Nehoda release new Live Video for DEVIL'S BITCH

Take a stroll through rock n’ roll. Marvel at its origins and where we’ve reached, during a span of several decades. Nehoda is certainly well aware of the path traveled. After originally playing solo, band founder Patrick Nehoda finally found his voice after meeting drummer Jeremy Gill and bassist Grayson Papa. The band shows reverence to many genres, from grunge to Americana and blues, from good ol’ rock n’ roll to 90s alternative rock. Its title,But Anyways, may seem flippant, but there is heartfelt sincerity in the trio’s writing and playing.

Patrick Nehoda is a rocking chameleon -- his guitar playing shifts effortlessly from mean riffing on opener “I Don’t Know” and “Afterglow,” through the Doors-esque blues of “Devil’s Bitch,” the alt-rock catchiness perfected by Dinosaur Jr. on “Shakey Pop, to the tender melodies that form “Please Don’t Go.” The last of these tracks, which rounds out the record, recalls Radiohead’s classic “True Love Waits” in its simplicity yet devastating effect. Drummer Jeremy Gill and bassist Grayson Papa balance their respective roles perfectly. Gill knows when to let loose on his kit and when to leave it understated, while Papa lays down a solid foundation on which the melodies are constructed. Patrick had been playing as a solo artist for eight years before this band's current incarnation, but it wasn't until he teamed up with Gill and Papa that the music truly found its voice.

And indeed, master story teller Mr. Nehoda has some yarns to spin against this new musical backdrop. Whether Faustian pacts on the already-acclaimed “Devil’s Bitch,”questioning someone’s authenticity in the title track, or wistful nostalgia on “Walk Away” (a choice lyric: “The promises of our youth keep fading, like your favorite pair of boots they keep aging.”), there’s a line for everybody to connect with. His voice has the right amount of grit and soul, both out in full force on the emotive “Just Another Season,” as he wails “Why, why do I even try?” upon discovery of an unfaithful partner. A powerful song that no doubt sounds even more incredible on the stage -- and they’ve certainly been making their way around the US and UK/Europe already.

All in all, Nehoda provides the perfect soundtrack for many activities -- beer sipping, reminiscing, highway driving, and dancing among them. The album’s many parts are made into a well-crafted whole. But anyways, just listen to it.

Review

Dead Star is the new album from Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metallers DayGlo Mourning and continues their raucous blend of heavy groove and beer-fuelled sounds which whilst not exactly groundbreaking is still a welcome addition to the ever-growing bands playing action packed music such as this.

The album runs for around 35 minutes and DayGlo Mourning manage to find the time within each track to play an addictive style of Heavy Doom Rock with splashes of Psychedelic Rock with a lean and mean Space Rock attitude to match.

Opening song - Dead Star - is a great song to open the album with. As it gives the band the perfect opportunity to play their own style of aggressive Doom/Stoner Metal with a stripped back High On Fire style Sludgy atmosphere holding everything together. The instrumental work is excellent whilst the vocals offer a more “real” sound and that’s what I enjoyed most about this album. DayGlo Mourning keeps things mighty real despite the heavier Psychedelic and Spaced Out parts of the album giving them the creative freedom to run amok with the albums trippiest themes but the band keep everything “REAL”.

Second song - The Offering - is more slow-paced with mellow guitars and drums leading the way. The vocals have a distant effect to them which instantly draws you in but it’s the music keeping your attention with the promise of bigger and better things. The song explodes briefly with an aggressive outburst of flashy sludgy guitars but the band keep the mood at a slow pace before playing faster paced modern Doom riffs with a slightly claustrophobic edge.

Third song - Bloodghast - offers the longest and best track on the album. DayGlo Mourning continue their strong performance from the previous song and bring a more solidified modern gloomy Stoner Metal atmosphere but with a Progressive flair. The song is LOUD and DOOMS ON with heavy grooves being the best part of the album.

The 2nd half of the album sees DayGlo Mourning shine even brighter with more epic sounding guitars that bring the manic energy of High On Fire and Mastodon to the party but given a slightly modern Doom/Stoner Metal makeover. Ashwhore and Witche’s Ladder allows the band the perfect opportunity to play classic Doom/Stoner Metal riffs whilst bringing their own great ideas and themes to the party.

