a sturdy foundation of Sean Durbin's bass riffs which are then overlaid with Sean Burn's distinctive guitar playing and Craig Newman's unique and ethereal vocal style, adding layers of harmonic complexity and tension that is a defining feature of their sound.

The album title is derived from the name the band gave the initial demo of the title track, driven by its musically jarring feel rather than its lyrical content. It was then self-consciously adopted as the album title to reflect their aim of causing a musical upheaval in the heavy music scene. We believe it will.

We are quite excited to premiere the new visualiser/lyric video for FLESH WOUND which is also my favourite track from the upcoming album Cataclysm due out on February 2nd 2024.

The band say the following about the song:

"This is the first song we wrote together after recording our EP and it has been a staple of our live set since our earliest shows.

The first time we played Flesh Wound live it was the second to last song in our set. So when we announced that the next song would be our last and someone in the crowd yelled out “just play more of that riff again!” We knew we were on to a winner.

We love it because it captures our sound so well, from the dynamics of vocals and instrumentation to the tension and release in the arrangement. When the song reaches its climax, there is a feeling of catharsis both lyrically and musically."

Cataclysm will be available to buy from Bonebag Records from February 2nd 2024.

Thanks to Keith at Infecting Cells PR for all of the details.

Bonebag Records Announce The Signing Of Sludge/Stoner Rockers TROY THE BAND

Cavern Deep's Bonebag Records signs its first artist. Troy The Band is a London-based four piece boasting a distinctive sonic identity that seamlessly weaves together elements of Stoner-doom, post rock, heavy psych, and shoegaze.

Beginning with their first live shows in early 2022, TTB have established themselves as a mainstay of the UK heavy music scene. In April 2022 they self-released their debut EP, The Blissful Unknown, to critical acclaim. One review dubbed it "a surreal release that captivates from start to finish" and hailed it as "one of the most compelling debut releases to emerge from the UK Doom/Stoner Metal scene in recent memory."

Bolstered by the resonance of their EP, Troy The Band maintained a regular gigging schedule, sharing stages with heavyweights such as King Buffalo, Unida, and Hippie Death Cult during their 2022 UK tours.

In Spring 2023 the band re-entered the studio with Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse Studios in London to record their debut full-length album.

Continuing their forward momentum as a band, throughout 2023 they have played festivals within their genre, including Desertfest London, Masters of the Riff II, and Stoomfest.

In August 2023 Troy The Band signed a record deal with Sweden's Bonebag Records who will release their full length debut in December 2023

Quote from Bonebag Records:

"After hearing Troy The Band for the first time when they promoted their EP, which captivated us with its unique sound, we were absolutely delighted when they submitted their debut album to our label. Troy The Band excels at blending a distinctive sound with classic doom riffs, which our label is thrilled to support. With such an impressive lineup of songs on their forthcoming album, we firmly believe they are poised to take the Heavy Underground by storm."

Review:

Polish Doom/Stoner Metallers Weird Tales release their seedy and gloomy new offering Second Coming, Second Crucifixion. An album that takes a more rebellious and edgier approach with their classic blend of Doom/Stoner Metal. The lyrics are quite full-on in places and feel like they’ve been doused in Psychedelic Acid overtones. The sludgy guitars move between classic grooves of Black Sabbath, Electric Wizard and KYUSS but with Weird Tales being perhaps playing a more surreal Acid Rock style.

Opening song Disgusting & Mean has the harsh sounds of the Doom/Stoner Metal underground but with a vastly understated Garage Rock attitude which soon morphs into heavier areas of Psychedelic debauchery and seedy guitars working superbly well with Dima’s Proto-Doom or Proto-Punk based vocals. A strong start to this effortlessly and superbly entertaining album.

