Review

Argonauta Records presents another KICK-ASS Italian Doom/Stoner Metal Band by the name of DIRECTO who are influenced by bands such as Black Sabbath, Kyuss and Fu Manchu. These guys play a heavier and darker style of Doom/Stoner Metal that I’ve heard recently. Their debut album Al Infierno is quite a groovy affair that has the right amount of weird and trippy sounds to standout from the crowd.

The songs are quite intense in places and that allows DIRECTO to play a heavier style of music especially on the opening few songs – Enter The Darkness Gate, Electric Phoenix and Immortal King. You can tell by the lyrics and vocals that DIRECTO at least strive to play a more doomier and scarier sound compared to other Doom/Stoner Metal bands that have appeared lately.

The vocals from Zio Iggy are handled superbly well and he’s backed up by some epic doomed out riffs that his bandmates supply with deft precision. Maybe the album is too DOOM METAL based for the casual Stoner Metal fan. However DIRECTO still have a weird and trippy Stoner Metal sound lurking in the background.

The album may take a few listens to fully appreciate and to understand. As the songs can be quite weird and wonderfully surreal to experience first time round. However DIRECTO will keep you entertained with their wild and extremely heavy different ideas throughout the album.

The production is excellent whilst still offering a raw and honest sound. Al Infierno maybe influenced by 90s Doom/Stoner Metal the most. However you will be able to hear some top-notch 70s/80s classic Heavy Metal and Hard Rock influences on certain parts of the album.

Overall, Al Infierno is a great album to listen to that has the right amount of Doom/Stoner Metal attitude to make it worth your time.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.