Dead Star is another excellent album from the band and offers 35 minutes of top-notch entertainment that provides everything you want from a thoroughly modern Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal album.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Review

Hypervolume is a band made of two highly talented individuals from Chicago who’ve been involved within the local scene for a very long time and have built a wealth of knowledge and experience between them. The band is made up of FABIAN A. on Drums and A. HUMAN on Guitars and Vocal Duties. Hypervolume play a unique style of music that blends Psychedelia, Noise, Punk, Thrash, Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal for a harsh and volatile sounding experience.

Their debut album Conceive is an interesting record with both it’s execution and delivery. As Hypervolume play outside the usual boundaries of Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal. One moment they’re playing HIGH ON FIRE style riffs and then opt for a more patient Post-Metal delivery akin to legendary Chicago natives - PELICAN.

The album only lasts 30 minutes but there’s so many different ideas and moods the band play on each of the 8 songs contained on the album.

Opening song - Fire - starts very slowly with heavy guitars and pounding drums building upto a more threatening style of Instrumental Rock/Metal but Hypervolume change direction when A. HUMAN appears with his bombastic and in your face vocals. The song becomes more of a violent riff-fest that reminds myself of early-era High On Fire. Though these guys have way bleaker themes contained in the lyrics. There is also a cool Psych Rock vibe lurking in the background.

Second song - Orbit - is more Thrash orientated with a Noise Rock/Stoner Metal atmosphere being thrown in just for the hell of it. FABIAN A. drums are poetic and quite frantic in equal measure with some top-notch guitars being laid down by A.HUMAN. Hypervolume add an intelligent switch or style of music towards the end when the aggressive energy is replaced by a more somber Space Rock influence and it shows you that the band aren’t afraid to change the whole sound of the album in one quick moment.

Third song - Before - opens with a slowly played Post-Doom/Stoner/Psych based melody which has more of an Ambient based delivery and shows a different side to Hypervolume. The instrumental work is superb yet again with the Post-Rock/Post-Metal vibes allowing this song to be one of the standout songs on the record.

Fourth song - Sun - is the longest song on the record clocking in at almost 6 minutes and Hypervolume throws everything at you with this song. Fast-paced Thrash grooves with a totally Punk Rock atmosphere allowing the band to move into any musical direction they see fit. The song doesn’t know what it wants to be and that is a good thing. As this is an exciting song that shows you what Hypervolume is all about.

The 2nd half of the album sees Hypervolume add more Eastern and Psychedelic influences to the mix with the album achieving the right balance of musical exploration and pulsating PISSED OFF grooves that have true “HEAD-BANGING” quality to them all.

Other great songs to check out are: Edge, Wicked and Sea.

The only downside to this album that it’s too damn short. Conceive is one of those albums where I wanted to hear and was quite sad to see it ended quite suddenly. However, what Hypervolume have included on the record is first-rate and one that will offer listeners something exciting and wholly original.

This is the type of album that should really be on RELAPSE RECORDS. I can easily see Hypervolume fitting in with that legendary label and their roster of Doom, Sludge and Stoner Metal bands. And if that’s your thing then be prepared for a stunning record.

TOXIC TITO Release New Video - GOT TO MOVE ON - From Their Upcoming Debut Album

NYC's TOXIC TITO will release their scorching debut album Bestia on August 21 2020.

About Toxic Tito:

Toxic Tito is a New York City psychedelic/punk/metal/grunge project coming for your head. The band says:"This album is a real punch in the gut, no fucking around here. Original, and full on "Balls to the walls"!! Rock Music has gone stale and moldy, pretentious and ass kissing. We don't do that."

They seek to exorcise the demons from the human race, sell a shitload of albums, and get on a Scorsese movie. This is a band of consummate professionals sharing an anarchistic ‘devil may care’ attitude. There are no expectations, only the desire to document what was once a good boy.