Second song Dead People’s Shit carries on with the down-tuned Sabbathian sound with perhaps a unique sounding Noise Rock element appearing. The vocals seem more accustomed to a Post-Punk track than a Doom Metal song. However, the lyrics and warped cinematic grooves allows Weird Tales to remain part of the Doom Metal fraternity with a song that oozes chaotic menace when the more Psychedelic parts of the album appear. The song does allow Weird Tales the opportunity to play a non-stop style of sludgy extended guitar jams which have a classic Stoner theme towards the later stages of the track.

Third song Undertaker opens with a gloomy Speed Punk riff that allows Weird Tales to play a more stripped back style of music. The lyrics have a gloomy, rebellious and menacing creative style which draws the band closer into the Noise Rock and Post-Punk circles yet again but still remain essential Doom Metal quality to their music. Weird Tales are natural born storytellers on this album and this track ultimately proves this with sublime lyrics allowing this track to be one of the bleakest tracks on the album. The instrumental work becomes more daring with its violent and bombastic sound allowing the rhythm section to really stand out.

Fourth song Krokodil Blues is a straight forward Doom/Stoner Metal number with that classic Punk-Rock attitude allowing the band to draw upon artists such as Alice Cooper and Church Of Misery. The song has echoes of Classic Hard Rock and screeching guitars which still sees Weird Tales still retain a small sense of Punk Rock and Noise Rock realism despite the DOOM & GLOOM theatrics of the whole album.

The final two tracks Damned Lovers Of The Swampfire and Acid Lobotomy is where Weird Tales venture into Prog Rock debauchery with the band playing a warped style of Acid Rock, Stoner Metal and what is perhaps is best described as LUCID FREE FLOWING DOOM Metal. The guitars have a more satanic quality to them especially on Damned Lovers Of The Swampfire. This is the bleakest, intense, heaviest, aggressive and most OUT THERE part of the album with Weird Tales becoming more comfortable with the demented and maddening style of first rate music they play here.

Second Coming, Second Crucifixion is quite a surreal and nightmarish album where Weird Tales also offer an album where the “RIFF IS KING” and this album has a high amount of sublime riffs, grooves and extended jams which prove why the Polish Doom/Stoner Metal underground scene is so highly thought of. The album may have a raw sounding Garage Rock and Punk Rock attitude but the production values are exquisite that allows this album to be beautifully violent and loud throughout.

Weird Tales have done themselves proud with this release. As Second Coming, Second Crucifixion deserves all the major praise and plaudits hopefully coming their way. This is an absolute joy to listen to.

Psychedelic Doom Act Weird Tales Unleash New Single - "Krokodil Blues" From Upcoming New Album "Second Coming, Second Crucifixion"

The final single is about drugs, and specifically - opiates. As Lemmy once said: "Heroin must be wonderful, cause lots of my friends died for it". Can you imagine having your arm and leg rotting and falling off, and the only thing you can think of is another dose of the poison that's responsible for it?

Listen to Lemmy kids - don't touch that shit! Do speed instead!

Listen!

We are the ones who use
Dazed and confused
Purgatory of living fast
All the things you know are already past
And it's hard to explain
And you have to obey
When the drug talks to you
It leaves no choice I’m warning you

Listen!

Flesh rotten down to the bone
Cut it off or you’ll be gone
Vein is running away
Another shot - another day
And it's hard to explain
And you have to obey
When the drug talks to you
It leaves no choice I’m warning you

Psychedelic Doom Act Weird Tales reveal artwork for upcoming album - "Second Coming, Second Crucifixion"

Like a stab between the eyes, Polish Warsaw trio WEIRD TALES will deliver their outrageous new full length album on September 1st via Interstellar Smoke Records.

"Second Coming, Second Crucifixion" consists of six new tracks - 40 minute riff based dance music for psychopaths.

On their most extraverted work to date, WEIRD TALES are manifesting disappointment in humanity, friendship and love. Hatred from the deepest abyss of the heart is mixed up with the creepshow stories about schizos, drug addicts and slaughter.