The bands story starts in 1977 when the Italian-Venezuelan Luis Accorsi formed his first band, Janz Kappela, who were perhaps the first punk band in Venezuela. From there life took him to New York City where he launched a career as an art dealer and played countless shows at the legendary CBGB’s with bands like Manslaughter and Cracked Latin. He had become a fixture of the scene. In 2014 The Flux Machine – was formed, bringing Accorsi back to the heart of New York City’s thriving rock and roll scene. A few years later he would launch a brand new project, Toxic Tito which sought to take on the world of metal.

Looking forward, Toxic Tito are preparing to release a new album, entitled Bestia It’s a vicious and ambitious record building off of the insanity of quarantine. Drawing on everything from ancient problems to the joy of summers arrival it is a bloodthirsty offering from the band. Accorsi’s massive catalogue comes to life with the group as they move forward in crafting some of the most interesting heavy metal to emerge from New York in years. If you want to get slammed into a punk infused rager... Have we got the band for you!

Review

SAIL were last featured on the blog back in 2017 when I reviewed their critically acclaimed album Slumbersong. The band did release an excellent EP Starve last year which I never found the time to feature. Though, time to correct that with the release of SAIL’s superb new EP – Mannequin. This EP features 3 versions of the same song but with a very cool twist.

As you have the original version of Mannequin and two different covers that sound quite different to the original version. SAIL play music in the same vein as Torche, Red Fang and Mastodon but perhaps slightly more melodic and way psychedelic in places. The song has quite a gloomy feel which wasn’t as prominent as their previous album as it sounds here. The vocals are quite moody and atmospheric in places and feel more aligned to 90s Alternative Rock than Sludge/Stoner Metal. Though, it’s a great fit and allows SAIL to breathe new creative life into their overall sound.

The two other versions of Mannequin includes a Synthwave Remix and Director’s Cut and these are equally as good as the original version.

The Synthwave version is basically just that. An Electronic based version of the song which has it’s own unique charms and sounds that shouldn’t really work but this is some epic trippy stuff here. Especially with the 80s influence leading the way. The guitars are nowhere to be heard here. As the title suggests, it’s purely Synths and if you ever wondered what a modern Sludge/Stoner Metal band would sound like as an 80s Synthwave band then this is the best possible answer.

The Director’s Cut is the best version on the EP. As it’s on almost twice as long as the original version and the song is more progressive and takes a lot more creative risks. This version is more complex and heavier in all of the right places.

If this is the new direction that SAIL will be heading with future releases then I’m fully on board with this wonderfully original and bold style of music. Overall, Mannequin offers 3 different styles of music for SAIL to impress listeners with and offers a wonderfully heavy sonic experience helped along by fantastic production.

VOLCANOVA Premiere New Song - I'M OFF - From Their Forthcoming New Album - RADICAL WAVES

In an alternate reality where Kyuss was born in the barren, volcanic landscape of Iceland, emerges the unholy trio Volcanova. With members hailing from three corners of this unique island of lava fields, glaciers, and hot springs, Volcanova comes together to erupt a fresh take on desert rock.

Building on this style, the band pays homage to the crushing doom of Black Sabbath as well as progressive sludge in the vein of modern bands like Mastodon and Gojira. But wait, there's more! Volcanova can turn seamlessly to thunderous fuzzy riffs in the style of Fu Manchu or somber moments akin to YOB -- all coupled with an irreverent live show that's straight out of a Red Fang video. There is never a dull moment with Volcanova.

Volcanova was founded in the summer of 2014 with principle song writer SamĂșel Ásgeirsson on guitar and vocals. After a few lineup changes, the band finally settled on a winning formula with Þorsteinn Árnason of (Rock Paper Sisters) on bass and vocals and Dagur Atlason (Churchhouse Creepers) on drums and vocals.

The trio has an infectious groove and togetherness that's bolstered by an ability to pull off three-part vocal harmonies, keeping audiences rocking and rolling. Uplifting moments with epic guitar solos are underpinned by headbanging bass grooves and complemented with a tasteful use of cowbell -- because who doesn't have that fever?

Having extensively toured their own country, playing Eistnaflug Festival and high profile support slots with Elder, Brain Police, SĂłlstafir, and the Vintage Caravan, the band has now set sights on trips abroad. Recently, they've converted the people of Scotland to their rock n roll cause on two different outings. Whether they're in packed Glasgow venues, remote highlands pubs, or on the barren volcanic island they call home, Volcanova wins over audiences wherever they play.

Due out August 21st, 2020 via The Sign Records, Volcanova's debut album Radical Waves will surely propel the band to new heights.

"I'm Off" is the second single leading up to our album "Radical Waves". A song full of uplifting moments with epic guitar solos, underpinned by head banging bass grooves! I'm Off is all about the fun and tells the story of how to keep the party going because for obvious reasons, life shouldn't be boring, it's a party.

Review

Radical Waves is the debut album Desert/Stoner Rockers Volcanova who hail from Iceland. These cool Icelandic Rockers formed in 2014 and it’s quite hard to believe they’re just releasing their debut album now. As their debut album is packed full of many different sounds with Volcanova playing genres such as Prog Rock, Psych Rock, Sludge Rock and even Space Rock within their normal style of Desert Rock/Stoner Metal.

As debut albums go, this will be one of the best debut records of 2020. As the band take many different creative risks and choices on this record which ultimately pay-off for a more well rounded experience which is top-heavy with spectacular riffs. The band seem to take influence from bands such as Kyuss, QOTSA, Truckfighters and even Mastodon on this album.

The opening two songs Welcome and Where’s The Time showcase the band playing a fast-paced and addictive style of Desert Rock/Stoner Metal with the band adding a subtle Psychedelic groove to keep things that slightly different. The vocals from SamĂșel are your standard style of Desert/Stoner Rock vocals with that allow him to add a lot more variety on the later stages of the album.

Things go into overdrive with the stunning 3rd track – Super Duper Van – with Volcanova moving slightly towards a more classier style of Prog Rock with some fantastic lyrics and vocals allowing Super Duper Van showing at first hand the band’s true talent at writing action packed songs with thrilling lyrics and melodies to match.

Fourth Song – I’m Off – is where the band start adding a more heavier Sludge Rock sound that works superbly well against the Desert Rock textures featured in the opening songs. This song has a more “Post-Doom” or “Post-Rock” approach that settles down to a more heavier vibe. The band are seasoned road-warriors with the band constantly touring over the last few years and you can tell they’ve picked up a few tricks along the way touring with The Vintage Caravan and ELDER. This song does have those band’s DNA on this song but this still remains Volcanova’s show and you can’t help be instantly drawn into their hazy Psychedelic world.

Fifth song – Stoneman Snowman – is my favourite song on the entire album with Volcanova playing a brilliantly clever style of Grunge, Psych, Desert Rock, Sludge Rock and Stoner Metal with a haunting Progressive mood holding everything together. The vocals are great but it’s the music and lyrics that are the best part of the song. There is killer riffs and a blistering sing-along chorus that you can’t help not but SHOUT along to.

Volcanova are in fine confident form leading into the 2nd half of the album and dare I say that the 2nd part is even better than the first half. The band do play some of the heaviest and most expressive riffs on the album especially on the final two songs of Got Game and Lights.

I didn’t know what expect with Radical Waves before I listened to it but Volcanova have released a wonderful album that will no doubt make some actual waves within the Desert/Sludge/Stoner Rock scenes with it’s wide range of different ideas held on the album.

You would be absolutely insane to miss this album when it’s released in August 2020. This will be classed as one of the best Stoner Rock/Metal debut albums of 2020. Need I say more….

Review

State Of Mind is the new album from Brass Owl and their overall sound is quite an eclectic mix of different styles such as Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Stoner Rock, Grunge, Blues Rock along with Heavy Metal and Proto Metal sounds. They’ve been described as Heavy Classic Rock crossed with Acid Jazz according to the PR blurb that accompanied this release and I wouldn’t be lying that got me intrigued to see how this album played out.

State Of Mind is the perfect description for this album as it takes you along a trippy Psychedelic Blues/Hard Rock journey and you will have different states of mind listening to this album. Imagine the Blues Rock swagger of CLUTCH and ZZ TOP then merged with some heavy stylized 70s/80s Classic Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and you have a potent mix for a hugely entertaining album.