Starting as a stoner doom band, they incorporated proto-punk, psychedelic and noise to their music and amplified it with narcotic psychosis. Now they put it to your face straight from hell!

Harsh guitars, rapid, vigorous drums and dirty bass will fall on your head like a storm. Filled with dark psychedelic vocals and filthy lyrics it brings sardonic fun to all fans of heavy music, who are disappointed with life.

WEIRD TALES bio:

Doom power trio from Warsaw, formed in 2015. The Band consists of Dima (guitar, lead vocal), Kriss (bass, back vocal) and Smoku (drums, back vocals).

WEIRD TALES is riff worship driven by narcotic psychosis. Sick compositions and grooves stitching together riff stabs, tectonic-shifting rhythms, hypnotic melodic verses, hazy, acid-soaked interludes and psychoactive guitar soloing that eventually congeal into a Sabbath-worshiping hoe-down.

The band have released 1 Full-Length album and 3 EP’s, with the most recent - “Y'all Motherfuckers Forgot 'Bout Good Ol' Son of a Bitchin' Blues“ and live-in-studio record “Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die“ having been released in 2021.

WEIRD TALES is known for varied music presented on each release and raw, cenergetic live performances. If anyone could capture a bad trip, that would be it.

New full length album “Second Coming, Second Crucifixion” will be released 01.09.20223 via Interstellar Smoke Records.

WEIRD TALES shared stages with such well known acts like Church of Misery, Bongzilla, Belzebong, Dopelord and Spaceslug and performed at festivals Electric Meadow, Gruzilla and Low Gravity.

The band tours frequently over Poland and Europe and played in Germany, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia

Review

Patience Vol 1 is the debut album from Doom/Stoner Metal duo Owls & Eagles and it’s a vast Psychedelic affair with elements of Transcendent Metal reminiscent of YOB and OM in places. Throw in heavy and spaced out grooves that draws upon bands such as UFOMAMMUT, Mastodon, SLEEP and Black Sabbath then you have a record that’s quite OUT THERE mostly down to the trippy lyrics and sublime soundbytes the band use for a more WEEDIAN creative narrative.

The vocals from both Mark and Ross are quite different from each other. One being more soulful and peaceful whilst the other is more aggressive which both give the band its Doom/Stoner Metal edge. The music is a mixture of Heavy Psych, Doom Metal and Prog Stoner Metal with a subtle raw atmospheric sound that allows the band to play a subtle style of AMPLIFIER FUZZED UP WORSHIP. There’s a lot of guitar reverb and feedback energy heard within the excellent opening track Enlightenment.

Enlightenment allows Owls & Eagles to establish their creative and storytelling narrative which sounds like a gloomier version of OM but with the punishing WEEDIAN grooves allowing the band to play their own blend of Meditative Doom. The song has a wonderfully daring attitude which carries on throughout the whole album.

Second song On My Way is a  trippy and droned out journey with the band taking a more Shamanic approach with their vocals. Psychedelic textures are broken down and split into more subtle Sludgy atmospherics with a down-tuned approach of the music becoming more gloomier with the intense lyrics the band have written for this track.

Third song New Expectations opts for a more Post-Doom/Post-Stoner journey with a Post-Rock sound with ethereal chants leading the way before Owls & Eagles return to their heavy DOOMED OUT ways. There’s a massive Jim Morrision influence with the vocals and creative storytelling for this track. This is an impressive mix of different styles of Doom/Stoner Metal that has a massive “world-building” flow to the track which is down to the Droned Out aspect of the track. The song has some of the best extended grooves on the album which leaves you on an almighty HIGH.