It’s by no means perfect but Brass Owl adapt a different identity and sound with nearly all of the songs of the album. The album is primarily powered by the band’s love of Blues Rock and the album goes into many different directions especially when the Psychedelic Jazz vibes of the album appear whilst still retaining a free-flowing and highly original heavy sound of their own making.

Standout songs on the album are: Land Shark, Deuce Face, No Filter – Stay Trendy, Side Effect and Pale Horse. As the band show their true creative power on these songs with excellent vocals and hard-hitting riffs that have a rebellious spirit to them all.

The instrumental work on this album shown by both Brian and Lonnie is outstanding throughout especially with the duo playing many different styles of music that you get a complete picture of what truly fantastic musicians they really are.

The production is very cool indeed though the more surreal Psychedelic Acid based parts do feel out of place at times but that could be the whole idea with that part of the album. Other than that minor complaint, Brass Owl are firing on all cylinders with their debut album and it’s one worth definitely checking out if you’re looking for a Stoner Rock album with a bit more craziness to it all.

Excellent and Highly Recommended.

Song Premiere Fomr DICTATOR SHIP With EAT THE POOR

Album Art: Afshin Piran

Sweden's Dictator Ship is excited to announce news of their upcoming debut album Your Favorites, which will be released by The Sign Records this April. It's an immediate outburst in raw and primitive rock n roll, with lush harmonized vocals inspired by 1960s soul bands. Combined with an impossibly intense rhythm section, Dictator Ship is the prime and natural energy source that the world has been searching for.

Your Favorites was recorded in a small cabin in VĂ€rmland, Sweden, engineered by band member John Sijbren Leonard. He comments: “I am pleased with the lo-fi sound and the honesty of this album. It sounds like us, and that's the hardest thing in recording, to capture your own sound.” The band mic'ed and pre-mixed all the drums through an old PA-mixing console from the '70s. Then they summed the drums up to two stereo channels, so only two drum channels were recorded. This was done to save on channels, mostly because they only had eight channels available for the whole recording. The instruments were recorded live with vocals added later on.

The reason for this unique approach was that John wanted to focus on the band's live sound rather than studio enhancements. What listeners hear on Your Favorites is what they'd hear from Dictator Ship at a small Swedish pub -- or perhaps one day, a big-city stadium.

Review

Metaphora is the new album from Italian Progressive Sludge/Doom Rockers – Void Of Sleep. These guys impressed me way back in 2013 when they released their debut album – Tales Between Reality And Madness. The band played a heavy stylized and progressive mix of Doom, Psych, Sludge and Stoner Metal with a twinge of classic hard rock grooves. Their 2015 album – New World Order – whilst a good album didn’t match the creative or dynamic flair of it’s predecessor. As the band went for a much darker theme for their 2nd album.

So what can we expect on their 3rd album. Well the band have struck the right balance of the psychedelic sounds of the 1st album with the more darker and progressive themes of their last album. Metaphora is a more well-rounded experience with the band seeming more relaxed on this album. Metaphora is still a heavy album with aggressive and punishing bursts of LOUD HEAVY ROCK sounds and Post-Doom elements reminding myself of Neurosis and YOB in many places.

The sludgy undercurrent of the album is what allows Void Of Sleep to play most of the albums standout moments but the band never forget show their mellower side with simple strands of Post-Rock appearing here and there.

The album has a dreamlike quality in certain stages of the album especially on songs such as The Famine Years, Iron Tooth and Waves Of Discomfort. Though the band do like to add a more nightmarish “DOOM” vibe to the album when the heavy and bleak sounds appear.

Metaphora is best treated as a singular album broken down into individual chapters with each song telling the next chapter in a highly complex and intriguing story. The music is always constantly moving forward with Burdo’s vocals laying down the context and narrative for the whole album.

Though if you’re here for just the music then Void Of Sleep have a wide array of different styles of Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal music to impress you with on this album. The album does have it’s fair share of Ambient noises as well which takes the album into more darker avenues.

My favourite part of the album has to be the 3rd and 4th listed songs on the album – Waves Of Discomfort and Unfair Judgements. As these two songs bring out the best in Void Of Sleep with the lushly played Psychedelic Post Rock sounds of Waves Of Discomfort which move into more cinematic based territory on Unfair Judgements that left me wanting more.

The production on Metaphora is absolutely flawless with the band never sounding as good as this. The whole album sounds wonderful from start to finish and allows Void Of Sleep to play some of the best and heaviest sounds and grooves of their career.

Metaphora sees Void Of Sleep capture the early promise first seen on their debut album and unleash a challenging and exciting album that you would be foolish to ignore. This is a first rate album and potentially end up as one of my favourite albums of 2020.

An Interview With VOID OF SLEEP

Italian Psych Sludge/Doom/Stoner Collective - Void Of Sleep - first impressed myself back in 2013 with their debut album - Tales Between Reality And Madness - with it's mix of Stoner Metal, Doom Metal, Sludge Metal and it's clever use of Psych Rock and Classic Hard Rock.

Their 2015 offering - New World Order - was a bleaker affair but still managed to impress me with Void Of Sleep trademark Doom/Sludge Metal grooves.

Fast forward 5 years later are back with a new line-up for their upcoming new album - Metaphora.

It's been a long time since I last interviewed the band. I thought this would be good chance to talk with Void Of Sleep to discuss their formation, the evolution of their music and what to expect from their upcoming new album.

I caught up with Gale (Guitars/Chorus) and Burdo (Vocals/Guitars) from Void Of Sleep

Read on for more info....

Hi guys. Thanks for doing this interview. It’s been a long time since we last spoken. Good to have you guys back. How are things with you today.

Gale: Hi Steve! You’re right, it's been a long time since we last spoke, it took as a long time because we couldn't find the right people for the new line-up. It was worth the wait though because now we are very happy with the new line-up, the new material and how Metaphora came out.

Burdo: Hi and thank you, we’re glad to have this opportunity to talk to you. We are all doing very well actually, lots of things on the go: first of all, the new album Metaphora which will come out March 27th and the release show the same day, we’ve also planned a video for one of the new songs, taking care of the promotional side along with our label Aural Music and in the meantime we’re obviously rehearsing the new and the old songs that we’re thinking of including in the live shows.

For people not in the know, Can you give a brief history of how the band came together.

Gale: We formed in the spring of 2010, in 2011 we recorded our first demo, in 2012 the first full-length, Tales Between Reality and Madness which was released for Aural Music in January 2013, in 2014 while we were on tour with Nero di Marte all our gear was robbed so, to recover some money we made a 7 inch split with them.

In 2015 our second album New World Order was released, also for Aural Music. We played a hundred concerts between 2012 and 2017, mainly in Italy but also two European mini Tours. In 2017 Paso, our bass player, left the band, so we were practically on hiatus until 2019 when Andrea and Momo joined the band.

In 2019 we worked hard on writing, arranging and recording Metaphora, with many ideas that we Burdo, Allo and I had developed, but with the fundamental contribution of the new arrivals.

Did you all know each other before joining Void Of Sleep.

Gale: Andrea and I have been playing together since 99, first in Conspiracy A.D. until 2008, then since 2010 with Void of Sleep. We met Burdo at one of our first concerts in '99, so I would say that the 3 of us have known each other for quite some time. We met Andrea, the new bassist, around 2007 when he came to see Conspiracy at our rehearsal-room.

Our relationship was consolidated since we played together with Nero di Marte (Andrea plays also and still in N.d.M.), he also replaced Paso in a Festival in 2016, so he was the first person we thought of when we were looking for a new bass player but actually he joined the band only in January 2019. We met Momo in 2017, when we played together with Postvorta (his other band).

We are here to talk about your excellent new album – Metaphora. What can people expect from this album.

Burdo: To be honest, I really don’t know how the people will feel about it, but I can say that we are really proud with Metaphora. It’s an album of extremes; extremely melancholic but extremely brutal when the song merits it. There are some very good riffs and time signatures in it, but we also took a lot of care of the arrangements and harmonies, most of the songs are quite long, proggy and sludgy, but we’ve also explored several new atmospheres and solutions here! I actually think that’s our most eclectic album to date!