Fourth song Leave Me Be continues the same narrative as the previous song but the music is more darker and despairing. Owls & Eagles play heavier FUZZED up sounds where the volume has been AMPED up to ELEVEN. Perhaps the heaviest track on the album with the Hardcore Punk based vocals outlining the boisterous and aggressive lyrics the band have written for this track. The song effortlessly moves from a Punk Rock aesthetic to the transcendent style of Doom/Stoner Metal the band brilliantly use every step of the way for this album. The vocals are perhaps my favourite part of this track. As they bring the “LIGHT vs DARK” aspect to the album with first-rate storytelling which I didn’t expect at all.

The final three tracks Paralysis, Rebirth and Awakening is my favourite part of the album as Owls & Eagles become more daring with their ideas especially when they adopt a more Progressive style of music which gives the album a more dangerous feeling. More Ambient and Spaced Out themes are used for a bleaker style of music especially on Paralysis and Rebirth.

The final track Awakening offers brief glimpses of hope but the music always remains grounded in reality despite the wild lyrics that accompanies the whole creative journey of the track.

Patience Vol 1 is an absolute first rate album full of outlandish ideas that could only come from the Doom/Stoner Metal scene. Helped along by stunning production values, Owls & Eagles have struck gold with this release. The album features some of the best songwriting I’ve heard on a debut album in quite some time.

Don’t delay. Add this album to your record collection now. This is an awesome album. End Of.

Review

Ukrainian Doom/Stoner Metallers Risin Sabotage new album MACABRE is an album created and forged by the events of the last few years. Written during COVID-19 lockdown and mastered within the horrible events of the ongoing war within the country, the happy-go-lucky Doomstes of their earlier albums are a thing of the past. With Risin Sabotage focusing upon real life events and experiences, MACABRE has a different gloomy feeling than I anticipated.

Sure, the music is classic Doom/Stoner Metal with Risin Sabotage playing some mighty fine grooves along the way. However, the tone and message of the album matches upto the album title of MACABRE. The FUZZY beats are freaky and seedy with that classic SABBATHIAN approach heard within the excellent opening tracks of Abundance, Serpent and Silence Queen. The sounds have a fresh DIY approach which oozes 1970’s Doom Rock with that heavy FUZZ surround style of music that gives Risin Sabotage a vital creative presence throughout.

Shades of Black Sabbath and Saint Vitus reign supreme with a sludgy intricate and highly melodic style weaving it into the mix early on within the album, perhaps most notable on Serpent and Silence Queen. The band always allow themselves the opportunity to experiment with their sound by adding GUITAR REVERB and AMPLIFIER FEEDBACK effects which can become quite deafening in places though that’s a highlight if you’re looking for an album purely for HEADBANGING purposes.

The later stages of the album does see Risin Sabotage offer more darker sonic and fuzzed out passages with echoes of freaky Blues Rock and seedy Psychedelic extended jams with songs such as Circus, Mentor Hum, Macabre and Earth being the best examples where Risin Sabotage bring first class DOOMED OUT aggression to the underground masses.

MACABRE is the type of album I always hoped Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats would make. As Risin Sabotage have that similar type of vibe and sound. However, they have the creative vision to explore darker areas of Doomed Out Stoner Rock which is packed full of FUZZ ROCK goodness. The grooves are bleak and eerily delightful with Risin Sabotage bringing a cool and real life menacing perspective to the underground Doom/Stoner Metal scene.

This is a highly impressive release which will have listeners entertained for a long time to come.

Cavern Deep Premiere New Song/Video For A WORLD BEREAVED From Upcoming Album PART II - BREACH

A World Bereaved is the second single of Cavern Deep's upcoming album "Part II - Breach" releasing the 14th of July.

It is the 3rd song on the concept album and its synopsis is as follows:

"No more memories of its earlier existence than glitching, flickering images. Like waking up from distant clouded nightmares. Skin is thin, sore, still growing as it lumbers through desolate landscapes. No signs of life to be seen. The ground is torn by sickly pulsating spirals, shooting up in the thick clouds above. Passing former displays of architectural grandeur; now caved in like hollow skulls. A sense of purpose is shaping inside as it finds its paths through the wasteland."