My own feelings is that the album feels more in tone with your 2013 debut album Tales Between Reality And Madness which I loved. Plus it has elements of your 2015 album – New World Order. Is that a fair assumption to make.

Burdo: Well, that’s a fair assumption. To me this record is quite different from the others for several reasons: the synths and keyboards which we didn’t have in our previous albums, our former bass player and producer Paso is no longer in the band, so our approach has changed, Andrea and Mohammed joined the band etc etc...but in some way I agree with you, because I think Metaphora comes more from the riffs than its predecessor New World Order and more in the way of Tales Between Reality and Madness.

Gale: I don't think Metaphora sounds more like TBRAM than NWO, I think Metaphora is the natural evolution of our sound, which is a very eclectic album, both musically and vocally, the reasons have just been explained very well by Burdo.

What is Metaphora about. As it’s quite trippy and surreal in places.

Burdo: The lyrical concept for the album is basically about the contradictions of our so called evolved society, the rekindled fear and hatred, social relations and civility in crisis, apathy and marginalization, I just laid down the lyrics trying to explain how I feel about it, and I think that everyone can find his own metaphor by reading the lyrics.

Did you do anything differently when recording this album compared to your previous albums.

Gale: As we’ve mentioned earlier, our previous bass player was also our producer and the owner of Studio 73, where we recorded our first two albums. Metaphora is the first album recorded in another studio, with another producer, so clearly, the connection was different, then I think the sound is different too, but that is also influenced by the normal path of a band.

We are very satisfied with the work done at Domination Studio by Simone Bertozzi and Simone Mularoni, the sound is fantastic and it is exactly what we were looking for.

Burdo: Oh yes, we came through a lot of changes this time, new studio, new lineup and an additional instrument which we never had in the previous recordings, it was a bit tricky and challenging but to me it was also the best studio experience to date.

This time we teamed up with the guys in Domination Studio and the things flowed really well and spontaneously.

What influenced you all when recording this album. As it has a lot of different ideas and themes running throughout the album.

Burdo: We just tried to turn all our feelings in music as I already said. We started composing this album after a forced break because we were without a bass player, the “skeletons” of 4 of the seven songs in the album were written and composed as a trio, we came through anger and frustrations and I think this influenced the music as much as the lyrics.

What comes first when writing new music. Music or Lyrics.

Gale: We always write the music first, then Burdo write the lyrics and maybe we can change something to fit the vocals well.

Aural Music are releasing the new album like they have done with your previous albums. It’s quite rare for an underground band like yourselves to stay with the same label for so long. Most bands switch labels quite often. Why have you stayed with the label for so long.

Gale: Aural is a great label, Emiliano is an amazing person, professional and honest. He has been running the label since ‘99 and has always done a great job, discovering important bands and always managing to stand out as a quality label. He has always believed in us supporting us from the beginning, I don;'t see any reason.

Have you had offers from any other labels who wanted to sign you.

Gale: Some labels have shown interest in our work but none have made us real concrete proposals. It also has to be said, that we have not looked for other labels because as I said in the previous question, we are satisfied with Aural’s work.

Will you be touring heavily or doing frequent gigs to promote the new album.

Gale: Our desire would be to play as much as possible but unfortunately it’s difficult, there are commitments with our day jobs, commitments with other bands and the venues situation that has worsened a lot in recent years, at least here in Italy.

However, we have a release show in our hometown on the 27th of March (the day that the album is released) and another 3/4 concerts in April, here in Italy that we will reveal soon and we’re working to add some other gigs for this summer/spring. We are also starting to think about a European tour this autumn.

Before you go, do you have anything to say to your fans currently out there

Gale: Nothing in particular, I would just like to tell those who listen to our music to give it some time. These days it's all disposable and we don';t give the time necessary for the music to be assimilated, ours is very layered music, with many nuances, I would like those who approach it to do it with patience and concentration. Also I hope that those who appreciate it will buy the albums and come to concerts to support us.

Thanks for doing this interview. All the best with your new album. It’s a stunning album.

Gale: Thanks a lot Steve, you’ve always been a big fan of VoS and we really appreciate your passion. Take care.
